(FIA Karting European Championship)

The first of two FIA Karting European Championship events – KZ & KZ2, as well as the first of three FIA Karting Academy Trophy events will take place from 17th-20th June 2021 in Germany at the ProKart Raceland circuit in Wackersdorf.

Germany is a prime destination for this third FIA Karting event of the year. The 1222m track, demanding for both karts and drivers, is renowned for both its selectivity and the spectacle it generates. The rigorous organization of the Wackersdorf team is particularly appreciated in these times of health crisis complementing the FIA control protocol. The live internet broadcast on Saturday and Sunday allows a large global audience to follow the exciting competition ahead.

The total attendance of the event is at an excellent level with over 175 entries from 53 countries from all five continents, which is close to a record. While the big names in KZ will be there, the KZ2 category has a remarkable field of over 100 drivers, including some significant transfers from the direct-drive categories. The maximum number of 51 drivers was quickly reached in the FIA Karting Academy Trophy. The three categories racing in Wackersdorf will all be equipped with MG Tires.

KZ, the domain of the professionals

The FIA Karting European Championship – KZ brings together 26 participants, three quarters of whom raced in 2020. There is no shortage of drivers with previous titles, with five former World Champions and five European Champions competing for the 2021 title, as well as two winners of the FIA Karting International Super Cup – KZ2.

Crowned last year, Frenchman Jérémy Iglesias and Dutchman Marijn Kremers, could well continue to compete with Alessandro Irlando (ITA), Simo Puhakka (FIN), Stan Pex (NLD) and Riccardo Longhi (ITA), who were all in the European top five in 2020. A dozen other well-known drivers will join the battle, in addition to two young rising stars from KZ2, Émilien Denner (FRA) and Viktor Gustafsson (SWE). Former Spanish Formula 1 driver Jaime Alguersuari will make his return to competition. I have finished 9th in the CIK-FIA KZ World Championship in 2013.

KZ2: over 100 drivers for the opening round

The FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 is full to the brim in Wackersdorf with 102 entries including 14 wild cards. The race for the title is likely to involve around twenty experienced drivers, but it would not be surprising if some new names appeared at the top of the ranking.

Dutchman Senna Van Walstijn is one of the favorites in Wackersdorf, together with Germans David Trefilov, Valentino Fritsch and Alexander Schmitz. The Italians are also present in force: Giuseppe Palomba, Danilo Albanese, Alessio Piccini and Giacomo Pollini undoubtedly have their chances, as well as Matteo Zanchi. Other experienced drivers like Jorge Pescador (ESP), Paavo Tonteri (FIN), Kristijan Habulin (HRV) and Andrea Dale (ITA) should be able to obtain good results.

In a new development, several drivers have made the step up from OK or even OK-Junior to KZ2 this year. Lorenzo Travisanutto (ITA), the double OK World Champion in 2018 and 2019, Kajus Siksnelis (LTU), winner of the 2019 FIA Karting Academy Trophy, Jamie Day (ARE), Laurens Van Hoepen (NLD), Markus Kajak (EST), Luca Leistra (BEL), Hugo Sasse (DEU) are all in this category. Some of them even have a double OK / KZ2 program this season, like Juho Valtanen (FIN) or James Wharton (AUS).

12th season of the Academy

The FIA Karting Academy Trophy is successfully continuing its mission to detect young talent from around the world for the twelfth consecutive year. The Exprit / Vortex one-design karts with MG Tires will allow the 51 participants from 50 nations from all five continents to compete on equal terms from the first event in Wackersdorf.

Four drivers will be competing in their second season in the Academy, including Belgian Tom Braeken and Oscar Wurz from Monaco, who are determined to achieve good results this year. Augustin Bernier (FRA), Dion Gowda (SGP), Maciej Gladysz (POL), Lucas Fluxa Cross (ESP), Mark Kastelic (SVN), Oleksandr Bondarev (UKR), Salim Hanna (COL) and Leo Robinson (DZA) are all coming in with a wealth of international experience that should allow them to aim for the top spots. As always in this competition, we can also expect to see the revelation of little known talents. South African driver Tyler Jean Robinson, previously selected by the FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars program, will be the only female driver on the grid under the banner of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission.

CRG chassis brand is moving a lot in the karting drivers market. The Italian squad has confirmed the incorporation of the KZ world champion, Jeremy Iglesias, among other drivers.

The Italian brand faces 2021 recruiting great drivers to their line-up. This weekend, KZ world champion Jeremy Iglesias was confirmed as a new driver for CRG.

CRG in addition to this incorporation also announced Alex Irlando t o join the KZ team.

But the Italian brand not only strengthens in KZ, it also does so in OK. Arthur Rogeon leaves Exprit to join CRG where he will make his OK debut.

Declarations

Alex Irlando:

“The sporting record of the CRG Racing Team in the KZ classes is incredible and I am sure that we will be able to be competitive from the first races of 2021. I am in a moment of my career in what new incentives are fundamental and here at CRG I have found a highly motivated technical staff and ambitious projects. As for the engines, I am also very happy to continue my collaboration with TM, which has given me direct support for years and with whom I have shared all my successes and sporting choices.”

Arthur Rogeon:

“We chose to join CRG because it is one of the best teams ever in Karting, it boasts an incredible palmares, technical know-how and experience to win races as demonstrated with many champions who then went to motor racing. My goal for 2021 is above all to learn as much as possible, thanks to the support of the team’s technicians and gain experience to aim to win in 2022, when we will also consider a possible double commitment with the KZ category. Later I would like to move on to motoring, but now the focus is 100% on Karting and on this new phase of my career which will start with the tests in January and the first races in February.”

Another adventure is over, this time in the KZ categories, again in Lonato. It has been a very demanding weekend for all of us, with torrential rain pouring continuously for two days. Fortunately, the sun came out on Saturday afternoon and kept staying with us until the end of the finals on Sunday.

KR scored very good results in both KZ and KZ2! Danilo Albanese finished a very solid weekend in P5 in KZ2, gaining over 12 places from P17 on the grid! Very well done from him , with nice improvements from our KR chassis and Iame engine.
Stan Pex (KZ) finished in P6 from P15 on the grid, also scoring the fastest lap of the race; the Dutchman had been really competitive, especially in the heats, fast in booth wet and dry conditions. Unfortunately, he suffered an engine failure during one heat while fighting for the lead; that retirement costed him chances to aim at a top grid position for the final.
Mirko Torsellini also had a nice weekend, with consistent pace in all conditions, and finished in P8.

In this weekend in Lonato, KR also introduced a brand new modular brake balance system, an unprecedented mechanism in Karting.
The lever is positioned on the shifting lever itself and can move the brake balance to the rear, to help the driver in fast corners, when you don’t need strong brake force from the front axal; it easily comes back to position by simply pressing a button on the shifting lever.
Our drivers used this brand new system during the free practice and qualifying and will keep developing it for the next season.

We will be back on track in four weeks time, ready to fight for the OK/OKJ World Championship in Portimao, Portugal!

The FIA has released a statement regarding the World Karting Championship’s incident at Lonato which gathered strong reactions from motor racing community.

