The FIA has confirmed Pirelli to remain as F1 sole tyre supplier for three more seasons beyond the current deal which runs until 2024.

As expected, the FIA has renewed deal with Pirelli to remain as F1 sole tyre supplier for three more seasons beyond the current deal which expires in 2024. The process has been ongoing for months where Bridgestone reportedly made the bid too.

Considering the long-standing association with Pirelli, this doesn’t comes as a surprise of them getting a nod ahead of Bridgestone. The Italian manufacturer has had commercial influence as well where it is the title sponsor for multiple races on the calendar.

Also, Pirelli is ticking the criteria on sustainability side to uphold the Net Zero Carbon aim of F1 by 2030. In 2024, all the tyres will have the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification which is another step towards sustainability.

In addition to F1, Pirelli will also keep supplying tyres to the feeder championships i.e F2 and F3. “We’re delighted to extend or presence in Formula 1 and its other related championships,” said Pirelli chief Marco Tronchetti Provera. “Pirelli was there when Formula 1 was born in 1950, and with this latest renewal, the firm will now be a protagonist throughout nearly two decades of the modern Formula 1 era.

“Thanks to the impetus from Liberty Media and the support of the FIA, the sport is enjoying an extraordinary period of growth both in terms of audience and global expansion, increasing its following among younger generations as well. Innovation and technology are locked into Pirelli’s DNA, and Formula 1 constitutes the ultimate open air laboratory to not only try out and test new technical solutions, but also to accelerate fresh research, development, and production processes in making tyres.

“I would also like to thank everyone at Pirelli for their passionate commitment and the quality of their work over the years, which will continue as we extend this partnership together. Our commitment to sustainability is equally strong, as proved by the FSC certification that will be introduced to our F1 tyres from next year. Being at the forefront of motorsport’s pinnacle until at least 2027 adds another important value dimension to our company.”

At the same time, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem stated: “Pirelli has been operating at the top level of motor sport for many years and I am sure that they will continue to deliver innovation and excellence on the world stage. Formula 1 is a unique challenge for the tyre supplier, and Pirelli has demonstrated great commitment to producing tyres that meet the extreme demands of these incredible cars.

“I would like to thank Pirelli for its ongoing support of motor sport not only in Formula 1, but in many other championships and categories at every level. Work will continue in the coming years to take further strides both in terms of performance and sustainability, and Pirelli have made strong commitments to both of these targets.”

And finally, Stefano Domenicali added: “Since returning to the sport in 2011 Pirelli has been an invaluable partner, supporting Formula 1 through new generations of technology and technical regulations and delivering tyres to enable fantastic racing for our fans.

“The company’s commitment to quality, innovation and their deep knowledge of our sport will be vital in the coming years as we approach our new regulations in 2026 and the work Pirelli is focused on relating to sustainability, proven by the FSC certification, will ensure we continue to work together towards our shared Net Zero 2030 goal.”

Haas –

F2 front-runner and Ferrari Academy Driver Bearman has been rewarded with FP1 outings with Haas in the upcoming races in Mexico and Abu Dhabi which is part of the FIA’s rookie programme. It will be the Brit’s first official F1 run apart from testing old cars.

Haas hasn’t noted which driver he will replace in which grands prix, but Bearman will be present in this weekend’s Qatar GP to immerse himself with the team’s procedures. He becomes the latest Ferrari driver to get a F1 test run with the American outfit.

“We’re very happy to offer Oliver Bearman these outings in Mexico and Abu Dhabi,” stated Guenther Steiner. “He’s had a stellar rookie season in Formula 2, four wins is testament to that, and as part of the Ferrari Driver Academy – we know his background preparation coming into these weekends will be first-rate. We look forward to welcoming Oliver into the team and have him drive the VF-23.”

