Bondarev stalls in the middle of the track. Seven drivers manage to avoid him but he is finally rammed by Sankka Dahlstrom, who couldn’t avoid him. Both drivers are medically treated. The race stops, Oleksandr’s life stops.

That 2nd May was the beginning of an unqualifiable story of overcoming the odds. It was unthinkable that after 10 operations and two months in hospital, Bondarev would so soon return to the asphalt and be as successful as he had been before the accident.

A year later, Oleksandr entered the FIA karting competition organised for the first time at the Steel Ring circuit in Trinec (Czech Republic).

The Czech organisers spared no effort to welcome the participants, attendees and officials of the second round of the FIA European Karting Championship – OK & Junior and the first round of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy, in the presence of FIA Karting President Akbar Ebrahim and Vice-President John Ryan.

The 1223-metre Steel Ring track, with its winding and hilly layout, offered challenges to the drivers and technicians, especially amidst changing conditions.

Oleksandr Bondarev (UKR-KR/IAME/Vega) proved unbeatable in the Junior category. Considered the favourite at the start of the final, he lived up to his status by leading from start to finish despite Lewis Wherrell’s challenge in the closing laps. Less than two tenths separated them at the finish line. Zac Drummond took third place ahead of Thibaut Ramaekers. Dries van Langendonck completed the top five ahead of an up-and-coming rider, Jack Iliffe.

Kit Belosky also moved up 10 places to finish 11th ahead of Andy Consani, who moved up 13 places.

Ramaekers and Bondarev moved up seven places in the FIA International Karting Ranking (IKR) to second and third respectively in all categories. Bondarev retained his top position in OK-Junior, while Wherrell moved up three places to second.

All in all, Oleksandr Bondarev’s story of achievement should serve as an example, not only to athletes, but to anyone. The challenge was enormous, but he has never lost the will to keep fighting to recover. After two intense months of hard work, he managed not only to return to competition in record time, but also to return to the top of the podium. Now, there is no doubt that he will continue to fight for his dreams on the track, competing again and enjoying karting.

The German Kart Championship traveled to Ampfing on the Schweppermannring for its half-time event. An international field of participants dueled on the race track in beaming sunshine in Southern Germany. In the end, there were five different winners.

The conditions for the third racing weekend of the German Kart Championship couldn’t have been better. The sun shone from the sky on all three racing days and made the finals on Sunday especially challenging for man and machine. The focus was on winning the half-time Championship: Maxim Rehm (DKM), Jens Treur (DJKM), Jorrit Pex (DSKM) and Ben Dörr (DSKC) secured this unofficial title.

The races were balanced. There were narrow fights for positions in all classes up until the end. There were three double winners in the end: Jens Treur (DJKM), Jorrit Pex (DSKM) and Matteo Spirgel (DSKC). Only in the DKM, Maxim Rehm and Luca Griggs shared the victories.

Maxim Rehm (Rehm Racing) dominated qualifying and the heats with a strong performance. The Baden-Wuerttemberg resident therefore gained pole position for the first final race. Things weren’t easy for him then though. Kiano Blum (TB Racing Team) caught up with him towards the middle of the race and put a lot of pressure on Rehm, who kept his nerves and won narrowly in front of the Austrian.

Juliano Holzem (Dörr Motorsport) came in third, followed by Lenny Ried (Lanari Racing Team), Kevin Lantinga (Falcon Racing Team) and reigning Champion Niels Troeger (SRP Racing Team).

Reigning vice Champion Luca Griggs (Falcon Racing Team) caused a surprise in the second final race, starting from eleventh place with four new tires. Due to an impressive pace, he raced through the field and took the lead in the middle of the race. He then achieved an advance of about six seconds until crossing the finish line and thereby celebrated his first victory of the season.

Rehm still won the half-time Championship. He fought a narrow fight for second place with Blum, but in the end the German prevailed while Blum fell back behind Lantinga to fourth place during the last bend. Holzem completed the top five.

DJKM: Double victory and half-time title for Jens Treur

Dane Tobias Bille Clausen (Shamick Europe) drove the best time at qualifying of the juniors and also won one heat. Jens Treur (Falcon Racing Team) gained pole position after the heats though: With a victory and a second place he had the least penalty points in the evening and led the field into the first final race. The Dutchman also set the pace here and couldn’t even be deterred by strong Tom Kalender (TB Racing Team) towards the end.

Behind the two leading drivers, there was a thrilling fight during the last few laps. At first, only Maxens Verbrugge (TB Racing Team) and Clausen fought for third place, but Simon Rechenmacher (TB Racing Team) and Portuguese Rodrigo Seabra (Lanari Racing Team) came close too. The four drivers fought until the finish line. In the end, Verbrugge came in third in front of Rechenmacher and Sabrea. The latter received a spoiler penalty though and fell back to ninth place behind Clausen. New fifth winner was Luca Schwab (TB Racing Team).

Kick-off winner Treur also couldn’t be stopped during the second race. With a confident performance, he drove towards a double victory and thereby further strengthened his Championship lead.

There was no change on second position as well: Kalender stayed in the winner’s wind shadow, but never got a chance to attack. Regarding the further positions, there was a group of six divers who fought for the remaining cup ranks. At first it looked like Schwab was going to prevail, but he lost all chances due to a technical flag. Rechenmacher took his place followed by Clausen and Verbrugge.

