The German Kart Championship traveled to Ampfing on the Schweppermannring for its half-time event. An international field of participants dueled on the race track in beaming sunshine in Southern Germany. In the end, there were five different winners.

The conditions for the third racing weekend of the German Kart Championship couldn’t have been better. The sun shone from the sky on all three racing days and made the finals on Sunday especially challenging for man and machine. The focus was on winning the half-time Championship: Maxim Rehm (DKM), Jens Treur (DJKM), Jorrit Pex (DSKM) and Ben Dörr (DSKC) secured this unofficial title.

The races were balanced. There were narrow fights for positions in all classes up until the end. There were three double winners in the end: Jens Treur (DJKM), Jorrit Pex (DSKM) and Matteo Spirgel (DSKC). Only in the DKM, Maxim Rehm and Luca Griggs shared the victories.

DKM: Maxim Rehm and Luca Griggs share victories

Maxim Rehm (Rehm Racing) dominated qualifying and the heats with a strong performance. The Baden-Wuerttemberg resident therefore gained pole position for the first final race. Things weren’t easy for him then though. Kiano Blum (TB Racing Team) caught up with him towards the middle of the race and put a lot of pressure on Rehm, who kept his nerves and won narrowly in front of the Austrian.

Juliano Holzem (Dörr Motorsport) came in third, followed by Lenny Ried (Lanari Racing Team), Kevin Lantinga (Falcon Racing Team) and reigning Champion Niels Troeger (SRP Racing Team).

Reigning vice Champion Luca Griggs (Falcon Racing Team) caused a surprise in the second final race, starting from eleventh place with four new tires. Due to an impressive pace, he raced through the field and took the lead in the middle of the race. He then achieved an advance of about six seconds until crossing the finish line and thereby celebrated his first victory of the season.

Rehm still won the half-time Championship. He fought a narrow fight for second place with Blum, but in the end the German prevailed while Blum fell back behind Lantinga to fourth place during the last bend. Holzem completed the top five.

Championship ranking DKM after 6 of 10 races:
1. Maxim Rehm (155 points)
2. Kiano Blum (131 points)
3. Kevin Lantinga (108 points)
4. Niels Troeger (105 points)
5. Lenny Ried (97 points)

DJKM: Double victory and half-time title for Jens Treur

Dane Tobias Bille Clausen (Shamick Europe) drove the best time at qualifying of the juniors and also won one heat. Jens Treur (Falcon Racing Team) gained pole position after the heats though: With a victory and a second place he had the least penalty points in the evening and led the field into the first final race. The Dutchman also set the pace here and couldn’t even be deterred by strong Tom Kalender (TB Racing Team) towards the end.

Behind the two leading drivers, there was a thrilling fight during the last few laps. At first, only Maxens Verbrugge (TB Racing Team) and Clausen fought for third place, but Simon Rechenmacher (TB Racing Team) and Portuguese Rodrigo Seabra (Lanari Racing Team) came close too. The four drivers fought until the finish line. In the end, Verbrugge came in third in front of Rechenmacher and Sabrea. The latter received a spoiler penalty though and fell back to ninth place behind Clausen. New fifth winner was Luca Schwab (TB Racing Team).

Kick-off winner Treur also couldn’t be stopped during the second race. With a confident performance, he drove towards a double victory and thereby further strengthened his Championship lead.

There was no change on second position as well: Kalender stayed in the winner’s wind shadow, but never got a chance to attack. Regarding the further positions, there was a group of six divers who fought for the remaining cup ranks. At first it looked like Schwab was going to prevail, but he lost all chances due to a technical flag. Rechenmacher took his place followed by Clausen and Verbrugge.

Championship ranking DJKM after 6 of 10 races:
1. Jens Treur (166 points)
2. Tobias Bille Clausen (143 points)
3. Tom Kalender (122 points)
4. Maxens Verbrugge (105 points)
5.  Simon Rechenmacher (104 points)

DKSM: Jorrit Pex celebrates impressive double victory

Overall leader Jorrit Pex (SP Motorsport) already made it clear on Saturday that he wanted to achieve his first victory of the season this weekend. He led the field at qualifying and the heats and gained the maximum amount of points. He tied in with this performance in the first final race. At first, he lost the start to Tim Troeger (SRP Racing Team), but the Dutchman drove past Troeger again soon and celebrated his first victory of the season.

The places behind the winner were taken quickly too. Troeger led the field of pursuers in front of Guust Specken (CRG Holland), David Trefilov (SRP Racing Team) and Daniel Stell (Haak Motorsport).

The second final race was truly exciting then: Troeger won the start again and Pex countered shortly after. Until the middle of the race it looked like an easy race for the seven-time Champion. But the competition with new tires came close and tried everything to drive past him. The routine driver showed his entire skill set and defended his lead until the finish line. Valentino Fritsch (BirelART Racing KSW), Stell, Kris Haanen (SP Motorsport) and Alexander Schmitz (BirelART Racing KSW) followed in his wind shadow. The two latter drivers showed impressive catching-up races from 13th and 14th starting positions. Double winner Pex was in the best mood in the subsequent interview: “We already knew before the start that it was going to be a tough race with four old tires. I tried to drive off a bit, but my opponents were very fast. I had to keep my rhythm then to win.”

Championship ranking DSKM after 6 of 10 races:
1. Jorrit Pex (167 points)
2. Daniel Stell (114 points)
3. David Trefilov (105 points)
4. Kris Haanen (103 points)
5. Guust Specken (85 points)

In four weeks, the German Kart Championship’s fourth event is going to take place. Then, the Championship presented by Point-Racing is going to travel to the Arena E in Muelsen.

(FIA Karting European Championship)

The first of two FIA Karting European Championship events – KZ & KZ2, as well as the first of three FIA Karting Academy Trophy events will take place from 17th-20th June 2021 in Germany at the ProKart Raceland circuit in Wackersdorf.

Germany is a prime destination for this third FIA Karting event of the year. The 1222m track, demanding for both karts and drivers, is renowned for both its selectivity and the spectacle it generates. The rigorous organization of the Wackersdorf team is particularly appreciated in these times of health crisis complementing the FIA control protocol. The live internet broadcast on Saturday and Sunday allows a large global audience to follow the exciting competition ahead.

The total attendance of the event is at an excellent level with over 175 entries from 53 countries from all five continents, which is close to a record. While the big names in KZ will be there, the KZ2 category has a remarkable field of over 100 drivers, including some significant transfers from the direct-drive categories. The maximum number of 51 drivers was quickly reached in the FIA Karting Academy Trophy. The three categories racing in Wackersdorf will all be equipped with MG Tires.

KZ, the domain of the professionals

The FIA Karting European Championship – KZ brings together 26 participants, three quarters of whom raced in 2020. There is no shortage of drivers with previous titles, with five former World Champions and five European Champions competing for the 2021 title, as well as two winners of the FIA Karting International Super Cup – KZ2.

Crowned last year, Frenchman Jérémy Iglesias and Dutchman Marijn Kremers, could well continue to compete with Alessandro Irlando (ITA), Simo Puhakka (FIN), Stan Pex (NLD) and Riccardo Longhi (ITA), who were all in the European top five in 2020. A dozen other well-known drivers will join the battle, in addition to two young rising stars from KZ2, Émilien Denner (FRA) and Viktor Gustafsson (SWE). Former Spanish Formula 1 driver Jaime Alguersuari will make his return to competition. I have finished 9th in the CIK-FIA KZ World Championship in 2013.