At the same time, Bearman added: “I am so happy to be joining MoneyGram Haas F1 Team driving in Mexico and Abu Dhabi. Getting to Formula 1 has been my dream since I was go-karting so to be driving a car for the first time this year is really special. I’m grateful to the team, and of course Ferrari, for allowing me this chance. I’m working hard to make sure I’m ready to support the team as best I can on both occasions.”

McLaren –

In another F1 driver news, McLaren announced the hiring of 2023 F3 champion Bortoleto in its Driver Development Programme. The Brazilian will be under the mentorship of Emanuele Pirro, who was hired to run the porgramme earlier in the year.

Bortoleto is the latest signing in the programme which includes the likes of Pato O’Ward, Ryo Hirakawa and Ugo Ugochkwu. McLaren also announced the signing or F4 driver Brando Badoer – son of former F1 driver and longtime Ferrari tester, Luca.

Badoer joins on a one-year ‘Optioned Driver’ programme where he will be assessed by McLaren in 2024 and if he ticks all the boxes, he will be rewarded with a full-time seat in the following season.

“I’m pleased to welcome Gabriel to the McLaren Driver Development programme,” said Pierro. “I’ve known him well since the beginning of his motorsport career and he’s got all that is needed on and off track to be a star. He also fits very well with our team culture at McLaren. I look forward to working with Gabriel and helping him develop in his motorsport career.

“I also look forward to working with Brando Badoer, who we sign as an Optioned Driver, as we continue to evaluate him over the next year. They join our talented line-up of drivers who we will be working with on their individual development, to give them the tools they need to progress in their careers.”

At the same time, Bortoleto added: “I’m excited to be joining the McLaren Driver Development programme. I’m grateful to McLaren and Emanuele for giving me this opportunity. I’ve already been in the MTC for a tour and to meet the team, which was a really nice experience. I’m looking forward to continuing working on my development alongside a great team.”

Oliver Bearman survived multiple safety car re-starts to win feature F2 race at Monza, as Jonny Edgar took the win in F3.

F2:

It was a clean start to feature F2 race at Monza as Prema’s Oliver Bearman went wheel-to-wheel with pole-sitter Theo Pourchaire in the ART to take the lead of the race. Just behind, ART’s Victor Martins made an aggressive pass on Trident’s Roman Stanek at Turn 4.

While defending fourth, Stanek went to his right which forced Prema’s Frederik Vesti onto the grass and spun around to retire in a big championship points loss. Stanek was handed a 5s penalty for forcing another driver off but the damage was done.

He was fourth still from Campos’ Kush Maini who fended off Van Amersfoort’s Richard Verschoor after the Dutchman tried a move. Hitech GP’s Jak Crawford was seventh from MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger, Campos’ Ralph Boschung and MP Motorsport’s Jehan Daruvala in the Top 10.

The safety car was deployed to not just clear out Vesti’s car but also Trident’s Clement Novalak who spun out. The re-start was well for Bearman who held off Pourchaire and Martins, as Virtuosi’s Amaury Cordeel had a puncture at Turn 1.

He was hit by PHM Charouz’s Josh Mason who was handed a 10s time penalty. There was another safety car period when DAMS’ Arthur Leclerc went straight on at Turn 1 while coming in hot and trying to not hit the car ahead of him.

It was Daruvala in the lead from Virtuosi’s Jack Doohan and DAMS’ Ayumu Iwasa on the alternative strategy. The re-start saw the Indian keep the lead even though Doohan went off and gave up the place with the move under investigation.

While Daruvala and Doohan went on it, Iwasa cleared them both at Turn 1 to take the lead until another safety car period after PHM Charouz’s Roy Nissany tapped the back of Carlin’s Zane Maloney which sent him into the barrier on left, then to the right and back to the left.

As the safety car went through the pits, it was Bearman in the lead after his stop from Doohan, Pourchaire, Daruvala, Maini, Verschoor, Martins, Crawford, Hauger and Iwasa in the Top 10 where both Daruvala and Iwasa pitted early in a gamble.