Nearly 24 hours since the incident, the FIA has released a brief statement of initiating investigation into the World Karting Championship’s clash at Lonato between karters Luca Corberi and Paolo Ippolito during and after the lead KZ category event.

On a day when Jeremy Iglesias became the first French winner in KZ – where even the likes of Antonio Fuoco and Petr Ptacek were competing – to take the 2020 Karting World Championship title, his win was overshadowed by an ugly incident between Corberi and Ippolito, which took place on and off the track.

The on-track incident took place between Lap 8-10 when 23-year-old Corberi was pushed off track at the tricky Turn 1 corner while the Italian was fighting for a Top 10 position. The actual collision wasn’t recorded as it only showed his kart into the barrier.

Moments later, he pulled the front fairing from his kart and waited for Ippolito to pass when he threw it onto him. Corberi wandered off into the parc ferme, when he had to be positioned inside the track and wait for the officials to take him and his kart.

Post-race, Corberi and his family charged against Ippolito and his family, as Iglesias celebrated his victory. Even the people from Tony Kart (from Corberi side) and CRG (from Ippolito) were involved as a huge scene was created then.

The social media was lit by then as the likes of Giedo van der Garde, Jenson Button, Zak Brown, Timo Bernhard and all voiced anger against the incident as they urged for bigger sanctions, especially from Felipe Massa, who is the FIA Karting President.

While ACI Sport released a statement earlier in the day, the FIA only did now. Both Ippolito and Corberi were disqualified, where the former was for the on-track incident and the latter for his conduct. “A bad and absolutely serious story,” read the statement from ACI Sport.

“An episode, perhaps unique, witnessed among other things by images that are going around the world, also because it took place during the world championship round of the KZ and KZ2 series scheduled on the South Garda track in Lonato in the province of Brescia.

“The Federation absolutely condemns what happened during and after the race and which saw two drivers, Paolo Ippolito and Luca Corberi, as protagonists. The Federation reserves every possible initiative against those who have become the protagonists of such a serious event to protect the image of this specialty and all the young drivers who are protagonists.”

Meanwhile the FIA said: “The FIA and ACI are deeply concerned by the disturbing events that occurred yesterday during the FIA Karting KZ World Championship in Lonato, Italy involving drivers, team members and track officials. The FIA has launched an immediate investigation in to the incidents.”

Having been silent since the incident took place, Massa finally posted his view on Instagram: “This behaviour is unacceptable in our sport. Those individuals will face the consequences of their action.”

UPDATE: Following the whole incident, Corberi released a statement talking about the incident and moving away from racing forever – the Italian racer deleted the post from Facebook after it went viral.

“I’d like to apologize to the motorsport comunity for what I’ve done,” wrote Corberi. “There are no excuses to explain why I’ve done such a disgraceful act, this has been something I’ve never done in my 15 years of career, and I really hope it won’t be seen by anybody else in the future.

“After the race, once I’ve been called by the sporting judges, I’ve asked them to take my licence away because I was fully conscius about my irreparable mistakes, but as they showed me, they don’t have the power for doing it, it’s written in the international rules, so please, don’t be against them, they were just doing their work in the best way they could.

“For this reason I’ve decided to don’t take part to any other motorsport competition for the rest of my life, that’s not a self justice, it’s simply the right thing to do. My family has been in karting since 1985, we’ve seen it grow, we’ve seen the best and the worst part of it. This episode will be remember as one of the worst in our sport and that’s something I’ll never forget.

“I’m not asking any indulgence, because I don’t deserve it. I will totally agree with the punishments required. I’m writing today to say sorry even if it’s not enough, because after all the bad things that happened during this event, the worst ever has been done by me, a guy who love this sport and after the worst day of his life will still rememeber his good racing memories. Thank you.”

In perfect weather conditions, the last day of the Genk competition offered a high quality show to the fans of close racing from all over the world. In the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ, Stan Pex won the Final in front of Marijn Kremers who took the title. In the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2, the scenario was similar with the victory of David Trefilov and the crowning of Viktor Gustavsson. By winning the Final of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy, Connor Zilisch took a decisive option on the title.

Although the field had suffered from the infection-control constraints imposed by the renewed prevalence of COVID-19 in Europe, the FIA Karting competition at Genk kept its promises in terms of sporting intensity. Three beautiful Finals concluded the weekend of racing with their share of suspense and twists and turns. The first two European titles of the year were resolved in breathtaking battles followed via live streaming around the world while the Academy Trophy is still in the process of determining its next winner.

KREMERS WINS THE KZ TITLE

The challenge wasn’t easy for Marijn Kremers (NLD – Ricciardo Kart/TM Racing/Vega) at the beginning of the Final, because he had to get a good result while his rivals couldn’t score many points. Stan Pex (NLD – KR/TM Racing/Vega) complicated his task by taking the lead in the Final on the fifth lap. Jorrit Pex (NLD – KR/TM Racing/Vega) moved up to third place after taking back three places and it was further down the order that the Championship was being decided. After a bad start, one of the three protagonists, Alessandro Irlando (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega) came back to fifth position, before a spoiler penalty relegated him to seventh place. Simo Puhakka (FIN – Tony Kart/Vortex/Vega) finished 9th without being able to defend his chances. Kremers was in control of the race and didn’t need to attack Stan Pex who he followed closely from beginning to end. The Qualifying poleman Noah Milell (SWE – Tony Kart/Vortex/Vega) finished fourth in front of Adrien Renaudin (FRA – Sodi/TM Racing/Vega). Crowned FIA Karting World Champion – KZ in 2019, Kremers had planned to start this year in single-seaters, but after the interruption caused by the pandemic, he could not resist the proposal from the Birel ART Racing team to resume karting. A beautiful title of FIA Karting European Champion – KZ rewarded his first-rate performance in karting.

Final classification of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ
1- Marijn Kremers – 51 points
2- Alessandro Irlando – 45 points
3- Simo Puhakka – 41 points
4- Stan Pex – 37 points
5- Riccardo Longhi – 37 points

KZ2: VICTORY FOR TREFILOV, TITLE FOR GUSTAVSSON

Viktor Gustavsson (SWE – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega) took pole position in Qualifying but started only in fourth position on the grid for the Final of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 in Genk. He immediately moved up to second position behind the revelation of the meeting, David Trefilov (DEU – Maranello/TM Racing/Vega), whereas his main rival for the title, Simone Cunati (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega), who was initially third, dropped out after a crash. Another contender, Paavo Tonteri (FIN – Tony Kart/Vortex/Vega) also lost ground and finished ninth. Trefilov was able to enjoy his hour of glory as winner of the Final, whereas Gustavsson was satisfied with second place and took the title in the colours of the team Leclerc by Lennox Racing. Kristijan Habulin (HRV – TB Kart/TM Racing/Vega) was on the third step of the podium in front of Arthur Carbonnel (FRA – Sodi/TM Racing/Vega), who started last after a breakdown in a Qualifying Heat and climbed up 11 places in the Final. Despite coming back 12 places to fifth position, Giuseppe Palomba (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega) was not able to beat Trefilov in the Championship.