KZ2: over 100 drivers for the opening round

The FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 is full to the brim in Wackersdorf with 102 entries including 14 wild cards. The race for the title is likely to involve around twenty experienced drivers, but it would not be surprising if some new names appeared at the top of the ranking.

Dutchman Senna Van Walstijn is one of the favorites in Wackersdorf, together with Germans David Trefilov, Valentino Fritsch and Alexander Schmitz. The Italians are also present in force: Giuseppe Palomba, Danilo Albanese, Alessio Piccini and Giacomo Pollini undoubtedly have their chances, as well as Matteo Zanchi. Other experienced drivers like Jorge Pescador (ESP), Paavo Tonteri (FIN), Kristijan Habulin (HRV) and Andrea Dale (ITA) should be able to obtain good results.

In a new development, several drivers have made the step up from OK or even OK-Junior to KZ2 this year. Lorenzo Travisanutto (ITA), the double OK World Champion in 2018 and 2019, Kajus Siksnelis (LTU), winner of the 2019 FIA Karting Academy Trophy, Jamie Day (ARE), Laurens Van Hoepen (NLD), Markus Kajak (EST), Luca Leistra (BEL), Hugo Sasse (DEU) are all in this category. Some of them even have a double OK / KZ2 program this season, like Juho Valtanen (FIN) or James Wharton (AUS).

12th season of the Academy

The FIA Karting Academy Trophy is successfully continuing its mission to detect young talent from around the world for the twelfth consecutive year. The Exprit / Vortex one-design karts with MG Tires will allow the 51 participants from 50 nations from all five continents to compete on equal terms from the first event in Wackersdorf.

Four drivers will be competing in their second season in the Academy, including Belgian Tom Braeken and Oscar Wurz from Monaco, who are determined to achieve good results this year. Augustin Bernier (FRA), Dion Gowda (SGP), Maciej Gladysz (POL), Lucas Fluxa Cross (ESP), Mark Kastelic (SVN), Oleksandr Bondarev (UKR), Salim Hanna (COL) and Leo Robinson (DZA) are all coming in with a wealth of international experience that should allow them to aim for the top spots. As always in this competition, we can also expect to see the revelation of little known talents. South African driver Tyler Jean Robinson, previously selected by the FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars program, will be the only female driver on the grid under the banner of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission.

Lively and hard fought finals in Sarno at the third round of the WSK Super Master Series. Kremers won KZ2, Antonelli dominated OK, Kutskov to the fore in OKJ and Olivieri claimed his maiden win in MINI. The fourth and closing race on April 25th in Lonato.

The third round of WSK Super Master Series has been successful both in terms of participation and spectacle. The race was housed by the new 1550 meters long International Circuit Napoli in Sarno (Salerno, ITA) with 271 drivers on track from 47 nations out of the entered 300.

Kremers takes the win in KZ2, Valtanen the lead of the championship

Several twists enlivened KZ2 where, eventually, the Dutch Marijn Kremers (BirelART Racing/BirelART-TM Racing) took the win in an exciting finale after winning Prefinal/B. He led the KR Motorsport pairing made by the Finn Juho Valtanen (KR-TM Racing), who won Prefinal/A, and the Italian Danilo Albanese (KR-Iame).

The other Italian Giuseppe Palomba (BirelART Racing/BirelART-TM Racing) was fourth and the Finn Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex) fifth.

The Italian Francesco Celenta (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin-TM Racing) and the French Adrien Renaudin (Sodikart/Sodikart-TM Racing) did not finish due to an incident, while other protagonists like the classification leader from Sweden Viktor Gustavsson (Leclerc by Lennox/BirelART-TM Racing) and the Italian Alex Irlando (CRG Racing Team/CRG-TM Racing) were out of the games already in the Prefinal.

Final KZ2: 1. Kremers; 2. Valtanen; 3. Albanese; 4. Palomba; 5. Puhakka; 6. Longhi; 7. Ippolito; 8. Marseglia; 9. Hiltbrand; 10. Iglesias.

KZ2 classification: 1. Valtanen points 174; 2. Kremers 131; 3. Gustavsson 101; 4. Albanese 100; 5. Puhakka 93.

Antonelli back to the victory in OK. Camara keeps the lead

Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) was back to the victory in a WSK event after winning last year the WSK Euro Series.

The Italian driver has been perfect both in Prefinal-A and in the Final, dominating the two races from lights to flag, while his teammate from Brazil Rafael Camara won Prefinal-B, but then was relegated from P2 to P4 by a 3s time penalty in the Final, a result that allowed him to retain the classification lead. The other two podium positions went therefore to the Finn Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex) and the Russian Artem Severiukhin (Ward Racing/Tony Kart-Vortex). The Czech driver Igor Cepil (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) was fifth instead.

Final OK: 1. Antonelli; 2. Taponen; 3. Severiukhin; 4. Camara; 5. Cepil; 6. Malek; 7. Tsolov; 8. Modenese; 9. Fittipaldi; 10. Turney.

OK classification: 1. Camara points 255; 2. Antonelli 196; 3. Taponen 157; 4. Lindblad 145; 5. Severiukhin 123.

Russian drivers leads in new Sarno’s track; Kutskov wins from Popov. Powell leads the championship

Russian drivers have been shining in OK-Junior after the Japanese Kean Nakamura Berta (Forza Racing/Exprit-TM Racing) and the French Enzo Deligny (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin-TM Racing) had the upper hand in the two Prefinals. The Russian Kirill Kutskov (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) and his fellow-countryman Maksimilian Popov (Ward Racing/Tony Kart-Vortex) bounced back in the Final dominating it.

The third place went to Singapore’s Akshay Bohra (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) who led the Belgian teammate Douwe Dedecker. Dedecker ended fifth winning the sprint to the line with the other KR Motorsport, the Jamaican Alex Powell, who confirmed his classification lead.

Final OKJ: 1. Kutskov; 2. Popov; 3. Bohra; 4. Dedecker; 5. Deligny; 6. Powell; 7. Slater; 8. Krapin; 9. Keeble; 10. Sammalisto.

OKJ classification: 1. Powell points 180; 2. Bohra 160; 3. Kutskov 123; 4. Popov 122; 5. Slater 101.

Maiden win for Olivieri in MINI. The championship still in Costoya’s hands.

The MINI Final has been uncertain and hard fought. This time the victory went to the young Italian Emanuele Olivieri (Formula K Serafini/IPK-TM Racing), who claimed his maiden win in a WSK event. Olivieri pipped the Czech Jindrich Pesl (Baby Race/Parolin-Iame) and the Brit Lewis Wherrell (Team Driver/KR-Iame) in the brand-new Sarno layout.

The Dutch René Lammers (Baby Race/Parolin-Iame) was among the quickest and slipped down to P4 in the closing stages, while the French Jimmy Helias (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex) was fifth.

The classification is still sub-judice due to the appeal to the decision to exclude Helias from qualifying early into the weekend. The Spanish classification leader Christian Costoya (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin-TM Racing) was eighth after winning Prefinal-A and leading the central part of the Final.