The re-start had Bearman in the lead with Pourchaire clearing Doohan for second after couple of laps of try. Daruvala was fourth from Martins who passed Maini but had his DRS stuck open in a malfunction which forced him to pit and retire.

While his DRS stuck open, Maini tried to pass him but Crawford made an opportune move to get past them both. At the fag end of the Top 10, Hauger lost points places after coming in hot at Turn 1 and having to take the run-off.

Even before things could settle in, there was another safety car after Maini and Crawford came together at the Lesmos. The American tried a move on Daruvala for fourth but couldn’t make it stick which allowed Maini to chase Crawford.

But a slight turn towards the left from Crawford left Maini with no space which damaged his front wing to retire. Crawford had a puncture into the pits as the safety car period saw Doohan pit for his mandatory stop along with Daruvala who made his second stop.

It was Bearman in the lead from Pourchaire, Iwasa, Verschoor, Carlin’s Enzo Fittipaldi, Hauger, Van Amersfoort’s Juan Manuel Correa, Cordeel, Boschung and Doohan in the Top 10, with Daruvala just behind, while Nissany was handed a drive through penalty.

The re-start had Bearman in the lead again but Iwasa made the move on Pourchaire to take second but before they could race for long, there was another safety car period when Crawford was forced off the track while battling Stanek for track position.

The race eventually under the safety car with Bearman winning the feature F2 race at Monza from Iwasa and Pourchaire, with Verschoor in fourth from Fittipaldi and Hauger, as Doohan climbed up to seventh from Correa, Daruvala and Cordeel in the Top 10.

After the penalties were applied, it was Fittipaldi in fourth from Hauger, Doohan, Daruvala, Cordeel, Boschung and Stanek in the Top 10.

F3:

Drama already began to unfold before the 21 laps of racing had gotten underway. Pole sitter Oliver Goethe pulled off the grid reporting a broken throttle, leading to an extra formation lap. Once the five lights went out, Collet covered off the inside to hold the lead in the #17 Van Amersfoort Racing car. Third-placed Paul Aron immediately tried to take advantage of the space in front but lost out to Edgar, who edged past the PREMA driver at the apex of the Della Roggia chicane, allowing Champion Gabriel Bortoleto to follow him through into third.

The Safety Car was deployed on the opening lap after Sprint Race winner Franco Colapinto stopped on track after contact at Turn 5, leaving the Argentinian with broken suspension. After racing had resumed on Lap 4, Edgar was back on the attack, diving past Collet at Turn 1. Three-wide with Aron and O’Sullivan in the battle for third, Bortoleto went too deep and was forced to bail out down the escape road at the first corner, dropping him down to P6.

Another off-track excursion for Brazilian at Turn 4 gave Nikola Tsolov the opportunity to attack, allowing Barnard and Mari Boya to also come through and demote Bortoleto to P9. Grégoire Saucy tried the same but contact between the pair left the ART Grand Prix driver with a puncture, sending him sailing off into the barriers, necessitating another Safety Car appearance.

Back racing on Lap 9, Edgar couldn’t shake off Collet. The VAR driver looked to get the job done around the outside of the Della Roggia exit, but the Briton showed was back through for first at Lesmo 1. Behind them, Aron found himself bouncing over the gravel at Turn 1 after banging wheels with Leonardo Fornaroli, dropping the Mercedes junior from fourth to 11th. A lap later, a mistake for home hero Fornaroli at the Della Roggia chicane meant the Trident driver dropped to ninth.

The leading battles were fierce as Collet slid past Edgar to regain the lead on Lap 12, whilst Barnard lunged at O’Sullivan to claim third through the first chicane. Undeterred, Edgar made full use of the slipstream, carrying enough overspeed to breeze past the Brazilian back up to the front of the field one lap later.