Final standings of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2
1- Viktor Gustavsson – 62 points
2- Simone Cunati – 38 points
3- David Trefilov – 35 points
4- Giuseppe Palomba – 35 points
5- Paavo Tonteri – 35 points

ZILISCH CONFIRMS HIS FORM IN THE ACADEMY TROPHY

Thanks to a superb Final that he led from start to finish, Connor Zilisch (USA) took an irreversible lead in the FIA Karting Academy Trophy. The race was again very lively. For a long time second, Macéo Capietto (FRA) couldn’t resist the impressive comeback of Theo Micouris (GBR) from seventh to second position. Nevertheless, the Frenchman moved up to second place in the classification before the expected conclusion at Lonato (ITA) at the beginning of October. Albin Stureson (SWE) made a remarkable debut in fourth place, whereas Rafael Modonese (PER) came back from 16th to fifth position in front of Zachary David (PHL), who was a great protagonist in the racing. Second at Adria, Maxime Furon-Castelain (LUX) had a difficult weekend which ended in 18th position with a spoiler penalty.

Provisional ranking of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy after the second competition at Genk
1- Connor Zilisch – 69 points
2- Macéo Capietto – 41 points
3- Jonathan Weywadt – 30 points
4- Maxime Furon-Castelain – 29 points
5- Alex Powell – 29 points

The first Competition of the FIA European Karting Championship – KZ & KZ2 and the FIA Karting Academy Trophy concluded on the circuit of Adria (ITA) after an excellent day of racing. In sunny and warm weather, the last Qualifying Heats preceded the three Finals on Sunday 16th August 2020. The Swedish Driver Gustavsson dominated the KZ2 Final just as the young American Zilisch mastered the Academy Final. The outcome was more uncertain in KZ before the Italian Irlando secured victory after leading for the entire race.

Continuing the fight against Coronavirus with the strict application of the FIA sanitary protocol, the Adria Competition saw high temperatures, as well as a high standard of performance. The Adria Karting Raceway’s beautiful track, however, did not make it easy to overtake. The positions hardly changed over the laps, which does not take anything away from the achievement of the winners. Despite the heat, the Vega tyres did a good job on this track, which is known to be demanding on this point.

Irlando leads the KZ Final from start to finish

Alessandro Irlando (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega) showed his determination by winning the third and last Qualifying Heat, but Simo Puhakka (FIN – Tony Kart/Vortex/Vega) remained at the top of the standings. Despite being on pole position, the Finn would have to deal with two Italians at the start of the Final. Irlando took the lead immediately, followed by Matteo Vigano (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega). The three men would be together for 22 of the 24 laps of the race. The finish looked very close when Vigano seized with less than two laps to go. Puhakka struggled to avoid him, but managed to take 2nd place not far from the winner Irlando. Riccardo Longhi (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega) completed the podium while Marijn Kremers (NLD – Ricciardo Kart/TM Racing/Vega) was 4th and Fabian Federer (ITA – Maranello/TM Racing/Vega) moved up six places to 5th.

Provisional standings of the 2020 FIA Karting European Championship – KZ after the first Competition in Adria.

1- Alessandro Irlando – 34 points
2- Simo Puhakka – 30 points
3- Riccardo Longhi – 21 points
4- Marijn Kremers – 21 points
5- Noah Milell – 13 points

Gustavsson the master of KZ2

Viktor Gustavsson (SWE – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega) started the day in the best possible circumstances by winning his two Qualifying Heats, which ensured him pole position for the Final ahead of Simone Cunati (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega), Giuseppe Palomba (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/Vega) and Paavo Tonteri (FIN – Tony Kart/Vortex/Vega). The Final was to confirm the same hierarchy. Gustavsson was the fastest and won in the colours of the Leclerc by Lennox Racing team with a substantial lead of more than six seconds and the fastest lap in the race. The gap between Cunati, Palomba and Tonteri narrowed as the race approached the finish, but the positions on the line remained unchanged. Cunati was therefore the highest placed Italian. Tom Leuillet (FRA – Praga/TM Racing/Vega) completed the top five ahead of Davide De Marco (ITA – KR/IAME/Vega). Like two other Drivers, Danilo Albanese (ITA – KR/IAME/Vega) was late to the grid and was not allowed to start.

Provisional standings of the 2020 FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 after the first Competition in Adria.

1- Viktor Gustavsson – 35 points
2- Simone Cunati – 29 points
3- Giuseppe Palomba – 24 points
4- Paavo Tonteri – 20 points
5- Leonardo Marseglia – 15 points

Zilisch flies ahead of the Academy Final

Connor Zilisch (USA) started to make the difference in his last Qualifying Heat on Sunday morning. Zilisch’s victory took him to the top of the standings and he shared the front row of the Final with Maxime Furon Castelain (LUX). Although the latter dropped back to 5th position shortly after the start, Zilisch performed well up to the finish line, which he crossed as a strong winner with a lead of more than four seconds and the fastest lap. The fight was fierce behind him. Furon Castelain was able to move up to 2nd place ahead of Jonathan Weywadt (DNK), Macéo Capietto (FRA) in 4th and Rafael Modonese (PER) in 5th. 11th at the chequered flag, the Italian Matteo De Palo was 20th after penalties were applied.

Provisional ranking of the 2020 FIA Karting Academy Trophy after the first Competition in Adria.

1- Connor Zilisch – 35 points
2- Maxime Furon Castelain – 29 points
3- Jonathan Weywadt – 24 points
4- Macéo Capietto – 19 points
5- Alex Powell – 14 points

The three categories will meet in three weeks time for the conclusion of the FIA European Karting Championship – KZ & KZ2 and the second of the three FIA Karting Academy Trophy Competitions.

This time, the weather remained fine all day with high temperatures. The Races were hard fought by highly motivated competitors, but overall very honest in their racing behaviour. The Qualifying phase will end at Sunday lunchtime with the last six heats of the programme before concentrating on the three Finals.

Advantage Puhakka in KZ

The day did not go as planned for the poleman Alessandro Irlando (ITA). Somehow, the starts were not in his favour. Simo Puhakka (FIN) won both Heats after leading from start to finish. Reigning World Champion Marijn Kremers (NLD) was 2nd ahead of Irlando in Heat 1, while Riccardo Longhi (ITA) finished 2nd in Heat 2. With the third and final Heat taking place on Sunday morning, Puhakka leads ahead of Kremers, Irlando, Longhi and Matteo Vigano (ITA).

KZ2: Viktor Gustavsson and Cunati in good shape

There was no shortage of battles during the seven Qualifying Heats contested today in the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2. There are three more to go on Sunday morning, two for Group B and one for the other groups, before the list of 36 Finalists is announced.

Viktor Gustavsson (SWE), Simone Cunati (ITA) and poleman Danilo Albanese (ITA) each won two Heats, while Paavo Tonteri (FIN) won once. Cunati and Gustavsson are currently leading the provisional standings, but the Swede has two more races to go on Sunday morning. Albanese lost a lot of ground with a mechanical retirement while Tonteri remained in the leading group with Giuseppe Palomba (ITA) and Leonardo Marseglia (ITA).

Academy Trophy: Zilisch joins Weywadt

With four Heats and four different winners, the FIA Karting Academy Trophy keeps its promise of equality with its Exprit chassis, the Vortex engines regularly exchanged between the first and the last, and Vega ‘Option’ tyres.