DKSM: Jorrit Pex celebrates impressive double victory

Overall leader Jorrit Pex (SP Motorsport) already made it clear on Saturday that he wanted to achieve his first victory of the season this weekend. He led the field at qualifying and the heats and gained the maximum amount of points. He tied in with this performance in the first final race. At first, he lost the start to Tim Troeger (SRP Racing Team), but the Dutchman drove past Troeger again soon and celebrated his first victory of the season.

The places behind the winner were taken quickly too. Troeger led the field of pursuers in front of Guust Specken (CRG Holland), David Trefilov (SRP Racing Team) and Daniel Stell (Haak Motorsport).

The second final race was truly exciting then: Troeger won the start again and Pex countered shortly after. Until the middle of the race it looked like an easy race for the seven-time Champion. But the competition with new tires came close and tried everything to drive past him. The routine driver showed his entire skill set and defended his lead until the finish line. Valentino Fritsch (BirelART Racing KSW), Stell, Kris Haanen (SP Motorsport) and Alexander Schmitz (BirelART Racing KSW) followed in his wind shadow. The two latter drivers showed impressive catching-up races from 13^th and 14^th starting positions. Double winner Pex was in the best mood in the subsequent interview: “We already knew before the start that it was going to be a tough race with four old tires. I tried to drive off a bit, but my opponents were very fast. I had to keep my rhythm then to win.”

Following the many twists and turns that animated the qualifying phases of the third round of the FIA Karting European Championship – OK and Junior, surprises were expected in the two Finals. The result turned out to be more conservative than expected with the undisputed victory of Italy’s Andrea Kimi Antonelli in OK and the almost winning comeback of Britain’s Freddie Slater in Junior two thousandths behind his compatriot Harley Keeble.

The final qualifying heats on Sunday morning had set the tone in the persistent but not overwhelming heat of Sarno. Many non-serious incidents had punctuated the hard-fought races without upsetting the hierarchy. Several contenders for the title had recovered their competitiveness after a slightly slower start. The stage was set for the long-awaited final act at the foot of Vesuvius. The MG Tyres fulfilled their role with great efficiency until the end despite the temperatures often exceeding 30°.

Keeble wins in Junior by two thousandths

On Sunday lunchtime, the FIA Karting European Championship – Junior qualifying heats were led by Anatoly Khavalkin (RUS – Parolin/TM Racing/MG) ahead of James Egozi (ITA – Tony Kart/Vortex/MG) and Matheus Ferreira (BRA – KR/IAME/MG).

Khavalkin kept the lead at the start of the Final, but Alex Powell (JAM – KR/IAME/MG) took over from him on the fifth lap before Ferreira took the lead for good. However, the race was far from over as Freddie Slater (GBR – Kosmic/Vortex/MG) came back from 12th position on the grid like a cannonball. At the halfway point, Slater was nearly seven tenths off the leader and was closing in on Keeble. Slater achieved his goal and took control of the feature on lap 14. Keeble followed the pace at less than three tenths and stayed on the hunt until the end. As Slater began to savour the victory as he approached the finish line, Keeble took advantage of the opportunity to overtake him in the final metres and win the race by two thousandths of a second for the Tony Kart Racing Team. Ferreira accompanied them on the podium, while Khavalkin had to settle for fourth place. Yevan David (LKA – Exprit/TM Racing/MG) was the first Sri Lankan driver to finish in a European top five, ahead of Powell and Egozi.

Slater had nevertheless recovered well and remained at the top of the provisional Championship standings ahead of Ferreira. Powell moved up to third ahead of Keeble, while Ashkay Bohra (SGP – KR/IAME/MG) in 27th dropped to 7th and Kirill Kutskov (RUS – KR/IAME/MG) to 8th after retiring.

Second consecutive victory for Antonelli

Slightly disappointed with his result at the first round in Genk, Andrea Kimi Antonelli (ITA – KR/IAME/MG) has been making up for it in the FIA Karting European Championship – OK since then. He started by adding a very conclusive victory to his score in the last Qualifying Heat, which allowed him to follow the two drivers in the spotlight this weekend, Nikola Tsolov (BGR – KR/IAME/MG) and Artem Severiukhin (RUS – Tony Kart/Vortex/MG).

After an unconvincing weekend that ended with a retirement, Rafael Camara (BRA – KR/IAME/MG) lost the lead in the provisional standings to Antonelli ahead of Lindblad. Tsolov moved up to fourth ahead of Severiukhin.

Cui, 13, is the third karter to join the Mercedes F1 family after Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Alex Powell, while Paul Aron and Fredrik Vesti are the juniors competing in single-seater competitions, in their quest to reach the pinnacle in time to come.

The latest signing hails from Xi’an in China, who started karting at the age of six. He started racing professionally in 2014 and in 2016, he ended up second in Chinese Rotax series. From then on, Cui moved out from China to expand his racing.

In the various championships, he has raced across the 2018 and 2019 seasons, he has podium finishes in Italian National events, WSK Open Cup, WSK Final Cup, the ROK Cup Superfinal and WSK Euro Series in the 60 Mini and Mini ROK classes.