Another Safety Car interruption to running came after Sebastián Montoya got stuck in the gravel at Turn 5 having been tagged by Hitech Pulse-Eight teammate Gabriele Minì. Edgar was able to defend from Collet who went for a move into Turn 1, as Barnard tried to join in on their duel. Seeing their battle, O’Sullivan seized his chance to slip around the outside of both Barnard and Collet for second. Going straight on the hunt for Edgar, the two ran side-by-side into Della Roggia, touching wheels and sending the Williams junior over the run-off.

The Safety Car returned that same lap after Josep María Martí was hit from behind, the Campos Racing driver found himself stuck in the gravel, joined by Rodin Carlin’s Ido Cohen. Roberto Faria joined the duo in retirement, pulling over on the main straight to extend the Safety Car’s appearance.

With a last lap shootout to overcome, Edgar went early to break clear on the restart. O’Sullivan was slow to react. Collet tried the switchback out of the Della Roggia chicane to take second, but it was Barnard who made his move stick, swooping through on the Brazilian at the first Lesmo to secure the final podium spot.

Champion Bortoleto recovered to take fifth ahead of Mari Boya. Aron took seventh ahead of Campos’ Christian Mansell. A five-second time penalty for forcing another driver off track demoted Fornaroli from P9 to P16, lifting Dino Beganovic up to 9th and Rafael Villagómez took the final point in 10th.

Frederik Vesti resisted pressure to win sprint FIA F2 race at Monza, while Franco Colapinto took the win in F3.

F2:

It was not as a clean start in sprint F2 race at Monza where pole-sitter Ralph Boschung locked-up going into Turn 1 and had to give up lead by going straight on. It put Van Amersfoort Racing’s Richard Verschoor in the lead but not for long.

Prema’s Frederik Vesti got on his tail to take the lead away from the Dutchman with Campos’ Kush Maini up to third from teammate Boschung. Hitech GP’s Jak Crawford was fifth after a small contact with ART’s Theo Pourchaire at Turn 1.

Crawford’s teammate Isak Hadjar was sixth from ART’s Victor Martins who was sandwiched between Prema’s Oliver Bearman and Pourchaire where the latter was behind him in eighth in the points place. MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger was ninth outside the points.

There was a spin for Virtuosi’s Amaury Cordeel who was hit by Carlin’s Zane Maloney. The safety car was deployed to clear the car as re-start saw Vesti still in lead from Verschoor who was close behind. Maini stood third but Boschung dropped outside the points.

Martins gained places to be fourth after clearing both Crawford and Hadjar, with Pourchaire up to seventh from Hauger in the points. There was also a collision between Carlin’s Enzo Fittipaldi who was hit by Bearman at Turn 1 in their own fight.

While Vesti led on, Verschoor came under pressure from Martins who blast past to be second. The Dutchman dropped to third from Maini with Pourchaire up to fourth from Crawford who had a fight with his teammate Hadjar for fifth.

The Frenchman had 5s time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage. Behind them, it was Hauger in eighth looking to get by them as Trident’s Roman Stanek and Bearman rounded the Top 10 when another safety car period was on.

It was for PHN Charouz’s Roy Nissany who was spun around while fighting for track position against Van Amersfoort’s Juan Manuel Correa, They went wheel-to-wheel from Turn 1 until Turn 4-5 when the Israeli was spun around.

The re-start was good for Vesti as held onto the lead from Martins and Verschoor. Behind, Pourchaire tried a move at Turn 1 but couldn’t make it stick. He blast past Maini at Turn 4-5 to take fourth, with the Indian having to drop back to fifth.

Crawford was sixth from Hadjar as Hauger was sent to the gravel when he tried a move on the Frenchman. He dropped outside the points as Bearman was up to eighth. DAMS’ Arthur Leclerc was the gainer to be ninth from Stanek in the Top 10.

Vesti resisted pressure from Martins to win the sprint F2 race at Monza with Verschoor holding off Pourchaire for third. Maini was fifth as Hadjar and Crawford ended up sixth and seventh but both dropped outside the points due to respective penalties.