Starring this Saturday, Jonathan Weywadt (DNK), poleman Keanu Al Azhari (ARE), Maxime Furon Castelain (LUX) and Connor Zilisch (USA) took a victory each. The Luxembourger distinguished himself by setting the fastest time of his two Heats of the day. Weywadt remained the leader, tied on points with Zilisch, who moved up seven positions. Furon Castelain was 3rd with the same score as Macéo Capietto (FRA), who took two strong 2nd places. Alex Powell (JAM) dropped back to 5th position ahead of Al Azhari, delayed by his 6th place in the second Heat and was tied with Tom Braeken (BEL). Oscar Wurz (AUT) was 5th in the Timed Qualifying session, but dropped back to 13th.

Italian driver Matteo De Palo, who set the 14th fastest time, lost ground due to a front fairing penalty and ended up in 20th place. All the participants will start their last Heat on Sunday morning to decide the positions on the grid for the Final.

The Friday, 14th August initially experienced stifling temperatures and high humidity. The approach of a storm delayed the running of the FIA Karting Competition in Adria a few minutes before the start of Qualifying Practice. The programme resumed after a one-hour break, in much cooler weather. In the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ, Irlando (ITA) took pole position, while Albanese (ITA) dominated the KZ2 category and Al Azhari (ARE) was the fastest in the FIA Karting Academy Trophy.

The new racing format introduced by the CIK-FIA found a favourable response in the Adria paddock. The vast majority of the teams are convinced by the limitation of official Free Practice sessions to Friday only, just before the start of Qualifying. The reduced tyre budget is clearly appreciated by the whole paddock and the three sessions in each category were very well attended.

The Adria Karting Raceway hosts the first Competition of the FIA European Karting Championship – KZ & KZ2, as well as the FIA Karting Academy Trophy from 13th to 16th August. The Competition promises to be a tough one on the 1302 m Italian track, known to be demanding for Drivers, equipment and tyres in any circumstances. With the high ambient heat in this scorching mid-August and increasing humidity, conditions are even more difficult for the 115 Drivers racing in the Veneto region.

Shortly before the start of the Qualifying Practice, a strong wind, a serious threat of rain and thunderstorms nearby necessitated a one-hour interruption to the programme. The storm gradually moved away from the circuit. By the time the action resumed, the asphalt was still dry, but the air temperature had dropped by almost ten degrees.

KZ: Great pole position for Irlando

Francesco Celenta (ITA) had set the fastest time in the first Free Practice session, but Alessandro Irlando (ITA) kept up the pace in the final session after the stormy period. Marijn Kremers (NLD) was already in the leading group with Fabian Federer (ITA) and Riccardo Longhi (ITA).

During the Qualifying session, Irlando was on the rise to finish in pole position with a remarkable last lap of 47”720 which put him 0.121” ahead of Simo Puhakka (FIN). Kremers was in 3rd place just three hundredths behind the runner-up. Lorenzo Camplese (ITA) was 4th ahead of Longhi. Federer had to settle for 13th and Jorrit Pex (NLD) was unable to complete a single lap.

“I gave my all to be in front in the Timed Qualifying session,” explained Irlando. “I know this track well and I know that it is not always easy to overtake in KZ. As I want to do better this season than in 2019, I did everything I could to take pole position to start this Competition.”

KZ2: Albanese makes the difference

Danilo Albanese (ITA) had dominated the three Free Practice sessions of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 on the Adria circuit. Viktor Gustavsson (SWE), Natalia Balbo (ITA), Paavo Tonteri (FIN) and Giacomo Pollini (ITA) were also among the most prominent Drivers.

Albanese confirmed his level of performance with a lap time of 47.412 on pole position in the second session, followed by Viktor Gustavsson (SWE) a tenth of a second further. 3rd place went to Session 1 leader Tonteri, with Gisueppe Palomba (ITA) two-tenths off pole position then Simone Cunati (ITA), the fastest of the third session.

“I’m very happy to have been the fastest after all the development work I’ve done alongside Dino Chiesa,” said Albanese. “It’s very rewarding to be on pole with a Kart Republic chassis and I’m looking forward to continuing this pace all the way to the Final.”

FIA Karting Academy Throphy: Al Azhari on pole position

The Dane Jonathan Weywadt was particularly fast during the Free Practice sessions of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy. Rafael Modonese (PER), Matteo De Palo (ITA), Oscar Wurz (AUT) and Ariel Elkin (ISR) were also among the Drivers to watch.

Alex Powell (JAM) was clearly the fastest in Qualifying Practice, and was the fastest in Session 1. However, it was Keanu Al Azhari (ARE) who took pole position – 50”499 – in Session 2, almost a tenth ahead of Weywadt. Maxime Furon Castelain was 4th ahead of Wurz.

“I am very proud to have achieved pole position in the first Competition of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy for the United Arab Emirates”, confided the young Al Azhari. “It is an honour for me to represent my country.”

W Series’ Sarah Moore joins ROTAX Winter Cup livestream team

The forthcoming ROTAX Max Challenge Winter Cup, which takes place at Circuito Karting Campillos between the 21st and 23rd of February, will have a very special guest, who will be one of two new additions to the livestream team for the ROTAX Max Euro Trophy for the 2020 season.

W Series racer and Racing Pride ambassador Sarah Moore will be heading to the 1,580-metre CIK-FIA homologated circuit, acting as both racing analyst and pit lane reporter.

The Briton has secured championship glory during her lengthy career, which included karting, where she also raced in the ROTAX ranks, competing in the Stars of Tomorrow national championship in 2007 and 2008 in the Mini Max class. Moore also won the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2009 and the Britcar Endurance Championship GT4 endurance title with Matt Greenwood for Tockwith Motorsport, racing in the Ginetta G50 GT4.

“I’m pleased that Sarah will be alongside me at the forthcoming Winter Cup, which is looking to be a fantastic way to kick start the 2020 Euro Trophy season, that has over 250 competitors from almost 30 different nations who will head to southern Spain,” admitted Alex Goldschmidt, official Euro Trophy commentator, who is looking forward to working with Sarah in southern Spain.

“With a varied career over multiple disciplines, she will bring an interesting and exciting new dynamic to the event, which I am looking forward to finding out about in southern Spain.”

“It’s great to get back to the root of how my career started, when I jumped into karting at a young age, and it really helped me develop into the driver I am today,” admitted Moore, who is one of the 12 returning drivers for the second season of W Series, which gets underway at Russia’s Igora Drive circuit in late May and will conclude

Sarah is also a very active member within the LGBTQ+ community, which includes her ongoing work with Racing Pride, a UK-based initiative founded by Richard Morris and Christopher Sharp, that is spreading the word about further inclusivity with motorsport.

“To be asked to be a part of the Winter Cup and work in motorsport in a completely different aspect is an exciting challenge, and it is great to able to represent W Series and Racing Pride here, to help spread the word about how motorsport is changing, with many people knowing that we have to #RethinkRacing.”

Along with Sarah, Silverstone-based commentator and presenter Anthony Jordan will also be joining the Euro Trophy livestream, working alongside Alex Goldschmidt as the official pit lane reporter for all four rounds of the main campaign, which commences on April 10th, 2020, at Belgium’s legendary Karting Genk circuit, based in the Limburg region.