Moving onto 2020, he finished second in the 31° Andrea Margutti Trophy in OK Junior, and secured victories and podiums in the WSK Champions Cup in 60 Mini and had podiums in the WSK Super Master Series in 60 Mini.

For 2021, Cui is competing in the OK Junior class with Kart Republic (Argenti Motorsport). The team not just fields one, but all the three Mercedes juniors, with Antonelli and Powell. That is not it, as they also field Red Bull and McLaren F1 juniors.

OK: Antonelli wins, Camara consolidates his lead in the Championship

In France, the international circuit of Aunay-les-Bois offered good conditions this Friday afternoon for the Qualifying Practice of the second round of the FIA ​​Karting European Championship – OK & Junior. Good weather and mild temperatures allowed all the participants to show their talent without hesitation using MG Tires slick tires. British Driver Slater took the Junior pole position and Brazilian Camara set the fastest time in OK.

The Competition brought together 166 Drivers from 40 nations on the 1215 meter long Normandy layout. The track conditions did not vary much over the eight eight-minute sessions. Although the weather was favorable, not everyone was equally at ease on French soil due to a technical circuit that requires a certain amount of skill to master. The overall performances were very close, with Drivers being separated by a hundredth or even a thousandth of a second. The top three in both categories finished within a tenth of a second of each other, while 57 of the 62 OK and 78 of the 82 OK-Junior were separated by less than a second. The battle is well underway at this second European meeting behind the two leaders of the classification of each category, taking their respective pole position.

Slater takes Junior pole position

The leader of the FIA ​​Karting European Championship-Junior, the British Driver Freddie Slater had already shown his speed from him during the Free Practice session. He solidified his ambitions of him during the fourth and last timed session where he was the only one to be able to go under 48 ”, and this on three occasions. 46”200 was the best lap set by Brazilian Rafael Camara in the first Timed Qualifying session of the FIA ​​Karting European Championship – OK in Normandy. Despite the efforts of his rivals, I have held on to pole position until the end. Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli came within 8 thousandths during the second session, while Russian Artem Sevriukhin clocked a 46”286 in the next. Frenchman Evan Giltaire proved to be the fastest in the last session with a time of 46”434 and took 4th place in the ranking. Rafael Camara won the OK Final with a mighty performance and after a super weekend! The Brazilian had been fast since the Qualifying Practice and thoroughly went through the Qualifying Heats with no problems whatsoever, despite the wet track. He started the Final from P2, gained the lead during the opening laps and cruised to the finish securing a crucial win, to kick off the International season with big points in the bag!

Arvid Lindblad finished the race in second place; the Brit gained Pole Position for the Final after a great Saturday, when he won every race during the Qualifying Heats! As he told us in our interviews (check it out HERE), he couldn’t rival his teammate, Camara.

Kimi Antonelli, likewise, put on a racing masterclass during the Final, recovering 12 places to finish in P7, also scoring the fastest lap of the race! The Italian, reigning European Champion in OK class, had been very unlucky during Friday’s Qualifying Session (he was part of the only wet session) and also on Saturday’s QH, and lost many places, being forced to start his final from P19.

Disappointing weekend for Ugochukwu. The American driver scored a sensational Pole Position during Friday’s Qualifying Session, but was forced to retire in a couple of QH on Saturday, compromising his starting position for the Final. He finished the race in P10.

Akshay Bohra jumped on the OKJ podium in P2!

The driver from Singapore scored Pole Position during Friday’s Qualifying Session, with a fantastic lap, and finished the QH in P3; he fought very hard during the Final to keep the lead but, for this time, our rivals had something more. During our interview, Akshay praised the amazing work of the whole KR Team, since crucial decisions were taken in the right moment!

Good start of the International season for Alex Powell; the Jamaincan stayed into the Top 5 places with authority during the whole weekend, and is a serious candidate for the OKJ Title! He finished the race in P4.
Good weekend also for Irfan (P7) and Sammalisto (P8), who both performed pretty good especially in wet conditions.

The driver from Bulgaria started the weekend with some difficulties, being part of the only wet session during Friday’s Qualifying Practice. He later recovered nicely during the Qualifying Heats (he also won the last one).

He started the final from P7 and built his way up to P2 with an amazing progression! He did cross the finish line in P2 for what should have been a well deserved podium, but, unfortunately, Nikola had an innocent contact with a rival during the formation lap (something that can easily happen, not on purpose), since he was trying to recover his starting place after struggling to start his engine. This cost him a 5 second Front Fairing penalty (front spoiler being out of place), being classified in P5.

A disappointing ending but Nikola showed fantastic commitment and speed during the Belgian weekend; he will be part of the battle for the European Title!

Good race for Pasiewicz in OK class; the Polish driver lost some time during Saturday’s QH, but recovered 12 places during the final, finishing in P18 and showing great pace and determination! With a little more good luck, he’s going to be competitive in the future rounds.

Unlucky weekend for Domingues (who retired from the Final after a contact); Civico and Malek both lost some time during the qualifying heats and couldn’t access the Final.

Great performance for Cardenas in OK Junior! The driver from Perù, qualified in P2 overall during Friday’s Qualifying Practice; he performed really well during Saturday’s QH but, unfortunately, he retired from one QH, compromising his starting position for the Final.