It helped Bearman to be sixth from Leclerc and Stanek where both ended up in points due to penalties to the Hitech GP drivers, as Virtuosi’s Jack Doohan and Trident’s Clement Novalak rounded out the Top 10.

F3:

Promoted to the reverse grid front row, Boya took full advantage with a lightning launch off the line to get the better of Colapinto for the lead. Behind them, disaster struck for Paul Aron and Josep María Martí. The slightest of contact between Caio Collet and Aron on the run to Turn 1 left the #1 PREMA Racing driver with a puncture. The Estonian spun and collected both Jonny Edgar and Martí. Forced to pit for repairs, Collet was later awarded a 10-second time penalty for the incident.

In the battle for third, ART Grand Prix teammates Grégoire Saucy and Nikola Tsolov made contact, forcing the Bulgarian to defend from Taylor Barnard behind. The Jenzer Motorsport driver managed to make it through to fourth as the Safety Car was deployed at the end of the opening lap. Boya got racing back underway on Lap 5, as Zak O’Sullivan found his way past Tsolov for fifth, followed by Christian Mansell and Bortoleto two laps later.

Having dispatched Tsolov, Bortoleto made his own move on the Australian ahead. With the benefit of DRS, the Trident driver went down the inside into Ascari for sixth. Oliver Goethe was also on a charge from P22, clearing teammate Leonardo Fornaroli and Tsolov in one corner for eighth.

Colapinto took charge on Lap 10, passing Boya for the lead into the first corner. Dueling over third, O’Sullivan and Saucy made contact out of Turn 1, leaving the Swiss driver with a puncture and falling down the order. O’Sullivan was later awarded a 10-second time penalty for the contact. Battling for the lead, Boya utilised the DRS to breeze past Colapinto on Lap 12. However, the #10 driver was back past a lap later and began to break clear of the chasing pack behind with five laps remaining.

O’Sullivan soon found himself forced to go on the defensive as Barnard nipped past his fellow Briton into P4. The fast-charging Goethe then made an attempt on O’Sullivan into Turn 1, but a lock up sent the German driver down the escape road, dropping him behind Fornaroli and Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Luke Browning one lap later.

Out front, Colapinto brought home back-to-back Sprint Race victories at Monza. Bortoleto’s patience behind Boya paid off, as the Brazilian claimed second with a move into Turn 4 on the last lap. Barnard added more points to Jenzer’s tally in fourth. Browning stormed his way through the pack to take fifth with a series of late overtakes from P27 on the grid, demoting Fornaroli on the penultimate lap to sixth. Goethe finished in seventh ahead of Gabriele Minì, who made up 18 places. Mansell and Tsolov rounded out the top 10 points scorers, as O’Sullivan’s penalty dropped him from P5 to P12.

Theo Pourchaire took feature F2 race pole in Monza amid chaos, as Oliver Goethe did so in F3 under red flag which helped Gabriel Bortoleto to win the title.

F2:

Even after a delayed start to F2 qualifying in Monza, drivers took their time to start setting a lap time as the tow fears already set in. The first run eventually saw ART’s Theo Pourchaire on top with a 1m32.328s lap from Prema’s Oliver Bearman.

Hitech GP’s Isack Hadjar was third from ART’s Victor Martins and Campos Racing’s Kush Maini in the Top 5 amid lap deletions for certain drivers including Martins and Carlin’s Zan Maloney, where the latter couldn’t set a quality time after a small gravel moment.

He was not alone in that list with Virtuosi’s Amaury Cordeel also having a wide gravel moment, as an impeding between PHM Charouz’s Roy Nissany and Pourchaire was noted. Flames blowing from the car ended Hitech GP’s Jak Crawford session in the pitlane.

But the obsession with tow ended chances of a host of cars to set a second lap time as Pourchaire’s first lap was enough to hand him F2 feature race pole in Monza ahead of Bearman as Trident’s Roman Stanek jumped to third on his final lap.