Having worked in the UK motorsport scene for the past few seasons in both two and four-wheel racing categories, the Briton will bring his own style to the ROTAX Max Euro Trophy broadcast platforms, which are provided by both promoter Camp Company GmbH and Downforce Radio, who becomes the dedicated audio stream partner for 2020.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the ROTAX Max Euro Trophy for 2020,” admitted Jordan, who is looking forward to a new step in his career, as it will be his first assignment in Europe..

“I can’t wait to be in the paddock, getting to know the drivers, teams and make new friends and memories. To be a part of this championship for the forthcoming season is definitely a step up, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Further developments for the forthcoming Winter Cup include an increase in the maximum amount of allocated grid slots for the Senior Max class, which has now been bolstered to 90 from the original 72 mandated, which will also mean that Qualifying Practice will get underway at 1630 CET on the Friday afternoon.

Sebastian Vettel has had a busy few days since the F1 Russian GP as the German tested with Tony Kart and then met with Mattia Binotto at Ferrari HQ.

Before getting on with the kart run Vettel had, it was an unusual update from Ferrari on its official website of the German having a fruitful meet with Binotto on Tuesday which was followed by time with engineers in simulator to prepare for Japanese GP.

It is usual for the drivers to spend time at the factory whether to talk about the previous grand prix or prepare for the upcoming one but very rarely it is updated by the teams of the particular day they are having and what they are doing.

But aftermath the controversy surrounding a decision at Sochi last weekend which had Charles Leclerc also in the picture, the meet with Binotto becomes crucial for Vettel. It could be a scheduled meet as well as Vettel will have a busy week leading to Suzuka.

The German is due to test for Pirelli next week at Barcelona, where Mercedes and Red Bull Racing will also feature, before he flies off to Japan. Before his time at Maranello, Vettel flew to Lonato (Italy) and had one full day of a test run with Tony Kart.

The German was re-united with the team he has raced for during his early days as he drove the new Tony Kart Racer 401 R, both in the single-speed configuration and in the KZ version as he tested with the team’s official driver Joseph Turney.

Vettel also spent good time with the team’s technical head Marco Ardigo as he passed useful tips to the German about the gear karts which is new to him. It is not the first time for a F1 racer to kart in between the season though as many other do it.

The likes of Daniel Ricciardo, Romain Grosjean and Sergio Perez have shared images and videos of their test days but it is very rare for the likes of Vettel and or Lewis Hamilton – the champions on the grid – to have kart test days.

In a note published by Ferrari regarding Vettel’s Maranello visit, it stated: “Sebastian Vettel spent the day in Maranello today, preparing in the simulator for the Japanese Grand Prix, which takes place at Suzuka circuit on Sunday 13 October.”

“Sebastian started the day with a positive and constructive meeting with Team Principal Mattia Binotto before joining the engineers. In the afternoon, it was time to get in the simulator cockpit for a session assessing the SF90 running in different track conditions.”

Before the grand prix, Pirelli will have an additional test of 2020 tyres

The last day of the Kart Grand Prix Italy was a success on the sporting level as well as a popular achievement. The forecast rain did not arrive to complicate the Competition and the Finals were able to deliver a superb show before the winners were revealed. After a long battle, Marijn Kremers (NLD) won the FIA Karting World Championship – KZ, while Emilien Denner (FRA) dominated the FIA Karting International Super Cup – KZ2 until the end. Christian Ho won the FIA Academy Trophy Final and Kajus Siksnelis was the winner of the season.

Spectators arrived at the South Garda Karting venue to attend one of the finest Competitions of the year. The grandstand increased in vibrancy as the event progressed and the crowd cheered the winners in a very warm atmosphere. The last track demonstration of the historic karts of the FIA Karting Historic Super Cup captivated the public, who also appreciated the richness of the history of the discipline by visiting the exhibition of these machines in the large awning at the entrance to the paddock.

A privileged observer of the Races, CIK-FIA President Felipe Massa did not hide his enthusiasm during the Finals, which particularly captivated him. The Lonato circuit stayed true to its reputation by enabling intense and thrilling Races, where the best Drivers from all over the world were revealed. The Final stages were preceded by a very attractive presentation of the Drivers in front of a packed stand.

The last Qualifying Heats run in the morning caused no major changes in the hierarchy established yesterday. Drivers became accustomed to the weather this Sunday and with an overcast sky, although the temperatures remained very pleasant. Although all the teams prepared for the possibility of rain, the track remained completely dry all day, allowing an outstanding confrontation until the end.

Denner dominates the KZ2 Super Cup from start to finish

The FIA Karting International Super Cup – KZ2 produced a master very early on, in the person of Emilien Denner (FRA – Sodi / TM Racing / B’stone). The Frenchman completed a clear run with pole position in Qualifying Practice, then winning his six Qualifying Heats against 121 determined opponents.

At the start of the Final, his main rivals were Emil Skaras (SWE – Energy / TM Racing / B’stone), the European Champion, David Vidales Ajenjo (ESP – Tony Kart / Vortex / B’stone), Giacomo Pollini ( ITA – Formula K / TM Racing / B’stone) and Michele Fontana (ITA – CKR / TM Racing / B’stone).

Emilien Denner taking the victory in Lonato.

Threatened at the beginning of the race, Denner reacted with authority against Skaras. He then distanced himself as the struggle for the podium positions intensified. Denner was masterful in managing his lead to avoid being worried by Vidales, in 2nd, or Skaras who joined them on the podium. Pollini took 4th place in front of a promising talent, Senna van Walstijn (NLD – KR / Iame / B’stone).

Academy Trophy: Victory for Ho, title for Siksnelis

The duel started in Qualifying Practice of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy between Kajus Siksnelis (LTU) and Christian Ho (SGP) and continued during the heats before ending excitingly in the Final.

Ho quickly escaped ahead of the race while Siksnelis lost places. Robert De Haan (NLD), Filip Jenic (SRB) and Maxwell Dodds (GBR) each took 2nd place before Siksnelis closed the gap and crossed the finish line as runner-up, 6 seconds behind Ho, the winner of the Race.

Dodds was on the third step of the podium, but the battle continued. David Zachary (PHL) ended up taking 4th place ahead of Elliott Vayron (FRA). All Drivers counted their two worst results (Heats and Final) to establish the final classification of the Trophy, won by a good margin by Siksnelis.

Final classification of the 2019 FIA Karting Academy Trophy

1- Kajus Siksnelis (LTU) – 58 points
2- Christian Ho (SGP) – 46 points
3- Robert De Haan (NLD) – 45 points
4- Paolo Ferrari (ITA) – 39 points
5- Joshua Coertze (ZAF) – 37 points

Excellent KZ Final and world title for Kremers

The highlight of the day was the highly anticipated FIA Karting World Championship – KZ. The Qualifying Heats had confirmed Marijn Kremers (NLD – Birel ART / TM Racing / B’stone) ahead of Adrien Renaudin (FRA – Sodi / TM Racing / B’stone).