Final MINI (sub-judice): 1. Olivieri; 2. Pesl; 3. Wherrell; 4. Lammers; 5. Helias; 6. Orjuela; 7. Ivannikov; 8. Costoya; 9. Slater; 10. Tarnvanichkul.

MINI classification (sub-judice): 1. Costoya points 195; 2. Lammers 192; 3. Olivieri 146; 4. Orjuela 124; 5. Skulanov 120.

The third round of the WSK Super Master Series is ready to start at the new International Circuit Napoli for categories MINI, OKJ, OK and KZ2.

The positive trend of WSK events continues with record figures also at the third round of the WSK Super Master Series that will get underway at the International Circuit Napoli in Sarno (Salerno, ITA) on March 25-28th. This participation result has never been reached by an International Series in the four entitled categories MINI, OKJ, OK and KZ2. The race on the new track of Sarno follows the success scored by the opener in Adria and that of the second round in La Conca.

Gustafsson leads KZ2

KZ2 will resume with the classification led by the Swede Viktor Gustafsson (Leclerc by Lennox/BirelART-TM Racing), who won in Adria and totaled 89 points so far. He is followed by the Finn Juho Valtanen (KR Motorsport/KR-TM Racing) at 68 and the Italians Danilo Albanese (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) at 41 and Francesco Celenta (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin-TM Racing) at 35. The French Adrien Renaudin (Sodikart/Sodikart-TM Racing) is one point short at 34.

Camara leads OK, but Lindblad is closing in

In OK, after the first two rounds held in Adria and La Conca, the classification lead is held by the Brazilian Rafael Camara (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) at 164 points, but his teammate from Britain Arvid Lindblad is closing in at 136 points, thanks to the victory in the round in La Conca. The third position is currently occupied by the Pole Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (BirelART Racing/RK-TM Racing) at 77 points. He is followed by Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) at 64 and the Finn Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex) at 60.

Powell leads Al Dhaheri in OKJ

In OK-Junior the Jamaican Alex Powell (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) made a big leap forward in the classification thanks to the victory he claimed in La Conca, while the classification of the United Arab Emirates’ driver Rashid Al Dhaheri (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin-TM Racing) suffered a heavy blow due to the retirement in the Prefinal of La Conca after the victory in Adria. Powell took therefore the lead of the standings at 108 points, Al Dhaheri follows him at 94 and the Asian Akshay Bohra (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) is third at 91. The latter proceeds his teammate from Brazil Matheus Ferreira, who stands at 81 and the German Maxim Rehm (Ricky Flynn/Kosmic-Vortex) at 75.

Costoya is the new leader of MINI

The challenge is tight also in MINI that has a lot of strong title contenders. The lead of the standings is currently held by the Spanish driver Christian Costoya (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin/TM Racing) who totaled 127 points thanks to the win in La Conca from his teammate from Colombia Matias Orjuela, who was pipped at the flag by 0.009s. The winner in Adria from Holland René Lammers (Baby Race/Parolin-Iame) is second at 119 points and the Russian Gerasim Skulanov (CRG Racing Team/CRG-TM Racing) third at 114. The Pole Jan Przyrowsky (AV Racing/Parolin-TM Racing) is fourth at 107 points, Orjuela fifth at 88.

A few weeks ago, the German Kart Championship presented its innovative racing program for the 2021 season. But a few changes caused criticism among long-standing teams and drivers. The organizers took this to heart and adjusted the racing program once again. Among these adjustments are the lowering of the DMSB Shifterkart Cup registration fee as well as not merging the two shifterkart categories DSKM and DSKC.

The German Kart Championship has a long tradition and is going to celebrate its 60th anniversary next year. Ever since the beginnings, numerous motorsports stars have celebrated their first successes in the DKM and things should go on like this in the future. One of the most recent examples is Mick Schumacher: He rose from the DJKM and is going to celebrate his debut in the Formula 1 World Championship this year.

But the Corona pandemic causes uncertainty among the drivers and teams. The DKM team already adjusted to this in 2020 and is presenting an attractive program in 2021 again. Nonetheless, there was criticism among drivers and teams, which the people responsible for the DKM took to heart.

“It’s important to us to organize a Championship that makes the participants feel comfortable. We’ve received a lot of feedback these past weeks and talked about it within our team”, says series coordinator Stefan Wagner.

At the DMSB Shifterkart Cup, the registration fee is going to be lowered to 2.900€ again and is therefore on the same level as 2020. Every driver who is already registered is going to profit from this adjustment as well. At the same time, a possible merging of the shifterkart categories DSKM and DSKC was taken off the table. Both classes are going to take place in full at all five season races with their own ranked races.

An additional special regulation is going to affect the guest drivers at the season kick-off in Kerpen. They will get the chance to still register for the Championship fully until two weeks before the next race. The guest start is then going to be changed into a regular registration and the drivers will be entitled to their points. At the same time, the guest driver fee is going to be deducted from the registration fee.

There is going to be a new rookie sponsoring in the DJKM and DKM classes. The best rookie (DJKM: born in 2009; DKM: born in 2007) of the respective overall list of rankings will not have to pay the registration fee for the next year.

Due to the already tested and very extensive security- and hygiene-concept of the DKM, there is currently nothing standing in the way of the season kick-off in Kerpen.

“This is a positive signal for all drivers and teams. We’re excited to be able to already provide planning security here”, continues Wagner.

All in all, the racing calendar of the DKM consists of five racing weekends again with events in Kerpen, Wackersdorf, Genk (Belgium), Mülsen and Ampfing.

Key-Facts regarding DKM season 2021:

  • Registration for all classes possible until two weeks before a respective race.
  • Payment of registration fees for all classes (DKM, DJKM, DSKM and DSKC) until May 1st 2021.
  • No late fee for registrations after February 28th 2021.
  • Consistent registration fees of 3.200€ for DKM, DJKM and DSKM, as well as 2.900€ for DSKC.
  • Security- and hygiene-fee of 500€ (100 € per race weekend) per driver, which is going to be transmitted to the organizers in full for the implementation of the necessary concepts.
  • Individual ranking and ranked races for DSKM and DSKC classes.
  • Rookie sponsoring in the DJKM and DKM classes. The best rookie
  • (DJKM: born in 2009; DKM: born in 2007) won’t have to pay registration fee for the next season.
  • Guest drivers from Kerpen can still fully register for their class up until two weeks before the next race (Wackersdorf).  The results of the guest start are then going to count for points and the guest driver fee is going to be deducted from the registration fee.
  • Extensive security- and hygiene-concept provides planning security for racing events.

In perfect weather conditions, the last day of the Genk competition offered a high quality show to the fans of close racing from all over the world. In the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ, Stan Pex won the Final in front of Marijn Kremers who took the title. In the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2, the scenario was similar with the victory of David Trefilov and the crowning of Viktor Gustavsson. By winning the Final of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy, Connor Zilisch took a decisive option on the title.

Although the field had suffered from the infection-control constraints imposed by the renewed prevalence of COVID-19 in Europe, the FIA Karting competition at Genk kept its promises in terms of sporting intensity. Three beautiful Finals concluded the weekend of racing with their share of suspense and twists and turns. The first two European titles of the year were resolved in breathtaking battles followed via live streaming around the world while the Academy Trophy is still in the process of determining its next winner.