Very unlucky weekend for Tuñon, Al Azhari and Robinson who didn’t gain access to the Final.

The FIA European Karting Championship never disappoints in providing some crazy video content. After last year’s brawl in Italy, the 2021 season started at Genk in Belgium for the OK and Junior category drivers – in a rather mixed weather conditions.

The Saturday action had plenty of dramas, where one of the Qualifying Heats of the Junior category, had karters slipping off the tarmac onto the grass bed and into the barriers. There were dark clouds overheard but the race started under dry conditions.

All the drivers on slicks, but were mindful of certain parts of the track, which was damp. However, with not even a lap done, the rain returned, sending karters into frenzy. It was at Turn 1, where majority of the field slid into the barrier, like driving on ice.

The race was immediately red-flagged and re-started under wet conditions. The spectacular crash, though, didn’t result in any injuries to the drivers. The karts, however, suffered damage along with the barriers, which needed some repairs.

The 2021 FIA Karting European Championship – OK and Junior started in Genk with a complicated hierarchy due to the current unstable weather in the Limburg region. The rest of the event promises to be even more exciting on a track that is already extremely selective. There is no doubt that the “Home of Champions” will put on a great show on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th May.

The MG Tires have required a little time to adapt to and an competent strategy from the teams to appreciate their full performance. Nothing too difficult to manage for the professionals supervising the drivers at this level. But the unstable weather in the Genk region posed more serious problems for the competitors. The weather was very variable at the circuit. A shower changed the situation during the second OK session, which had to run on slick tyres on a slippery track. This short rainy spell did however slightly affect the results of the other sessions and the final ranking of these Qualifying Practices does not fully reflect the strength of all those present. The Qualifying Heats to come on Saturday morning will be even more competitive.

As an indication, the OK pole position was achieved with 52”109 while that of the OK-Junior category was 54”281, i.e. about 2.2” difference over 1360 m. The gaps remained very close between the current top specialists in each category.

Bohra takes his chance in the Junior category

In the first OK-Junior Qualifying session, Akshay Bohra (SGP) threw all his strength into the battle. His fastest lap on the fifth lap finally earned him pole position in the category, less than 11 thousandths of a second ahead of Ean Eyckmans (BEL), then Alex Powell (JAM). Dion Gowda, also from Singapore, is second in the rankings thanks to his time of 54”383 in the very last moments of Session 2 against Coskun Irfan (GBR) and Kean Nakamura Berta (GBR). Third in the overall ranking, Andres Cardenas (PER) was the fastest in the last session with 54’362, ahead of Luka Sammalisto (FIN) and Enzo Deligny (FRA). Finally, the efforts of the reigning World Champion Freddie Slater (GBR) were hampered by the lack of grip on the track in the third session, and he could only manage 54’644. Maxens Verbrugge (FRA) and Hugo Herrouin (FRA) were not far behind him.

Youth and talent for OK poleman Ugochukwu

Ugo Ugochukwu (USA) – 52”109 – was finally credited with pole position after Joe Turney (GBR) had his fastest lap cancelled for hitting the track’s boundary marks. Rafael Camara (BRA) was second by 2 hundredths and Timoteusz Kurcharczyk (POL) third by 3 thousandths. Arvid Lindblad (GBR) was one of the favourites and took second place in the ranking thanks to his fastest time in the third session – 52”237 – ahead of Tuukka Taponen (FIN) and Brando Badoer (ITA). Leader of the fourth session, Matheus Morgatto (BRA) completed the top three of the ranking with a lap of 52”357 against Andrey Zhinov (RUS) and Juho Valtanen (FIN). In the famous second session where the drivers had to play a balancing act on slick tyres in the rain, the young Arthur Rogeon (FRA) took advantage of the return of the sun in the last seconds of the session to set the fastest time, 1’09”631, followed by Luigi Coluccio (ITA) and Ariel Elkin (ISR).

The FA Alonso Kart squad delivered a solid race in the OK Senior final, with spectacular action on track after a chaotic start; our drivers have been close for the entire race, fighting back to the top with an amazing progression!

Malek was our best placed driver as the checkered flag waved; P6 for him, confirming his solid growth over the course of these first races of the season! Tsolov followed in P7, again with a solid performance, despite getting involved in a contact in the beginning of the race.

Next we had Modonese in P8 (who scored a sensational P2 in qualifying on Friday), Fittipaldi P9, Pasiewicz P11, Leistra P14 and Del Pino P21.

Positive weekend for Burgoyne in OKJ, who gained 10 places during the final and finished in P23, while his teammates Kastelic and Fluxa both were unlucky during the intermediate stages of the competition, just like Hoogendoorn and Gaspar (60 Mini).

The Team is now focusing on the next race in Lonato!

The third round of WSK Super Master Series has been successful both in terms of participation and spectacle. The race was housed by the new 1550 meters long International Circuit Napoli in Sarno (Salerno, ITA) with 271 drivers on track from 47 nations out of the entered 300.

Kremers takes the win in KZ2, Valtanen the lead of the championship

Several twists enlivened KZ2 where, eventually, the Dutch Marijn Kremers (BirelART Racing/BirelART-TM Racing) took the win in an exciting finale after winning Prefinal/B. He led the KR Motorsport pairing made by the Finn Juho Valtanen (KR-TM Racing), who won Prefinal/A, and the Italian Danilo Albanese (KR-Iame).