This dropped Bearman to fourth from Martins, Maini, Crawford, Prema’s Frederik Vesti, Van Amersfoort Racing’s Richard Verschoor and Campos’ Ralph Boschung in the Top 10. The Swiss driver went on his own and improved himself up to 10th.

He secured sprint race pole as a result, with MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger also improving to 11th after breaking away from the back. His teammate Jehan Daruvala did so too but could only manage 16th in the end.

F3:

Oliver Goethe secured his first pole position of the season at Monza for Trident, confirming teammate Gabriel Bortoleto as the 2023 Formula 3 Drivers’ Champion in the process. Running in the gap as one of two drivers on track after the second of three Red Flag appearances, the German driver posted a 1:38.909 to go less than a tenth clear of Van Amersfoort Racing’s Caio Collet and Paul Aron in third.

It was all about the waiting game in the early phase of running, as everyone tried to avoid being the first to jump. Aron led a train of cars out on track at the green light, but the field swiftly filtered back into the pits following their installation laps.

Queues immediately formed around the track at the 23-minute mark. Situated right in the middle of a train of cars out of the Lesmo chicane, Ido Cohen was sent spinning after Rodin Carlin teammate Oliver Gray hit the rear of the #22 car, bringing out the first Red Flag. Following closely behind the pair, Bortoleto took evasive action, narrowly avoiding getting caught up in the contact.

Once running resumed, there was no time to waste. Hungry to keep his title hopes alive, Aron went fastest of all with a 1:39.043. The PREMA Racing driver’s effort didn’t stay top for long, as Collet leapfrogged him into provisional pole, but there was little to separate the top three with 0.054s covering Collet, Aron and Goethe.

The session was Red Flagged again seconds later, after a spin for Joshua Dufek left the Campos Racing driver stuck in the gravel trap at the Variante della Roggia.

When the session resumed with 15 minutes remaining, Goethe and Bortoleto were the only two cars to gamble on a run without the benefit of a slipstream. It served the #6 car well, as Goethe managed to improve on his earlier effort to go top by 0.092s.

Opting for another attempt, the Trident driver went off into the barriers at Turn 7. With a third and final Red Flag deployed, nobody got an opportunity to improve as the session was not resumed. As Championship contenders Aron and Josep María Martí were unable to secure the two points awarded for pole, Bortoleto’s job was done to claim the title.

Jonny Edgar finished fourth for MP Motorsport, ahead of Bortoleto. Gabriele Minì claimed the sixth-fastest time ahead of Zak O’Sullivan and Leonardo Fornaroli, ensuring all three Trident cars inside the top eight. Britons Luke Browning and Taylor Barnard rounded out the top 10 qualifiers.

Josep Maria Pepe Marti has become the new Red Bull Junior Team member ahead of the final FIA F3 round in Monza.

Marti has joined a long list of Red Bull Junior drivers for 2023 season as the F1 outfit continues to add young promising drivers in their ranks. The Spaniard gets support from the company while being already looked after by Fernando Alonso’s A14 management.

He had joined Alonso’s management company earlier this year and has had a solid second FIA F3 season with Campos Racing. Having scored just two points last year, Marti sits third in the drivers’ standings with the final round to go this weekend in Monza.

He is in with a title shot too even though it will be a very tough chance considering Gabriel Bortoleto has 39 points lead over Marti. The Spaniard has no margin at all to play with since it is only 39 points that a driver can score this weekend.

But the outside title chances hasn’t deterred Red Bull in hiring a promising driver in their ranks. Marti is the second F3 driver to join them after Sebastian Montoya with the F2 field having as many as six juniors currently with two rounds to go.

“Welcome to the team, Pepe Marti. Pepe is joining the Red Bull Junior Team and is set to showcase his new helmet during the F3 season finale this weekend in Monza,” said a short statement from Red Bull Junior Team.

Jack Doohan makes the alternative strategy work to win feature F2 race in Spa-Francorchamps, as Taylor Barnard took it in F3.