KREMERS WINS THE KZ TITLE

The challenge wasn’t easy for Marijn Kremers (NLD – Ricciardo Kart/TM Racing/Vega) at the beginning of the Final, because he had to get a good result while his rivals couldn’t score many points. Stan Pex (NLD – KR/TM Racing/Vega) complicated his task by taking the lead in the Final on the fifth lap. Jorrit Pex (NLD – KR/TM Racing/Vega) moved up to third place after taking back three places and it was further down the order that the Championship was being decided. After a bad start, one of the three protagonists, Alessandro Irlando (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega) came back to fifth position, before a spoiler penalty relegated him to seventh place. Simo Puhakka (FIN – Tony Kart/Vortex/Vega) finished 9th without being able to defend his chances. Kremers was in control of the race and didn’t need to attack Stan Pex who he followed closely from beginning to end. The Qualifying poleman Noah Milell (SWE – Tony Kart/Vortex/Vega) finished fourth in front of Adrien Renaudin (FRA – Sodi/TM Racing/Vega). Crowned FIA Karting World Champion – KZ in 2019, Kremers had planned to start this year in single-seaters, but after the interruption caused by the pandemic, he could not resist the proposal from the Birel ART Racing team to resume karting. A beautiful title of FIA Karting European Champion – KZ rewarded his first-rate performance in karting.

Final classification of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ
1- Marijn Kremers – 51 points
2- Alessandro Irlando – 45 points
3- Simo Puhakka – 41 points
4- Stan Pex – 37 points
5- Riccardo Longhi – 37 points

KZ2: VICTORY FOR TREFILOV, TITLE FOR GUSTAVSSON

Viktor Gustavsson (SWE – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega) took pole position in Qualifying but started only in fourth position on the grid for the Final of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 in Genk. He immediately moved up to second position behind the revelation of the meeting, David Trefilov (DEU – Maranello/TM Racing/Vega), whereas his main rival for the title, Simone Cunati (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega), who was initially third, dropped out after a crash. Another contender, Paavo Tonteri (FIN – Tony Kart/Vortex/Vega) also lost ground and finished ninth. Trefilov was able to enjoy his hour of glory as winner of the Final, whereas Gustavsson was satisfied with second place and took the title in the colours of the team Leclerc by Lennox Racing. Kristijan Habulin (HRV – TB Kart/TM Racing/Vega) was on the third step of the podium in front of Arthur Carbonnel (FRA – Sodi/TM Racing/Vega), who started last after a breakdown in a Qualifying Heat and climbed up 11 places in the Final. Despite coming back 12 places to fifth position, Giuseppe Palomba (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega) was not able to beat Trefilov in the Championship.

Final standings of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2
1- Viktor Gustavsson – 62 points
2- Simone Cunati – 38 points
3- David Trefilov – 35 points
4- Giuseppe Palomba – 35 points
5- Paavo Tonteri – 35 points

ZILISCH CONFIRMS HIS FORM IN THE ACADEMY TROPHY

Thanks to a superb Final that he led from start to finish, Connor Zilisch (USA) took an irreversible lead in the FIA Karting Academy Trophy. The race was again very lively. For a long time second, Macéo Capietto (FRA) couldn’t resist the impressive comeback of Theo Micouris (GBR) from seventh to second position. Nevertheless, the Frenchman moved up to second place in the classification before the expected conclusion at Lonato (ITA) at the beginning of October. Albin Stureson (SWE) made a remarkable debut in fourth place, whereas Rafael Modonese (PER) came back from 16th to fifth position in front of Zachary David (PHL), who was a great protagonist in the racing. Second at Adria, Maxime Furon-Castelain (LUX) had a difficult weekend which ended in 18th position with a spoiler penalty.

Provisional ranking of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy after the second competition at Genk
1- Connor Zilisch – 69 points
2- Macéo Capietto – 41 points
3- Jonathan Weywadt – 30 points
4- Maxime Furon-Castelain – 29 points
5- Alex Powell – 29 points

The Finn Simo Puhakka dominated KZ with two victories, while Jonathan Weywadt (DNK) and Connor Zilisch (USA) shared the lead in the Academy standings. Four Drivers stood out in KZ2: Danilo Albanese (ITA), Viktor Gustavsson (SWE), Simone Cunati (ITA) and Paavo Tonteri (FIN).

The weather was beautiful on Saturday, 15th August on the Adria circuit for a hot day dedicated to most of the Qualifying Heats for the first Competition of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ & KZ2 and the FIA Karting Academy Trophy.

This time, the weather remained fine all day with high temperatures. The Races were hard fought by highly motivated competitors, but overall very honest in their racing behaviour. The Qualifying phase will end at Sunday lunchtime with the last six heats of the programme before concentrating on the three Finals.

Advantage Puhakka in KZ

The day did not go as planned for the poleman Alessandro Irlando (ITA). Somehow, the starts were not in his favour. Simo Puhakka (FIN) won both Heats after leading from start to finish. Reigning World Champion Marijn Kremers (NLD) was 2nd ahead of Irlando in Heat 1, while Riccardo Longhi (ITA) finished 2nd in Heat 2. With the third and final Heat taking place on Sunday morning, Puhakka leads ahead of Kremers, Irlando, Longhi and Matteo Vigano (ITA).

KZ2: Viktor Gustavsson and Cunati in good shape

There was no shortage of battles during the seven Qualifying Heats contested today in the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2. There are three more to go on Sunday morning, two for Group B and one for the other groups, before the list of 36 Finalists is announced.

Viktor Gustavsson (SWE), Simone Cunati (ITA) and poleman Danilo Albanese (ITA) each won two Heats, while Paavo Tonteri (FIN) won once. Cunati and Gustavsson are currently leading the provisional standings, but the Swede has two more races to go on Sunday morning. Albanese lost a lot of ground with a mechanical retirement while Tonteri remained in the leading group with Giuseppe Palomba (ITA) and Leonardo Marseglia (ITA).

Academy Trophy: Zilisch joins Weywadt

With four Heats and four different winners, the FIA Karting Academy Trophy keeps its promise of equality with its Exprit chassis, the Vortex engines regularly exchanged between the first and the last, and Vega ‘Option’ tyres.

Starring this Saturday, Jonathan Weywadt (DNK), poleman Keanu Al Azhari (ARE), Maxime Furon Castelain (LUX) and Connor Zilisch (USA) took a victory each. The Luxembourger distinguished himself by setting the fastest time of his two Heats of the day. Weywadt remained the leader, tied on points with Zilisch, who moved up seven positions. Furon Castelain was 3rd with the same score as Macéo Capietto (FRA), who took two strong 2nd places. Alex Powell (JAM) dropped back to 5th position ahead of Al Azhari, delayed by his 6th place in the second Heat and was tied with Tom Braeken (BEL). Oscar Wurz (AUT) was 5th in the Timed Qualifying session, but dropped back to 13th.

Italian driver Matteo De Palo, who set the 14th fastest time, lost ground due to a front fairing penalty and ended up in 20th place. All the participants will start their last Heat on Sunday morning to decide the positions on the grid for the Final.