The other Italian Giuseppe Palomba (BirelART Racing/BirelART-TM Racing) was fourth and the Finn Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex) fifth.

The Italian Francesco Celenta (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin-TM Racing) and the French Adrien Renaudin (Sodikart/Sodikart-TM Racing) did not finish due to an incident, while other protagonists like the classification leader from Sweden Viktor Gustavsson (Leclerc by Lennox/BirelART-TM Racing) and the Italian Alex Irlando (CRG Racing Team/CRG-TM Racing) were out of the games already in the Prefinal.

Antonelli back to the victory in OK. Camara keeps the lead

Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) was back to the victory in a WSK event after winning last year the WSK Euro Series.

The Italian driver has been perfect both in Prefinal-A and in the Final, dominating the two races from lights to flag, while his teammate from Brazil Rafael Camara won Prefinal-B, but then was relegated from P2 to P4 by a 3s time penalty in the Final, a result that allowed him to retain the classification lead. The other two podium positions went therefore to the Finn Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex) and the Russian Artem Severiukhin (Ward Racing/Tony Kart-Vortex). The Czech driver Igor Cepil (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) was fifth instead.

Russian drivers leads in new Sarno’s track; Kutskov wins from Popov. Powell leads the championship

Russian drivers have been shining in OK-Junior after the Japanese Kean Nakamura Berta (Forza Racing/Exprit-TM Racing) and the French Enzo Deligny (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin-TM Racing) had the upper hand in the two Prefinals. The Russian Kirill Kutskov (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) and his fellow-countryman Maksimilian Popov (Ward Racing/Tony Kart-Vortex) bounced back in the Final dominating it.

The third place went to Singapore’s Akshay Bohra (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) who led the Belgian teammate Douwe Dedecker. Dedecker ended fifth winning the sprint to the line with the other KR Motorsport, the Jamaican Alex Powell, who confirmed his classification lead.

Maiden win for Olivieri in MINI. The championship still in Costoya’s hands.

The MINI Final has been uncertain and hard fought. This time the victory went to the young Italian Emanuele Olivieri (Formula K Serafini/IPK-TM Racing), who claimed his maiden win in a WSK event. Olivieri pipped the Czech Jindrich Pesl (Baby Race/Parolin-Iame) and the Brit Lewis Wherrell (Team Driver/KR-Iame) in the brand-new Sarno layout.

The Dutch René Lammers (Baby Race/Parolin-Iame) was among the quickest and slipped down to P4 in the closing stages, while the French Jimmy Helias (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex) was fifth.

The classification is still sub-judice due to the appeal to the decision to exclude Helias from qualifying early into the weekend. The Spanish classification leader Christian Costoya (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin-TM Racing) was eighth after winning Prefinal-A and leading the central part of the Final.

Oleksandr Bondarev showed passion for competition since a very young age. By 2014 he started racing go-karts, when he was just 5 years old. He didn’t hesitate much to start winning, and by 2016, he was already on a national-winning level. Just aged 7, Oleksandr became Champion of Ukraine. Not only that, but he also conquered the Rotax Max Challenge of the country and the Cup of Ukraine in National class.

He kept improving his results for the following year, when he managed to be the Vice-Champion of his country. Oleksandr Bondarev was again the Cup of Ukraine Champion in 2017 at just 8 years old. It was around that time that he decided to expand his racing opportunities and decided to start racing in Europe.

Having lived in Madrid and spent his summers in Calella, Oleksandr’s European campaigns started on the Iberian Peninsula, racing in both Spain and Portugal. He managed to win various stages in the National Championship of both countries, still being under 10 years old. A highlight of the year was the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Final – where the 36 best drivers in the world race for glory. Fighting among the best in the world, he managed to finish in an outstanding P6. But it didn’t take long for him to come back to winning ways. In Portugal, he won the Bridgestone Cup and the Portuguese Champions Cup.

It was a busy year, but it was worth it, as in 2018 he became a member of the Spanish professional team EKR Kart Racing. The year in which Oleksandr Bondarev was 9 years old was filled with victories on various Championships in which he raced. His first win came on the Spanish National Championship, on the first round of the event. It was a signal of what was coming next. He won CEE stages in Rotax Max Challenge, Rotax Spain and Rotax Portugal, and he became a winner as well on the Central and Eastern European (CEE) Championship Rotax Max Challenge. To put the cherry on top, he had a one-off appearance on the WSK Series, racing at the end of the World Championship’s season. Even though he was a rookie on the series, Oleksandr finished on the top 5.

By 2019, Oleksandr Bondarev changed teams to race for the Italian team Gamoto Kart. With them, he would take part in the WSK Series, one of the most prestigious international karting championships in the world, where he raced in the Mini class.

The 2020 season was a fruitful one for Oleksandr Bondarev. This time he started racing on the Junior category X30, becoming a winner in class. He also won prizes in rounds of the Iame Series Italy and on the national karting Italian Championship. With these results, he secured a 3rd place overall that got him the Bronze medal on the Italian Championship. Furthermore, he took part in the famous Trofeo Margutti, finishing a wonderful 2nd place.