F2:

It was dry but cloudy conditions ahead of the feature F2 race at Spa-Francorchamps and it caught out ART’s Victor Martins and Prema’s Frederik Vesti on the out lap. The Frenchman spun just outside the pitlane but managed to continue on.

Vesti, however, spun at the end of Kemmel Straight and hit the barrier which ended his chance of taking part in the race. This helped teammate Oliver Bearman to lead comfortably at the start from ART’s Theo Pourchaire and Carlin’s Zane Maloney.

His teammate Enzo Fittipaldi was fourth from Martins, who had a slow start. Van Amersfoort Racing’s Richard Verschoor passed MP Motorsport’s Jehan Daruvala for sixth, with Hitech GP’s Isack Hadjar in eighth from Virtuosi’s Jack Doohan.

The Top 10 was rounded out by Hitech GP’s Jak Crawford. MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger was initially caught out by a slow Campos of Ralph Boschung at the exit of Turn 1 and the evasive action dropped him in the mid-pack.

On the exit of the Kemmel Straight, DAMS’ Ayumu Iwasa lost control on his medium tyres and made contact with Hauger which broke the Japanese driver’s suspension. The Norwegian driver stopped on track but the marshals pushed him to re-start.

The collision and the marshal push was put under investigation with Hauger joining the field at the back. Once it was cleared, the re-start saw Bearman lead the way from Pourchaire but the Carlin duo went for it despite a radio call.

Fittipaldi took third from Maloney who had to take evasive action on the outside at Kemmel Straight. This helped Martins to take fourth with Verschoor holding sixth from Daruvala, Hadjar, Doohan and Crawford in the Top 10 points places.

There was a scary moment for DAMS’ Arthur Leclerc on Eau Rouge when he made slight contact with PHM Charouz’s Roy Nissany. The Monegasque spun onto the tarmac and escaped hitting the barrier but suffered a puncture to drop back.

Hauger, meanwhile, was showed the black flag and disqualified for the marshal pushing him to re-start. At the front, Bearman came under tremendous pressure from Pourchaire who tried to clear him multiple times but the Brit hung on well.

Nissany was handed a 10s penalty for his collision with Leclerc. The pit exit was catching drivers out with Trident’s Clement Novalak going off the white line, while Hadjar clobbered the wall to lose the front wing. He continued but Virtual Safety Car was deployed.

The re-start brought Pourchaire and Fittipaldi close onto Bearman’s tail before their pit stop. The Frenchman took the race lead in the pitlane with a slightly faster pit stop with Bearman in second from Martins and Maloney, where Fittipaldi dropped to fifth.

There was a moment between Maloney and Daruvala where the Indian went off road while trying a pass and was forced to retire. The move was deemed fine with no investigation needed. The safety car played in the hands of Doohan after Crawford was spun around.

He was hit by Van Amersfoort’s Juan Manuel Correa at the end of Kemmel Straight. It was Pourchaire in the lead from Doohan who benefited having the alternative strategy. Bearman was third from Martins, Maloney and Fittipaldi in the Top 6.

But Martins had a 5s penalty for speeding in pitlane as he and Bearman were put under investigation for causing a collision after a moment between the two. Verschoor slotted in seventh from Novalak, Correa and Boschung in the Top 10 points position.

The incident between Crawford and Correa was put under investigation as PHM Charouz’s Joshua Mason had an off under the safety car which got extended. The re-start saw Pourchaire hold onto to his lead from Doohan and Bearman.

Doohan eventually went past Pourchaire on the Kemmel Straight to lead the feature F2 race. Behind, Martins and Bearman made contact with the Frenchman having to take evasive action but taking third from the Brit with the penalty already there.

Maloney held off Fittipaldi and Verschoor in the fight for fourth. Campos’ Kush Maini climbed up to eighth from Trident’s Roman Stanek and Novalak in the Top 10. The strategy worked for Doohan who took the feature F2 race win at Spa-Francorchamps.