The Friday, 14th August initially experienced stifling temperatures and high humidity. The approach of a storm delayed the running of the FIA Karting Competition in Adria a few minutes before the start of Qualifying Practice. The programme resumed after a one-hour break, in much cooler weather. In the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ, Irlando (ITA) took pole position, while Albanese (ITA) dominated the KZ2 category and Al Azhari (ARE) was the fastest in the FIA Karting Academy Trophy.

The new racing format introduced by the CIK-FIA found a favourable response in the Adria paddock. The vast majority of the teams are convinced by the limitation of official Free Practice sessions to Friday only, just before the start of Qualifying. The reduced tyre budget is clearly appreciated by the whole paddock and the three sessions in each category were very well attended.

The Adria Karting Raceway hosts the first Competition of the FIA European Karting Championship – KZ & KZ2, as well as the FIA Karting Academy Trophy from 13th to 16th August. The Competition promises to be a tough one on the 1302 m Italian track, known to be demanding for Drivers, equipment and tyres in any circumstances. With the high ambient heat in this scorching mid-August and increasing humidity, conditions are even more difficult for the 115 Drivers racing in the Veneto region.

Shortly before the start of the Qualifying Practice, a strong wind, a serious threat of rain and thunderstorms nearby necessitated a one-hour interruption to the programme. The storm gradually moved away from the circuit. By the time the action resumed, the asphalt was still dry, but the air temperature had dropped by almost ten degrees.

KZ: Great pole position for Irlando

Francesco Celenta (ITA) had set the fastest time in the first Free Practice session, but Alessandro Irlando (ITA) kept up the pace in the final session after the stormy period. Marijn Kremers (NLD) was already in the leading group with Fabian Federer (ITA) and Riccardo Longhi (ITA).

During the Qualifying session, Irlando was on the rise to finish in pole position with a remarkable last lap of 47”720 which put him 0.121” ahead of Simo Puhakka (FIN). Kremers was in 3rd place just three hundredths behind the runner-up. Lorenzo Camplese (ITA) was 4th ahead of Longhi. Federer had to settle for 13th and Jorrit Pex (NLD) was unable to complete a single lap.

“I gave my all to be in front in the Timed Qualifying session,” explained Irlando. “I know this track well and I know that it is not always easy to overtake in KZ. As I want to do better this season than in 2019, I did everything I could to take pole position to start this Competition.”

KZ2: Albanese makes the difference

Danilo Albanese (ITA) had dominated the three Free Practice sessions of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 on the Adria circuit. Viktor Gustavsson (SWE), Natalia Balbo (ITA), Paavo Tonteri (FIN) and Giacomo Pollini (ITA) were also among the most prominent Drivers.

Albanese confirmed his level of performance with a lap time of 47.412 on pole position in the second session, followed by Viktor Gustavsson (SWE) a tenth of a second further. 3rd place went to Session 1 leader Tonteri, with Gisueppe Palomba (ITA) two-tenths off pole position then Simone Cunati (ITA), the fastest of the third session.

“I’m very happy to have been the fastest after all the development work I’ve done alongside Dino Chiesa,” said Albanese. “It’s very rewarding to be on pole with a Kart Republic chassis and I’m looking forward to continuing this pace all the way to the Final.”

FIA Karting Academy Throphy: Al Azhari on pole position

The Dane Jonathan Weywadt was particularly fast during the Free Practice sessions of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy. Rafael Modonese (PER), Matteo De Palo (ITA), Oscar Wurz (AUT) and Ariel Elkin (ISR) were also among the Drivers to watch.

Alex Powell (JAM) was clearly the fastest in Qualifying Practice, and was the fastest in Session 1. However, it was Keanu Al Azhari (ARE) who took pole position – 50”499 – in Session 2, almost a tenth ahead of Weywadt. Maxime Furon Castelain was 4th ahead of Wurz.

“I am very proud to have achieved pole position in the first Competition of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy for the United Arab Emirates”, confided the young Al Azhari. “It is an honour for me to represent my country.”

110 drivers from Europe started into the new season of the German Kart Championship last weekend (August 7th – 9th) and experienced a red-hot battle. Winners Kris Haanen (DJKM), Kas Haverkort (DKM), Jorrit Pex, Fabian Federer (both DSKM) and Julian Müller (DSKC) kept the coolest heads.

After a long wait, the German Kart Championship finally started again in Kerpen and a highlight was waiting right at the start. The traditional Erftlandring was the location of the first event of the season in an unusual season. The worldwide Corona-pandemic posed new challenges to the DKM and its grade series.

DJKM: Dutchman Kris Haanen wins twice

The racing Saturday was dominated by Herolind Nuredini (KSM Official Racing Team). In his first full season of the German Junior Kart Championship, the driver from Lower Saxony secured pole position for both heats.

He was unstoppable during these as well: He achieved both victories and thereby the best starting position for the first final race on Sunday. He lost his top position early on during the race over 18 laps though.

Kris Haanen (SFR Motorsport) drove past him and kept his pursuers at bay until the finish line. Behind the leading duo there was a narrow fight for the remaining places on the podium until the end of the race though.

In the end, Daniel Guinchard (SFR Motorsport) came in third in front of Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen (RS Competition) and Kiano Blum (TB Racing Team). The latter was on third place for a long time, but lost two positions during the last laps.

After his victory at the first race, Haanen aimed for the double victory in the second final. But things didn’t go easy for him. In the beginning, he kept switching positions with his team mate Guinchard.

German Nuredini came out on top against Guinchard and came in second again. Fourth winner Kiano Blum experienced a lonely race. He gained his position early on and ended up in the cup ranks again. Things were a lot narrower in the fight for fifth place: Seven juniors fought for the position. In the end, Tom Braeken (SP Motorsport) came out on top.

Championship ranking DJKM after 2 of 8 races:
1. Kris Haanen (65 points)
2. Herolind Nuredini (60 points)
3. Daniel Guinchard (38 points)
4. Kiano Blum (34 points)
5. Tom Braeken (28 points)

DKM: double victory for Kas Haverkort

Moritz Wiskirchen (TB Racing Team) caused the first surprise of the year on his home track. He kept all opponents at bay during qualifying and the heats and secured pole position for the race on Sunday morning.

He highlighted that his success the previous day was not just a flash in the pan during the first final race. He set the pace at the front of the field until shortly before the end of the race. He didn’t win though.

The Junior Champion 2017 Kas Haverkort (SFR Motorsport) found a way past him and won in front of Wiskirchen. The best rookie Daniel Gregor (Junior Team75 Bernhard) followed on third place.

Another junior rookie took fourth place: Fabio Rauer (KSM Official Racing Team). A spoiler penalty threw him back in the end though. New fourth driver was Emil Tanggard (HK Motorsport) in front of Luca Griggs (SFR Motorsport). Unlucky drivers of the race were Juliano Holzem (SFR Motorsport) and Niels Tröger (Mach1 Motorsport). Both of them had to end the race prematurely on a top three position.

Uncompleted results for the Holzem twins in the DKM season opener

Haverkort set the pace from pole position during the second race. Throughout the entire race he kept a safe distance to his opponents and took the victory once again. Behind the SFR Motorsport driver things were quite dramatic. Numerous drivers had to forfeit the race due to technical defects, among them fastest driver of qualifying Wiskirchen.