Now 11, the young Ukranian-Spanish driver has stepped up to racing on the OKJ World Championship in WSK. And he is selected among all pilots in Ukraine to represent the country in FIA Academy Trophy.

The positive trend of WSK events continues with record figures also at the third round of the WSK Super Master Series that will get underway at the International Circuit Napoli in Sarno (Salerno, ITA) on March 25-28th. This participation result has never been reached by an International Series in the four entitled categories MINI, OKJ, OK and KZ2. The race on the new track of Sarno follows the success scored by the opener in Adria and that of the second round in La Conca.

Gustafsson leads KZ2

KZ2 will resume with the classification led by the Swede Viktor Gustafsson (Leclerc by Lennox/BirelART-TM Racing), who won in Adria and totaled 89 points so far. He is followed by the Finn Juho Valtanen (KR Motorsport/KR-TM Racing) at 68 and the Italians Danilo Albanese (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) at 41 and Francesco Celenta (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin-TM Racing) at 35. The French Adrien Renaudin (Sodikart/Sodikart-TM Racing) is one point short at 34.

Camara leads OK, but Lindblad is closing in

In OK, after the first two rounds held in Adria and La Conca, the classification lead is held by the Brazilian Rafael Camara (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) at 164 points, but his teammate from Britain Arvid Lindblad is closing in at 136 points, thanks to the victory in the round in La Conca. The third position is currently occupied by the Pole Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (BirelART Racing/RK-TM Racing) at 77 points. He is followed by Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) at 64 and the Finn Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex) at 60.

Powell leads Al Dhaheri in OKJ

In OK-Junior the Jamaican Alex Powell (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) made a big leap forward in the classification thanks to the victory he claimed in La Conca, while the classification of the United Arab Emirates’ driver Rashid Al Dhaheri (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin-TM Racing) suffered a heavy blow due to the retirement in the Prefinal of La Conca after the victory in Adria. Powell took therefore the lead of the standings at 108 points, Al Dhaheri follows him at 94 and the Asian Akshay Bohra (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) is third at 91. The latter proceeds his teammate from Brazil Matheus Ferreira, who stands at 81 and the German Maxim Rehm (Ricky Flynn/Kosmic-Vortex) at 75.

Costoya is the new leader of MINI

The challenge is tight also in MINI that has a lot of strong title contenders. The lead of the standings is currently held by the Spanish driver Christian Costoya (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin/TM Racing) who totaled 127 points thanks to the win in La Conca from his teammate from Colombia Matias Orjuela, who was pipped at the flag by 0.009s. The winner in Adria from Holland René Lammers (Baby Race/Parolin-Iame) is second at 119 points and the Russian Gerasim Skulanov (CRG Racing Team/CRG-TM Racing) third at 114. The Pole Jan Przyrowsky (AV Racing/Parolin-TM Racing) is fourth at 107 points, Orjuela fifth at 88.

The German Kart Championship has a long tradition and is going to celebrate its 60th anniversary next year. Ever since the beginnings, numerous motorsports stars have celebrated their first successes in the DKM and things should go on like this in the future. One of the most recent examples is Mick Schumacher: He rose from the DJKM and is going to celebrate his debut in the Formula 1 World Championship this year.

But the Corona pandemic causes uncertainty among the drivers and teams. The DKM team already adjusted to this in 2020 and is presenting an attractive program in 2021 again. Nonetheless, there was criticism among drivers and teams, which the people responsible for the DKM took to heart.

“It’s important to us to organize a Championship that makes the participants feel comfortable. We’ve received a lot of feedback these past weeks and talked about it within our team”, says series coordinator Stefan Wagner.

At the DMSB Shifterkart Cup, the registration fee is going to be lowered to 2.900€ again and is therefore on the same level as 2020. Every driver who is already registered is going to profit from this adjustment as well. At the same time, a possible merging of the shifterkart categories DSKM and DSKC was taken off the table. Both classes are going to take place in full at all five season races with their own ranked races.

An additional special regulation is going to affect the guest drivers at the season kick-off in Kerpen. They will get the chance to still register for the Championship fully until two weeks before the next race. The guest start is then going to be changed into a regular registration and the drivers will be entitled to their points. At the same time, the guest driver fee is going to be deducted from the registration fee.

There is going to be a new rookie sponsoring in the DJKM and DKM classes. The best rookie (DJKM: born in 2009; DKM: born in 2007) of the respective overall list of rankings will not have to pay the registration fee for the next year.

Due to the already tested and very extensive security- and hygiene-concept of the DKM, there is currently nothing standing in the way of the season kick-off in Kerpen.

“This is a positive signal for all drivers and teams. We’re excited to be able to already provide planning security here”, continues Wagner.

All in all, the racing calendar of the DKM consists of five racing weekends again with events in Kerpen, Wackersdorf, Genk (Belgium), Mülsen and Ampfing.