The Final saw them start side by side for the victory. Kremers took the lead, then Renaudin took 1st place after eight laps. Kremers responded four laps later.

Renaudin tried to react, but Kremers did not let it go. From there, the positions no longer changed despite constant efforts of each of the protagonists, with Riccardo Longhi (ITA – Birel ART / TM Racing / B’stone) completing the top three after passing Mattéo Vigano (ITA – Tony Kart / Vortex / B’stone).

Further back, Bas Lammers (NLD – Sodi / TM Racing / B’stone) was returning and finally finished 4th in front of Simo Puhakka (FIN – Tony Kart / Vortex / B’stone). The finish was tight, with Kremers winning 5 tenths in front of Renaudin, but Renaudin dropped to 9th place after a penalty of 5” for a front fairing out of position.

Longhi therefore gave a double win to the Birel ART brand which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Lammers was on the podium, and Puhakka finished 4th in front of Paolo De Conto (ITA – CRG / TM Racing / B’stone) who made an 11-place climb.

The Lonato track made its return to the international calendar last year with the organisation of the second Competition of the FIAKarting European Championship – KZ & KZ2, but we need to go back to 1996 for the last World meeting on the South Garda Karting circuit with the CIK-FIA World Championship for Formula A and Super A. The Competition, which will take place from 19th to 22nd September on the most popular Italian circuit, is therefore a highly anticipated event in the world of karting. The FIA Karting World Championship – KZ, the FIA Karting International Super Cup – KZ2, the third FIA Karting Academy Trophy Competition and the sixth edition of the FIA Karting Historical Super Cup have more than 260 entries, a very high number for the most part due to the Lonato effect. 52 countries from five continents will be represented, Italy taking pride of place with nearly a quarter of the entry. A large audience of enthusiasts will be able to watch in the stands at this extraordinary event.

A true temple of kart racing, the Lonato track saw its route lengthened from 1010m to 1200m at the end of 2015 in parallel with constant progress in infrastructure as well as conformity to safety standards. Lonato remains a world benchmark for testing and equipment development for the main factories, while the circuit has one of the most intense racing schedules in the sport. This is also the place where the big classic of the beginning of the season, the famous Winter Cup, takes place every year, this time for the 25th time. The Desenzano region is also a base for many international teams.

A clear international push in KZ and KZ2

In sharp progression compared to previous years, the entry list of the FIA Karting – KZ World Championship has reached a record 48 Drivers from 22 countries and four continents. The FIA Karting International Super Cup – KZ2 is not far behind with its 126 entries including participation from eight new nations including South Africa, Mozambique, Mexico, Montenegro, Slovenia and Croatia.

The battle of the leaders looks impressive in KZ

The FIA Karting World Championship – KZ promises to be particularly intense with a confrontation between most of the specialists of the premier gearbox karts and new blood from KZ2. Five World Champions are on the entry list, starting with the most successful, Davide Foré (ITA), Marco Ardigo (ITA), Paolo De Conto (ITA), Jorrit Pex (NLD) and Pedro Hiltbrand (ESP). They will have to face other experienced specialists like Bas Lammers (NLD), Anthony Abbasse (FRA), Rick Dreezen (BEL), Simo Puhakka (FIN) and Jérémy Iglesias (FRA), as well as rising stars like Lorenzo Camplese (ITA), Alessandro Irlando (ITA), Matteo Vigano (ITA), Marin Kremers (NLD), Stan Pex (NLD) and Adrien Renaudin (FRA). Others have chosen to move from KZ2 to the higher category, like Riccardo Longhi (ITA) and Rokas Baciuska (LTU).

Very open Competition in KZ2

FIA Karting European Champion – KZ2 Emil Skaras (SWE) will be one of the favourites for the FIA Karting International Super Cup – KZ2 as well as his direct pursuers Emilien Denner (FRA), Paolo Besancenez (FRA), Giuseppe Palomba (ITA), Paolo Ippolito (ITA), David Vidales Ajenjo (ESP), Simone Cunati (ITA), Jean Nomblot (FRA), Giacomo Pollini (ITA) and Senna Van Walstijn (NLD) who ranked in the European top 10 this season. Two OK drivers who recently took part in the FIA Karting World Championship – OK in Finland, Gabirlel Bortoleto (BRA) and Kas Haverkort (NLD), will try their luck in gearbox karts while Alessio Lorandi, the first CIK-FIA World Champion in KF-Junior in 2013 and an F2 Driver last year, will join KZ2 at a circuit he likes. Among the 126 entries, there are many Drivers able to aim for victory or to figure prominently in an extremely uncertain Competition.

Uncertain final round in Academy

The FIA Karting Academy Trophy has rarely been as competitive at this point in the third and final Competition. Although he was denied his Sarno victory following a disqualification, Robert De Haan (NLD) still leads the points against Paolo Ferrari (ITA) and Joshua Coertze (ZAF). However the outcome of the Trophy is more complex than it seems as the contenders will count their poorer results (Qualifying Heats and Final) for the final classification, and De Haan will not be able to increase his score because of his sanction. In theory, Coertze is in the best situation. Oleksandr Partyshev (UKR) previously made a strong impression in Sarno, as did Kajus Siksnelis (LTU), who has just stepped up to the third step of the FIA Karting World Championship – Junior with flying colours in Alahärmä. Ferrari has not had his last word and will have the advantage of racing at home on the track of Lonato.

Provisional ranking of the 2019 FIA Karting Academy Trophy before the Lonato Competition

1- Robert De Haan – 45 pts
2- Paolo Ferrari – 39 pts
3- Joshua Coertze – 37 pts
4- Oleksandr Partyshev – 33 pts
5- Kajus Siksnelis – 31 pts

Historic Super Cup: a prestigious event in Italy

In 2018, the organisers at Genk set the bar very high for the FIA Karting Historic Super Cup. South Garda Karting, however, does not intend to treat the 6th edition of this very popular event lightly, especially as it will take place for the first time in Italy, the home of karting. Among the many requests, 36 karts were selected to represent the five CIK categories from 1956 to 1989. Prestigious machines that helped their Drivers win World Championships will participate in the track demonstrations and the former Vice-President of the CIK-FIA Kees van De Grint will be one of the historic kart enthusiasts in Lonato.

24 Qualifying Heats out of 36 took place on Saturday, 7th September on the Alahärmä track as part of the FIA Karting World Championship – OK & Junior. Although it is impossible to know the actual and final positions before Sunday at midday, the day highlighted very positive performances by some participants, while others were falling behind due to the pitfalls of the weather and the very selective Finnish circuit.

Especially important in Finland, the weather over the Power Parkwas changing rapidly. It was fine in the early morning, but the track was still wet after the nighttime showers. The racing lines dried quickly under the combined action of the sun and the karts, but the parts in the shade still had wide wet patches. Before the lunch break, the track was completely dry, but the clouds were increasing in the Alahärmä sky. At the beginning of the afternoon, heavy rain changed the situation and continued until the end of the day.

Many crashes, not necessarily caused by contact, and decreasing in frequency, influenced the rankings over the Heats. Regressions and retirements affected several favourites, while penalties fell like the rain. A rare phenomenon, the public was already in attendance in large numbers in the grandstands during the first races of the morning, and the Finnish flags fluttered to show the sporting enthusiasm and national pride of the spectators. The gradual deterioration of the weather did not affect their motivation throughout the day.