TB Racing-duo Juho Valtanen and Ben Dörr drove the races very securely though. Both fought their ways forward after bad luck on Saturday and completed the top three. Just like in the first race, Gregor and Griggs ended up in the cup ranks.

Meisterschaftsstand DKM nach 2 von 8 Läufen:
1. Kas Haverkort (55 points)
2. Moritz Wiskirchen (40 points)
3. Daniel Gregor (36 points)
4. Juho Valtanen (27 points)
5. Luca Griggs (27 points)

After the successful kick-off weekend, the German Kart Championship is already going to continue in three weeks.

Among the objectives, recovering the postponed races considering also the chance of two events per weekend and sanitary safety through a protocol to allow  the restart of WSK Championships.

Waiting for the restart of competitions, WSK Promotion is working to recover the season that has been compromised by the lasting lockdown following the Covid-19 emergency that has stopped working activities and sporting events.

Among the initiatives of WSK Promotion, a calendar featuring some double events in a “long” weekend at some appointments is being investigated. This would allow a recovery of the rounds postponed at the beginning of season 2020.

The objective targeted by WSK Promotion is to get back on track as soon as possible without compromising the sanitary safety of all participants, teams, drivers and staff. Recently, WSK Promotion has been discussing with the Federation to devise a protocol allowing the restart. The new calendar will be defined shortly to complete the WSK Super Master Series that was interrupted after the opening races in Adria and Lonato, and to run the WSK Euro Series, WSK Open Cup and WSK Final Cup.

W Series’ Sarah Moore joins ROTAX Winter Cup livestream team

The forthcoming ROTAX Max Challenge Winter Cup, which takes place at Circuito Karting Campillos between the 21st and 23rd of February, will have a very special guest, who will be one of two new additions to the livestream team for the ROTAX Max Euro Trophy for the 2020 season.

W Series racer and Racing Pride ambassador Sarah Moore will be heading to the 1,580-metre CIK-FIA homologated circuit, acting as both racing analyst and pit lane reporter.

The Briton has secured championship glory during her lengthy career, which included karting, where she also raced in the ROTAX ranks, competing in the Stars of Tomorrow national championship in 2007 and 2008 in the Mini Max class. Moore also won the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2009 and the Britcar Endurance Championship GT4 endurance title with Matt Greenwood for Tockwith Motorsport, racing in the Ginetta G50 GT4.

“I’m pleased that Sarah will be alongside me at the forthcoming Winter Cup, which is looking to be a fantastic way to kick start the 2020 Euro Trophy season, that has over 250 competitors from almost 30 different nations who will head to southern Spain,” admitted Alex Goldschmidt, official Euro Trophy commentator, who is looking forward to working with Sarah in southern Spain.

“With a varied career over multiple disciplines, she will bring an interesting and exciting new dynamic to the event, which I am looking forward to finding out about in southern Spain.”

“It’s great to get back to the root of how my career started, when I jumped into karting at a young age, and it really helped me develop into the driver I am today,” admitted Moore, who is one of the 12 returning drivers for the second season of W Series, which gets underway at Russia’s Igora Drive circuit in late May and will conclude

Sarah is also a very active member within the LGBTQ+ community, which includes her ongoing work with Racing Pride, a UK-based initiative founded by Richard Morris and Christopher Sharp, that is spreading the word about further inclusivity with motorsport.

“To be asked to be a part of the Winter Cup and work in motorsport in a completely different aspect is an exciting challenge, and it is great to able to represent W Series and Racing Pride here, to help spread the word about how motorsport is changing, with many people knowing that we have to #RethinkRacing.”

Along with Sarah, Silverstone-based commentator and presenter Anthony Jordan will also be joining the Euro Trophy livestream, working alongside Alex Goldschmidt as the official pit lane reporter for all four rounds of the main campaign, which commences on April 10th, 2020, at Belgium’s legendary Karting Genk circuit, based in the Limburg region.

Having worked in the UK motorsport scene for the past few seasons in both two and four-wheel racing categories, the Briton will bring his own style to the ROTAX Max Euro Trophy broadcast platforms, which are provided by both promoter Camp Company GmbH and Downforce Radio, who becomes the dedicated audio stream partner for 2020.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the ROTAX Max Euro Trophy for 2020,” admitted Jordan, who is looking forward to a new step in his career, as it will be his first assignment in Europe..

“I can’t wait to be in the paddock, getting to know the drivers, teams and make new friends and memories. To be a part of this championship for the forthcoming season is definitely a step up, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Further developments for the forthcoming Winter Cup include an increase in the maximum amount of allocated grid slots for the Senior Max class, which has now been bolstered to 90 from the original 72 mandated, which will also mean that Qualifying Practice will get underway at 1630 CET on the Friday afternoon.

LONATO (BRESCIA, ITALY), OCTOBER 27TH , 2019

HARD-FOUGHT FINALS AT THE WSK OPEN CUP IN LONATO. Victory for Palomba in KZ2, while all others categories will cross the finish line in Castelletto (Pavia, Italy). He definitely wins the KZ2 single round of the WSK Open Cup. The Dutch driver Senna Van Valstijn (KR-TM), managing to overcome Alessio Lorandi from Brescia, finishes third. In the final ranking, Lorandi stays third below Palomba and Pollini.

TSOLOV RECOVERS AND GAINS VICTORY IN 60 MINI. In the 60 Mini Final, the Bulgarian driver Nikola Tsolov gains back the leadership achieved in the practice and after winning the Prefinal B, starts in pole position and takes immediately the lead. Behind him, positions chance significantly. The Team Hong Kong concluded its partnership with CRG on a high at the IAME International Final of Le Mans where Kenneth Chung clinched the title of Best Veteran in the X30 Master class! Fired up by their own personal experiences on and off the track, Dick Yu and Michael Yuen already look forward to a possible comeback in 2020!

It has been a long and busy week for Team Kong Kong in their first appearance with the official CRG Factory Team at the IAME International Final. While Dick Yu showed great skills fighting his way through the Senior field until the penultimate day of competition, Michael Yuen concluded his maiden experience in France in the Junior class’ Final C with Kenneth Chung competing in the Masters’ final race where he finished as best Veteran of the week!

Qualified for the Prefinal of the X30 Master class on Saturday morning, Kenneth made again good use of his strong pace showed through the Qualifying Heats and climbed the field in still slippery track conditions that didn’t stop him from overtaking lots of other drivers. Confidence was at its highest heading for the ultimate race of the week where he delivered another well-managed performance during 21 laps against fierce opposition. Still, Kenneth kept his head down and reached the chequered flag as the ‘Best Veteran’ of the category!

At the end of a long week of on-track activity sometimes made tricky by the changing conditions, the most experienced member of the trio eventually found what he had come looking for in Le Mans! As the fastest of all Veteran drivers in the Competition, he could celebrate his achievement on the IAME International Final’s podium along with the other winners of the Master class, cheered by his teammates and friends who had made the long trip from Hong Kong to support their adventure!