Key-Facts regarding DKM season 2021:

• Registration for all classes possible until two weeks before a respective race.
• Payment of registration fees for all classes (DKM, DJKM, DSKM and DSKC) until May 1st 2021.
• No late fee for registrations after February 28th 2021.
• Consistent registration fees of 3.200€ for DKM, DJKM and DSKM, as well as 2.900€ for DSKC.
• Security- and hygiene-fee of 500€ (100 € per race weekend) per driver, which is going to be transmitted to the organizers in full for the implementation of the necessary concepts.
• Individual ranking and ranked races for DSKM and DSKC classes.
• Rookie sponsoring in the DJKM and DKM classes. The best rookie
• (DJKM: born in 2009; DKM: born in 2007) won’t have to pay registration fee for the next season.
• Guest drivers from Kerpen can still fully register for their class up until two weeks before the next race (Wackersdorf).  The results of the guest start are then going to count for points and the guest driver fee is going to be deducted from the registration fee.

Even though the KZ-2 class didn’t race this weekend, more than 170 drivers from 44 different nations took on the Italian track. The missing class will be back for the next race in Sarno, the 28^th of March, and will be at Lonato as well for the final round of the Championship.

Lindblad wins the race, but doesn’t lead the Champioship.

British driver Arvid Lindblad set the fastest time on Saturday, so his win was a safe bet. Come the final, there was several drivers on the lead, initially being Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) who started in front of the grid. Classification leader and teammate Rafael Camara (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) overtook Antonelli for the lead, but he wouldn’t be in first place until the end. KR Motorsport driver Arvid Lindblad overtook Camara and kept his lead until the checkered flag. Camara finished in second, what was a relief for his Championship campaign. Now, the Brazilian is still on the lead with 164 points, followed by race winner Lindblad with 136. Third position went to Tymotheus Kucharczyk (BirelART Racing/RK-TM Racing) and Joseph Turney (Tony Kart Racing/Tony Kart-Vortex) was right at the gates of a podium in P4. Once pole sitter Antonelli finished in fifth. The top 10 were completed by Spina, Taponen, Malek, Zhivnov and Bertuca.

Powell wins in OKJ and snatches the lead.

Jamaican Alex Powell (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) imposed himself on the final and lead all laps, proving that P2 in the first race on Saturday was the exception. Singapore’s Akshay Bohra, who was the fastest on Saturday, had to settle for second, but he can leave La Conca knowing he’s just three points behind second on the Championship Al Dhaheri, who didn’t make it to the end after an incident on Prefinal A.

Brazilian Matheus Ferreira finished on the last step of the podium for KR Motorsport, followed by Russian Tigran Bunatyan (Team Komarov/Tony Kart-TM Racing) and compatriot Miguel Costa (Sauber/KR-Iame) in P5. The rest of the top 10 were Dedecker, Gubenko, Eyckmans, Deligny and Popov.

Costoya wins in MINI for the lead.

A lot of lead changes in the smallest class brought a dramatic end to the weekend, where Christian Costoya (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin-TM Racing) snatched the race win from teammate Matias Orjuela by just 0.009s after a hard-fought battle on track. The Spaniard is now leading the Championship ahead of Rene Lammers (Baby Race/Parolin-Iame), who couldn’t replicate his results at Adria and finished in fifth. Ahead of Lammers, Russian Gerasim Skulanov (CRG Racing Team/CRG-TM Racing) finished 3^rd, followed by his compatriot Vladimir Ivannikov (Drago Corse/Parolin-TM Racing). The top 10 was completed by Sauber, Olivieri, Przyrowsky, Tarnvanichkul and Schaufler.

Following the Covid-19 protocol and according to the ACI Sport regulations, the event is run behind closed doors.

In this second round more than 170 drivers are challenging each other in category MINI, OKJ and OK, and several new drivers came to the fore after the recent opener in Adria. In this occasion KZ2 is not present, but it will be back in Sarno on March 28th and then at the grand finale of the WSK Super Master Series in Lonato on April 25th.

Lindblad posts the pole position time in OK. The first two heats go to Tsolov and Cepil instead.
The British driver Arvid Lindblad (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) secured the pole position in OK with a best time of 44.459s. He was followed by his teammate from Czech Republic Igor Cepil, who posted the quickest time of Series-2 in 44.699s. The Finn Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex) was also among the fastest and came second in Series-1 in 44.781s, while the Norwegian Martinius Stenshorne (Leclerc by Lennox/BirelART-TM Racing) was second in Series-2 in 44.702s.
Heats. The first heat (C-E) has lived on an exciting duel for the top and the Bulgarian Nikola Tsolov (DPK/KR-Iame) eventually pipped the Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) by 0.067s. The third place was also decided in the sprint to the line and Taponen proceeded Brando Badoer (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) by 0.069s. Cepil won the second heat leading Alfio Andrea Spina (Tony Kart/Vortex) who put in a good comeback race, while Stenshorne was third.

Three qualifying series took place in OK-Junior. The quickest of all was Singapore’s Akshay Bohra (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) who topped Series-1 in 46.180s. The Russian Alexander Gubenko (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex) was the quickest in Series-2 with a best time of 46.259s, while the Dane David Walther (Koski Motorsport/Tony Kart-Vortex) was the fastest of Series-3 in 46.264s.
Heats. In the first heat (C-E), the victory went to Walther, who led Alex Powell (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame). The victory of the second heat (B-D) was claimed by Gubenko, while the Brazilian Matheus Ferreira (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) had the best of his teammate from China Yuanpu Cui as the two ended respectively second and third. Bohra confirmed his speed in the heat A-E leading his two teammates from Russia at Team Komarov, Tigran Bunatyan and Anatoly Khavalkin. The Jamaican Alex Powell (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) bounced back in the C-D heat taking the win ahead of his teammate Ferreira and the American James Egozi (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex).