Advantage Valtanen in OK
Juho Valtanen (FIN) took full advantage of his 2nd position in Qualifying Practice to make a great run in his Heats with three wins and a 5th place finish. Dilano Vant’hoff (NLD) progressed significantly with good consistency and a win to his credit, which allowed him to be ahead of three tied drivers: Kirill Smal (RUS), Rasmus Joutsimies (FIN) and Gabriel Bortoleto (BRA). Joshua Dufek (CHE) showed convincing performance levels while the title holder Lorenzo Travisanutto (ITA) was also back in the leading group with great intelligence.

Dino Beganovic (SWE) had a win, but lost ground in a Heat, as did Dexter Patterson (GBR), who recovered many places. Both hampered by a retirement, Gabriele Mini’ (ITA) and Nikolas Pirtttilahti (FIN) drove good races to try to catch up. Joseph Turney lost out because of a mechanical problem followed by a second retirement. Three wins in Junior for Ten Brinke 4th fastest in Qualifying Practice, Thomas Ten Brink (NLD) had three great victories before closing the day with a 2nd place. He made the difference against Laurens Van Hoepen (NLD) and Rafael Chaves Camara (BRA), with two wins each. Meanwhile, Andrea Kimi Antonelli (ITA) finished with two victories to stay in the leading group. James Wharton (AUS)was successful in coming back to the top along with Josep M Marti Sobrepera (ESP) and Ugo Ugochukwu. The poleman Nikita Bedrin (RUS) lost some places without losing all of his chances.

A retirement in the first Heat was costly for Arvid Lindblad (GBR), but he didn’t give up. On Sunday morning, 12 Qualifying Heats, four in OK and eight in Junior, will still be contested before the release of the names of the 34 finalists in each category who can fight for the two FIA Karting World Championship titles later in the afternoon. The weather forecast again includes some rainy periods.

In mild, rain-free weather, Sunday offered a high-quality sporting event in Wackersdorf where the three winners of this superb FIA Karting Competition were unquestionably the best. Congratulations to Robert De Haan in Academy, Emil Skaras in KZ2 and Anthony Abbasse in KZ, not to mention their brave opponents. The 2019 German Karting Grand Prix will also remain a milestone event of the season with its remarkably good organisation.

Although the absence of rain was appreciated, the confrontation remained very tight in the dry for the Drivers and their technicians during the first round of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ & KZ2. The circuit of Wackersdorf offers complex conditions for chassis adjustment according to the grip, which sometimes changed disconcertingly during the weekend. The previous day’s rain had notably rinsed the surface and the markers recorded during the dry practices were no longer relevant for the Finals. The mechanics were more than ever associated with the good results of their Driver.

Abbasse unbeatable in the KZ Final

Jorrit Pex (NLD – KR / TM Racing / B’stone) had won the last Qualifying Heat in the morning and took the lead in the standings, which allowed him to start on pole position for the Final. Anthony Abbasse (FRA – Sodi / TM Racing / B’stone) took the 1st position right from the start and Alessandro Irlando (ITA – Birel ART / TM Racing / B’stone) was the strongest opposition at first. Then Matteo Vigano (ITA – Tony Kart / Vortex / B’stone) came back to 2nd position to try to fight for the victory. But Abbasse was showing more speed and won without challenge after the 26 laps with a lead of more than two seconds. Vigano and Irlando joined him on the podium, while Bas Lammers (NLD – Sodi / TM Racing / B’stone) was 4th in front of Pex.

“It’s been a long time since I won by such a margin!” exclaimed Abbasse. “The team has done a good job since the start of the season, but the special circumstances of Wackersdorf this weekend put the gauges back to zero for the Final. From a blank page, our technicians have achieved a miracle. I was able to take control from the start and my kart was faster and faster over the laps, which allowed me to take a magnificent victory.”

Provisional classification of the 2019 FIA Karting European Championship – KZ after the first Competition at Wackersdorf

1- Anthony Abbasse – 34 points
2- Matteo Vigano – 28 points
3- Alessandro Irlando – 23 points
4- Jorrit Pex – 21 points
5- Bas Lammers – 15 points

KZ2: Skaras until the end of the Final

Leader at the end of the Qualifying Heats of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2, Alexander Schmitz (DEU – Tony Kart / Vortex / B’stone) was a favourite due to his performances and his great knowledge of the track. But it was Emil Skaras (SWE – Energy / TM Racing / B’stone) who made the best start. Simone Cunati (ITA – CRG / TM Racing / B’stone) took over in 2nd position before Schmitz encountered a mechanical problem and retired. While Cunati was still putting pressure on the leader, Riccardo Longhi (ITA – Birel ART / Racing TM / B’stone) completed a superb rise of 10 places in 3rd position. Against all odds, the Race continued until the finish between the first three, separated by only 0.076” on the finish line. David Vidales Ajenjo (ESP – Tony Kart / Vortex / B’stone) had a very good result in 4th place ahead of Paolo Besancenez (FRA – Sodi / TM Racing / B’stone)

Provisional classification of the 2019 FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 after the first Competition at Wackersdorf

1- Emil Skaras – 34 points
2- Simone Cunati – 27 points
3- Riccardo Longhi – 16 points
4- Giuseppe Palomba – 16 points
5- David Vidales Ajenjo – 15 points
6- Philip Hall – 15 points

De Haan takes the ascendancy in Academy

In a one-make Competition like the FIA Karting Academy Trophy, the skill of the Drivers has more influence than in any other category. While the Exprit / Vortex / B’stone were again exemplary in terms of equal speed, the performance of Robert De Haan (NLD) was all the more eloquent. He first added a third victory to his Qualifying Heats score before leading the Final from start to finish, setting the fastest lap of the race and taking a brilliant 4.5” win ahead of 2nd-placed Joshua Coertze (ZAF) in the middle of a fight with Magnus Germansen Daae (DNK). Gael Julien (IDN) and Charlie Wurz (AUT) completed the top five, while Paolo Ferrari (ITA) finished just 7th and Lucas Mendes (BRA) was the big loser of this race.

“I am very happy with this first Academy Trophy of the Year,” said De Haan. “I was as competitive in the dry as in the rain and the result was as good as my ambitions. I think I have a good chance in Sarno for the second event, because it’s a circuit that I like.”

Provisional ranking of the 2019 FIA Karting Academy Trophy after the first Competition at Wackersdorf

1- Robert De Haan – 35 points
2- Joshua Coertze – 26 points
3- Magnus Germansen Daae – 24 points
4- Paolo Ferrari – 18 points
5- Gael Julien – 16 points

The second and final Competition of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ & KZ2, as well as the second of the three Competitions of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy will take place in Sarno (ITA) on 14th-16th June 2019.

Travisanutto (I- KR-IAME OK), de Haan (NL- ENERGY-TM OKJ) and Macintyre (GB- PAROLIN-TM 60MINI) on top at halfway through the WSK EURO SERIES, after Round 2 in Angerville. On June 23nd in Lonato, the 3rd Round will be the closerof KZ2, that is currently led by Puhakka (FIN – TONY-VORTEX).