Kenneth Chung: “I feel very happy but also lucky after such a tough race! I’ve been here [at Le Mans, ed.] for 11 days, I left my job, the family, my parents to be able to compete and I finally made it. I’d like to thank my Grand Ma. She sadly left us recently but I could feel that she was watching me from Heaven, protecting me when I was driving. That victory is for her too.”

Despite his IAME International Final journey coming to an early end on Friday, Dick Yu will retain the many positives from his fourth participation in IAME X30’s biggest race where he showed the extent of his skills in all conditions against lots of drivers with different driving styles in the Senior category filled with 135 participants.

It turned out again to be a much-enriching experience for the 16-year-old as he hopes to be able to apply those lessons in a possible comeback in 2020!

Dick Yu“It was good to be able to fight with drivers and teams from different countries. Although the end result is far from my initial expectations, it’s not often that I get to learn new driving skills from the battles I had in both dry and wet conditions. If there’s another possibility for me to come back next year, I hope I’ll be able to improve on my results!”

As the youngest driver of the team, Michael Yuen was facing a huge task of having to discover everything in Le Mans from the circuit and the rivals to the requirements of such a high-level competition. The 13-year-old, who only had six months of experience behind the wheel prior to the race, showed a strong maturity for his young age while his improving pace helped him find his marks within the Junior field. As a result, he crossed the chequered flag of all his races from his opening heat until Final C. As his initial target of gaining as much experience as possible was fully met, Michael already looks forward, like his fellow teammate, to the next season with the ambition of coming back to Le Mans and make the next step in his progression!

Michael Yuen: “Despite a weekend of ups and downs with results not as I anticipated, it was a very valuable experience for me to come to Le Mans! These weather conditions were changing all the time, going from wet to dry, but it was also enriching to fight against and learn from those drivers in those tricky conditions. You don’t normally get this sort of experience in China or Asia. Therefore, if it’s possible for me to come here next year, I hope I can fight for a higher position and learn even more! I would also like to thank Creative Secondary School for their kindness to support this adventure!”

The Team Hong Kong (CRG) would like to thank once again the following partners whose collaboration has been a crucial factor in the making of their participation in the IAME International Final: Hong Kong Kart Club, Oasis Tech Company, CRG Factory, Hong Kong Karters Union, X’zuit and CRG China Dealer Rita Chung.

It was the big final of the German Kart Championship this season. 149 drivers from all over the world started on the Schweppermannring in Ampfing and fought for the coveted victories in very mixed weather. The championship titles finally went to Harry Thompson (DKM), Robert De Haan (DJKM), Stan Pex (DSKM) and Senna Van Walstijn (DSKC).

Mid-April, the kick-off to the new DKM season took place in Italian Lonato. From there, the drivers from more than 25 countries travelled through Germany, Italy and Belgium. The locations in Wackersdorf, Kerpen and Genk followed. The final event now took place in Bavarian Ampfing. Next to thrilling fights for the titles, the weather also made things difficult for the drivers. Things were especially challenging on Saturday: Stormy rain showers caused difficult conditions on the 1.063m long track. For the first time, the 1st Kart Club Munich e.V. was responsible for the organization.

The duels for the championship were in focus. In all four grade series, no decisions had been made yet. The ranked races went accordingly interesting. On Sunday evening, Harry Thompson (DKM), Robert De Haan (DJKM), Stan Pex (DSKM) and Senna Van Walstijn (DSKC) were able to rejoice about the championship titles.

Racing action via internet live-stream

The races were once again accompanied by extensive coverage of the German Kart Championship. There were more than 16 hours of live images from Bavaria; all races are going to be accessible on the YouTube-channel of the DKM in full length shortly. There will also be extensive post-coverage on the DKM-website and the social media channels.

Half-time of the German Electric Kart Championship

The German Electric Kart Championship took place again as well. Drivers from eight nations started at the next-to-last event of the year. The victories were shared by Luka Wlömer and Jasin Ferati. The season finale of the first pure electric kart racing series in the world is going to take place in two weeks within the framework of the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in Italian Sarno.

DKM: Harry Thompson achieves defending his title

In the German Kart Championship, four drivers still had chances of winning the title before the final: Hugo Sasse (TB Racing Team), Lorenzo Travisanutto (CV Performance Group), Harry Thompson (Ricky Flynn Motorsport) and Kas Haverkort (Kartshop Ampfing). At qualifying and the heats, none of these names could be found at the front of the field though. Felix Arnold (Kartshop Ampfing) drove to pole position on the home track of his new team. In the heats, Hannes Janker (TB Racing Team) then fought his way to the top during his DKM-comeback.

Thrilling fights dominated the final races on Sunday. During the first race, Janker and Alexander Tauscher (Junior Team75) fought for the leading position. At the finish line, Tauscher came in first and celebrated his first victory of the season. Behind Janker, the three favorites Travisanutto, Haverkort and Thompson followed. British Harry Thompson fought his way forward from 17th position to the top five. Sasse stayed in the fight for the title as well, on seventh place.

The final title decision was made in the season race. Janker won the start, but Thompson fought his way to the front and drove towards the title. He wasn’t fazed by a short racing break either: “It was a tough weekend for us. Everyone gave their best and wanted the title. It’s great to have won for the second time. We’ll see what else is still in store.” Behind him, Sebastian Ögaard (WARD Racing) fought his way forward to second place.

The further ranks were mixed up after the race due to several time penalties. In the end, Luca Griggs (Kartshop Ampfing) was counted third in front of Leandro Anderrüti (RS Schumacher Racing Team) and Travisanutto. German Hugo Sasse fell back to twelfth position and achieved the vice championship, just as in 2018.

Final Championship ranking DKM:
1. Harry Thompson (184 points)
2. Hugo Sasse (179 points)
3. Lorenzo Travisanutto (174 points)
4. Kas Haverkort (152 points)
5. Alexander Tauscher (130 points)

DJKM: Robert De Haan becomes Junior Champion

Since the start of the season in Lonato, Robert De Haan (Energy Corse S.R.L.) is leading the overall list of rankings of the German Junior Kart Championship and didn’t give it away at the final event in Ampfing as well. His pursuer Christian Ho (Ricky Flynn Motorsport) tried everything to take away the title from the Dutchman. Ho led the field during qualifying and both heats.

From pole position, the driver from Singapur was unstoppable during the first final race as well and kept the fight for the title theoretically open due to his victory. Behind second driver Martinus Kleve Stenshorne (KR Motorsport s.r.l.) De Haan followed on third place. The Dutchman drove on a safe second place until a slow phase, but then had to let the young Norwegian pass him by.

In the fight for the remaining top five places, Levente Révész (KR Motorsport s.r.l.) and German Daniel Gregor (Junior Team75) prevailed. The latter received a spoiler penalty after the end of the race though and was only ranked tenth. His position was taken by Calle Bergman (WARD Racing) from Sweden.

Kick-off winner Christian Ho led the second final race for a long time as well. De Haan kept really close though, drove past the Ricky Flynn-driver during the last lap and won the race. At the same time, he became the DJKM-Champion 2019.

“I’m really happy to have won. This was a tough year, in which I learned a lot. I’d really like to thank everyone who accompanied and supported me in this success”, rejoiced De Haan in his winner’s interview. Ho followed on second place in front of Stenshorne and Révész. Gregor showed an impressive catching-up race in front of his team leader and LeMans-winner Timo Bernhard and finished the race on fifth place.