In the second of the three qualifying series of MINI, Kian Fardin Sharabian (Team Driver/KR-Iame) posted the overall fastest time in 51.639s, while Jacopo Martinese (CMT/Parolin-TM Racing) was the fastest of Series-1 in 51.884s and Davide Bottaro (AV Racing/Parolin-TM Racing) topped the charts of Series-3 in 52.015s.
Heats. The first of the two qualifying heats saw the Belgian Dries Van Langendonck (BirelART Racing/BirelART-TM Racing) taking the win from the British driver Alfie Slater (Energy Corse/Energy-TM Racing) who completed a good race as Singapore’s Tiziano Monza (Sauber/KR-Iame) that ended third. The second heat was won by the Russian Gerasim Skulanov (CRG Racing Team/CRG-TM Racing) at the end of a comeback run. He eventually led the Turkish driver Alp Aksoy (Baby Race/Parolin-Iame) and the Pole Jan Przyrowsky (AV Racing/Parolin-TM Racing). Martinese was fourth instead.

The fifth edition of the IAME Winter Cup, organized by RGMMC, gathered once again the best IAME teams and drivers in Mini, Junior, and Senior classes on the Kartodromo Valencia. While the Spanish track remained dry on Friday and Saturday, rain came spicing up Sunday’s Prefinals and Finals, bringing the best out of the competitors in each field. Some of them were able to make a difference in the most crucial moments, like Roman Kamyab achieving his first international success in Mini, Bart Harrison winning the Junior class for the second season in a row, and Dean MacDonald leading the Senior Final from lights to flag!

Senior

Daniel Nogales (Kart Republic Spain) set the fastest time of the Senior class, the most crowded field with up to 60 entrants. Sam Balota (Dan Holland Racing) was second-best ahead of Dean MacDonald (Strawberry Racing). The GT car driver started his weekend on the right foot with a first heat win on the same day, followed by a second place and two more victories, which gave him the provisional lead on Saturday evening. Sunday morning’s Prefinal went to Kimber ahead MacDonald and Clayton Ravenscroft (KR Sport), pulling off a 13-place recovery!

Second overall last season, MacDonald turned into domination mode for this year’s Final! Thanks to his better start, the Brit rapidly built a gap and led the 20-lap race from lights to flag, emulating his win of 2019. As the leader could not be caught again, Kimber had to make do with second place ahead of Westover.

Junior

William Macintyre (KR Sport) emerged quickest in Friday’s Qualifying ahead of Louis Leveau (Monlau Competicion), followed by Ivan Arias Chavarri (AC Motorsport) and Adria Mustienes Gil (Kidstowin). Macintyre kept the lead after the heats with two wins. Kanato Le (Fusion Motorsport) came to the fore in second position in front of Arias Chavarri, winner of the penultimate heat on Saturday. In Sunday’s Prefinal, Le made good use of the drying conditions and passed Macintyre for victory, with Robinson diving through for second place.

In Sunday’s Final, Robinson started well at lights out before Le took the lead back in the opening lap. While the Brit quickly built himself a one-second gap, Harrison was equally fast in fighting his way through the pack. From the third row of the grid, he climbed to second and launched a successful move on Le close to half-race. Once in the lead, Harrison kept all doors shut, which allowed a recovering Marcus Luzio (KR Sport), 10th on the grid, to close in on Le. In the last lap, the latter went off the track, let Luzio through for second, but was able to keep the third spot. Unaware of the drama behind him, Harrison could savour his second Winter Cup win in a row. Le was eventually classified as runner-up following a penalty for Luzio, with Macintyre completing the podium.

Mini

The Qualifying session of the Mini category saw the local drivers top the timesheet with Sandro Perez Sanchez (MDC Racing) on pole, followed by Raul Zunzarren Perez (Monlau Competicion) and Alejandro Martinez (Praga Racing). The eliminatory races led to a close fight between Perez Sanchez and Zunzarren Perez. While each driver won twice, the former claimed the first place, followed by a single point by Zunzarren Perez, with Martinez and Roman Kamyab (Privateer) third and fourth. In Sunday’s Prefinal, the leading order was turned upside down with Zunzarren Perez retiring after some troublesome opening laps, Martinez being disqualified and Perez Sanchez going from first to fourth against Sacha Van’t Pad Bosch (Fusion), Kamyab, and Luuk Taal (Fusion Motorsport).

The Minis were the first out on track for their final race on Sunday afternoon. While Van’t Pad Bosch kept his advantage at the start, Taal went past Kamyab for second place but the Brit quickly made his way up to first and kept the whole 15-lap race under control! Despite his efforts, Van’t Pad Bosch had to make do with second place with Taal completing the top 3.

IAME Winter Cup Awards

The three class winners Roman Kamyab, Bart Harrison, and Dean MacDonald were awarded the full IAME Euro Series entry, as well as the driver pack, while the drivers in second place were awarded entry and driver pack for 2 IAME Euro Series races, and the 3^rd place one race each.