Big changes in the classifications of the WSK Euro Series.
At the end of the second of four rounds, an event made more challenging by the weather changes, WSK Euro Series’ drivers head back home from Angerville (F) with an eye on the classifications. The winners of the Series will be named after the two weekends of June 23rd in Lonato (BS) and June 30th in Adria (RO). Class KZ2 is heading fast towards its second and closing round in Lonato. In the photo on top, the podium after last Sunday’s OK Final.

Lorenzo Travisanutto getting the lead in OK.

The French round has been happy for Lorenzo Travisanutto (above) who got the full haul in OK and managed to clinch the classification lead at 127 points from the initial P6. In France, the Italian has been the fastest in qualifying heats and then kept his pace up winning the Prefinal and Final, having the upper hand on the rival from Scotland Dexter Patterson (both on KR-Iame-Bridgestone). The latter was back to his usual competitiveness and managed to complete a remarkable comeback race that allowed him to climb up to P2 in the Final. This result allowed him to reach 58 points and the fifth place of the classification. The Swede Dino Beganovic (below left, Tony Kart-Vortex) was not as effective and closed the Final outside of the top ten, which made him lose the lead gained in Sarno (SA). He is currently second at 105 points behind Travisanutto. The third place is currently occupied by the Dutch Dilano van ‘t Hoff (below right, Exprit-TM) at 58 points, who was also third on the podium in Angerville. The British driver Taylor Barnard (KR-Iame) recovered some ground in this round and reached P4 at 59 points. He has always been among the front runners in France.
Robert De Haan jumps on top of OKJ.
Things did not go as expected for Thomas Ten Brinke (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) in Angerville. He seemed to be uncatchable in qualifying heats of OK Junior, but a contact in the Final with the Brit Jamie Day (Exprit-Vortex), that cost the latter a penalty, pushed both off the fight for the win. Ten Brinke (below left) also could not get the classification lead, but he is standing second at 105 points, while Day stayed fifth at 65. The Dutch Robert De Haan (above, Energy-TM) made the most of this situation and reached 116 points becoming the new classification leader thanks to the second place in the Final behind the winner Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR-Iame). Things went well for Antonelli (below right), who reached P3 at 103 points, that is only 2 short of Ten Brinke. Nikita Bedrin (Tony Kart-Vortex) was disappointed instead. He was only 9th at the end of a troubled weekend. The Russian lost, therefore, the classification lead and slipped down to fourth at 100 points.
Macintyre leading 60 Mini.
The Brit William Macintyre (above, Parolin-TM-Vega) claimed deserved win in the 60 Mini’s Final in Angerville. He had the upper hand on the Jamaican Alex Powell (below left, Energy-TM) and United Arab Emirates’ Rashid Al Dhaheri (below right, Parolin-TM), that respectively won Prefinals A and B. Macintyre strengthened his classification lead and reached 165 points, followed by Powell at 111. The classification changed dramatically in the other positions: Al Dhaheri, second in the Final, climbed up to P3 at 97 points and currently leads the Belgian Ean Eyckmans (Parolin-TM) that trails him at 93. The Dane Julius Dinesen (Parolin-TM) improved his position too and reached P5 at 57 points.
Simo Puhakka defending his lead in KZ2.
The appointment in Lonato will mark the closer of KZ2, as the WSK Euro Series’ campaign in this category includes two rounds only. After the opener in Sarno (I) the Finn Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) is standing at 70 points, leading the French Anthony Abbasse (Sodikart-TM) who collected 59 points so far. The Italian Riccardo Longhi (BirelArt-TM) is currently third at 48 points and is followed by the Dutch Bas Lammers (Sodikart-TM), who has been a strong protagonist in Sarno and stands now at 40 points. The Italian Alex Irlando (Birel-TM) is fifth at 32 points. Above, Puhakka (between Lammers and Abbasse) celebrates on the podium his leadership, in the previous round in Sarno.
The round of Lonato of WSK Euro Series will also be valid for the
Italian ACI Karting OK and OK Junior Championship.
The Italian rounds of WSK Euro Series 2019 will be valid also for the Italian ACI Karting Championship for OK and OK Junior that will, therefore, run their second round in Lonato next June 23rd.  The situation is not fixed and currently, Dino Beganovic (Tony Kart-Vortex) is leading OK at 89 points, leading Luigi Coluccio (BirelArt-TM) at 48 and Dilano Van ‘t Hoff (Exprit-TM) at 30. OKJ is currently led by Nikita Bedrin (Tony Kart-Vortex) at 90 points, while Robert De Haan (Energy-TM) is second at 41 and Thomas Ten Brinke (FA Kart-Vortex) third at 39 points.

CONSTANT DEVELOPMENT

Racer 401 R, Krypton 801 R and Rookie EV are the latest versions of the top models of the Tony Kart chassis range, suitable not only for experienced drivers but also for youngest drivers in Mini class.

The Racer is the chassis “Symbol” of the company: born in 2000, it boasts 7 World Titles and many other international titles in all the classes.

All the improvements brought to 2019 chassis have been thought, developed and tested by the Tony Kart official racing team during the most important competitions around the world: these are the essential conditions for giving all the drivers high quality and reliable karts.

For Racer 401R and Krypton 801R, both available in direct drive and shifter version, the bare frame geometry are unchanged, the most interesting innovations concern the componentry.

Geometry, accessories and production method are the same for both models, the main difference is in the diameter of the steel molybdenum Chrome tubes: 30mm for the Racer and 32mm for the Krypton.

The Rookie has new bare frame geometry, a new brake system, new stub axle and seat available in two sizes.

AERODYNAMICS

Thanks to computer CFD simulations, the technicians of the Research and Development Department of the OTK Kart Group developed the new M7 Nassau panel for the Racer and Krypton: its shape is characterized by a unique and revolutionary design, perfectly integrated with M6 bodyworks.

Another great change is the integrated floor plate, a special type of floor plate whose configuration completely seals the frame frontal area, considerably improving the aerodynamic output.

COMFORT AND PRECISION

The Racer 401 R and the Krypton 801 R are provided with the new steering wheel covered with high grip rubber. This new solution grants a better comfort and a better driving feeling for the driver.

Moreover also the inclined steering wheel hub is new and provided as standard, this allow to better adjust the driving position.

KZ

The use of high quality materials and innovative methods of production are the main characteristics of OTK Kart Group, especially for the kart for KZ class: the most complete of the range.

Besides all the technical characteristics of the OK, on the KZ there is also an optimized bare frame design and the Bss brake system, equipped with self adjusting front brakes system with one-piece front calipers with 4 pistons 22 mm Ø .

ROOKIE EV

The chassis for the Mini class is completely new, with characteristics similar to the top models of Tony Kart Range.

The bare has new geometry, keeping unchanged the wheel base of 950mm and the tubes diameter of 28mm.

The Rookie EV is also characterized by a new design profile, with 2019 graphics similar to the Racer 401R.

The OTK Kart Group R&D Department carried out a great job on the brake system, called BSM4, it has been completely re-designed.

Its main features are: Ergal caliper equipped with 4 pistons, self ventilated brake disc and one-piece brake pump in Ergal.