Final Championship ranking DJKM:

1. Robert De Haan (247 points)
2. Christian Ho (236 points)
3. Jakob Bergmeister (143 points)
4. Levente Révész (130 points)
5. Luca Leistra (126 points)

DSKM: Changing of the guard for the Pex family – Stan wins title

Stan Pex (SP Motorsport) already had a considerable advance in the German Shifterkart Championship before the final on the 1.063m long track in Upper Bavaria and turned up the heat during the course of the weekend. On Saturday, the lead at qualifying and the heats belonged to his brother Jorrit Pex (SP Motorsport). The six-time DSKM-champion was at the front of the field and then also achieved the victory at the first final race on Sunday.

During this, he had to fend off severe attacks by Stan and Benjamin Tornquvist Persson (CRG Holland). Both drivers were temporarily in the lead too, but only came in second and third at the finish line. Then-Champion Fabian Federer (SRP Racing Team) and Emilien Denner (CPB Sport) followed on the remaining places.

Federer caused joy for the SRP Racing Team in the end again then. The South Tyrolean raced forward to first place and celebrated his second victory of the season. Stan Pex came in second and thereby achieved the seventh DMSB-title for the Pex family. “We’ve worked really hard for this success and showed a good performance this weekend as well. Now we’re already looking towards 2020 and aren’t going to take a break during winter time”, he gave an outlook on the future after a well-deserved shower with sparkling wine.

The top three was completed by Denner, followed by Jorrit Pex and most successful German driver André Matisic (Solgat Motorsport). After a lot of bad luck during the heats, the driver from Hamburg was on the last place and managed a great comeback on Sunday.

Final Championship ranking DSKM:

1. Stan Pex (235 points)
2. Jorrit Pex (188 points)
3. Fabian Federer (182 points)
4. Emilien Denner (143 points)
5. Riccardo Longhi (138 points)

DSKC: Fight between three, Senna Van Walstijn comes out on top

A trio consisting of Valentino Fritsch (BIREL ART RACING KSW), Senna Van Walstijn (SP Motorsport) and Davids Trefilovs (SRP Racing Team) fought for the championship title in the DMSB Shifterkart Cup. After Saturday, Van Walstijn from the Netherlands had the best chances. The protégé of Stan Pex’ racing team led the field consisting of 40 drivers. The field was then divided again for the two pre-finals and the 17 best respective drivers qualified for the big final. It was no surprise that the victories were shared between two title favorites: Van Walstijn and Trefilovs.

It then came to a direct exchange of blows in the final race over 24 laps. The two front runners directly drove away from their pursuers and fought for victory. Towards the middle of the race, Berlin resident Tefilovs achieved a small advance and won the race. It wasn’t enough to win the championship though. Second place was enough for Van Walstijn to jump to the top of the championship podium.

“The conditions during the final race weren’t easy today. I did it in the end though and would like to thank my team for their brilliant work this year. I’d also like to congratulate my team leader Stan Pex on his victory at the DSKM”, the Dutchman reflected on his debut season at the shifterkarts. Valentino Fritsch followed on third place in front of routine driver Andreas Schrangl and his team mate Robert Kindervater.

Final Championship ranking DSKC:

1. Senna Van Walstijn (198 points)
2. Davids Trefilovs (185 points)
3. Valentino Fritsch (167 points)
4. Robert Kindervater (110 points)
5. Konstantin Kapetanids (107 points)

The TB Racing Team won the title of the team ranking and was thereby rewarded for the successes during the course of the year. A successful 2019 season ended in Ampfing and the organizers are already excitedly looking forward to next year. “We’ve experienced a record year. We already noted a high interest in January and even extended the field of the DSKC to 51 drivers.

A big thank you to all drivers, teams, organizers and participants for their trust in our championship. I’d also like to congratulate all participants on their successes. Currently we’re already deep into planning the 2020 season and are going to present the racing calendar for the new season soon”, series coordinator Stefan Wagner summed up finally.

This weekend, the last decisions in the German Kart Championship are going to be made on the in Ampfing. 188 drivers from more than 20 nations are going to start in the five DMSB grade series, among them three current Kart World Champions. It hasn’t been this exciting in a while: All decisions are still to be made in all classes.

The 1.063m long track in Upper Bavaria has been a solid part of the German Kart Championship for a long time, but there is still going to be a premiere this time – for the first time, the 1st Kart Club Munich e.V. in the ADAC is going to host a race in the highest German kart racing series.

With 188 drivers, the participants‘ interest is again really high at the season final as well. A high-class field from more than 20 nations is going to start in Ampfing. Among them are

Thomas Ten Brinke, Lorenzo Travisanutto and Emilien Denner, three brandnew Kart World Champions.

Fights for the titles in focus

The fights for the titles in the four classes DKM, DJKM, DSKM and DSKC are going to be in focus. There are still three Championship-aspirants in the top class. German Hugo Sasse (TB Racing Team) is currently leading the championship. But in consideration of the void results, his pursuers Harry Thompson (Ricky Flynn Motorsport) and Lorenzo Travisanutto (CV Performance Group) are close behind.

There is going to be a duel at the juniors between Robert De Haan (Energy Corse) and Christian Ho (Ricky Flynn Motorsport). De Haan has won five races so far; at the last event in Genk, Ho was unstoppable though and thereby got back in the pursuing role. The best German driver Jakob Bergmeister (Millennium Racing Team) is still fighting for a place among the top three in Ampfing.

The two shifterkart-classes are divided. While in the DSKM, Stan Pex (SP Motorsport) is on the best way to the title, three drivers are still fighting for the cup in the DMSB Shifterkart Cup. Leading driver Valentino Fritsch (BirelArt Racing KSW) impressed with a high consistency so far – he hasn’t won a ranked race in 2019, but always gained high points. His pursuers Senna Van Walstijn (SP Motorsport) and Davids Trefilovs (SRP Racing Team) have already won races on the other hand and can still overtake the Upper Palatine resident Fritsch.

German Electric Kart Championship (DEKM)‘s semi-final

Contrary to the other participants, the pioneers of the German Electric Kart Championship are only going to start at their semi-final in Ampfing. Drivers from eight nations are going to start at the first pure Electric Kart racing series in the world. After a four-time victory by Jasin Ferati in Belgian Genk, the field at the top has gotten really close. Currently, Luca Wlömer is leading the overall list of rankings with 186 points, but his pursuers are close behind. First and foremost Swiss Ferati: He is only 22 points behind the German. Joel Sturm on third place also still lies in waiting – he is 46 points behind the leading driver.

Extensive reportage during both racing days

The viewers and fans of the German Kart Championship can look forward to an extensive coverage of the season final again. On Saturday and Sunday, more than 16 hours are going to be broadcast via live-stream on www.kart-dm.de. At the same time, there are going to be numerous postings on the social-media-channels and the new YouTube-channel of the German Kart Championship.

Qualifying is going to start on Saturday at 10:35am; the heats are going to start after the lunch break at 1:40pm. The 34 best respective drivers are then going to enter the finals and are going to fight for the crucial championship points on Sunday from 9:30am.