Pourchaire was second from Martins but a 5s penalty dropped him with Bearman getting third. But the Brit had a penalty against his name too for the collision with Martins which helped Fittipaldi to end up third after his late pass on Maloney.

He had to settle for fourth with Martins in fifth from Verschoor as Bearman slotted in seventh from Maini, Stanek and Boschung in the Top 10 points places. With Vesti not starting, Pourchaire took the F2 points lead at a crucial stage of the season.

UPDATE: Following the conclusion of Round 11’s Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps, Dennis Hauger has been disqualified from the final classification for breaching Article 22.4 of the Sporting Regulations. After contact with Ayumu Iwasa at Turn 6, the MP Motorsport driver stopped at the entrance of Turn 9 due to a stalled engine. After he stopped, the marshals tried to push his car to the closest opening and whilst being pushed, Hauger “bump started” his car and rejoined the race.

Juan Manuel Correa has received a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision with Jak Crawford at Turn 5. The Stewards determined that Crawford was slightly ahead on the outside on the approach to Turn 5. The Hitech Pulse-Eight driver left sufficient room for the Van Amersfoort Racing driver on the inside, with a collision ensuing at the apex. As a result of the penalty, the American driver drops from P12 to P16 in the final classification, promoting Roy Nissany, Clément Novalak, Joshua Mason and Amaury Cordeel up one place each.

Finally, Iwasa has been handed a five-place grid drop for causing a collision with Hauger at Turn 6. The Stewards found that the DAMS driver missed the apex at Turn 5, putting him onto a wet line. Under acceleration at Turn 6, Iwasa lost the back end of his car, making contact with the Norwegian. Iwasa will serve the penalty at the next race in which he participates in.

F3:

After a formation lap behind the Safety Car, racing got underway with a rolling start and Josep María Martí headed the field on slicks. Paul Aron was one of the only drivers to opt for wet tyres and he went from P11 up to fourth in the first corners as those ahead on the mediums struggled for grip.

Along the Kemmel Straight he moved up to P2, passing Leonardo Fornaroli into Les Combes, then quickly taking the lead as Martí slithered around on the mediums. Barnard was up to second after opting for wets also, joined by MP Motorsport’s Mari Boya who likewise went the right way on tyres. Mansell was the biggest gainer, going from 23rd to fourth in the opening stages.

The Safety Car was deployed on Lap 4 after a crash for Oliver Goethe at Eau Rouge. He was out of the car and ok, but Aron’s sacrificed his nine second lead as the PREMA Racing driver pitted for slick tyres. Barnard, Mansell, Bedrin, Alejandro García, Sebastián Montoya and Sophia Floersch all remained on track to make up the top six while Aron filtered out on his mediums in P7.

Roberto Faria was also on the mediums but spun off the road and into the gravel at Les Combes and out of the race, prolonging the Safety Car. Luke Browning was another to suffer a spin under the Safety Car, but he was able to rejoin, albeit down to 17th.

Racing got back underway heading onto Lap 8 and those on the wets opened up a gap to Aron who was the lead car on the slicks in seventh. Caio Collet made a fast restart, passing Boya for P8 into Les Combes, and the Sprint Race winner passed Aron after the Estonian ran wide and off the road at Turn 8.

Championship leader Bortoleto had been as low as 20th in the first laps but was back up to 16th on Lap 9 as he chased down his title rivals ahead. The Trident driver claimed two more places into Les Combes to move up to 14th on the same lap. With five laps to go, Mansell was just 0.3s back from leader Barnard in the fight for first and looking to find a route through. The pair almost made contact into Les Combes and the Campos Racing driver ran across the escape road before handing the place back to Barnard.

Bortoleto continued his fightback, taking 12th from Boya on Lap 12 down the Kemmel Straight. That became 11th on the penultimate lap with a pass on title rival Zak O’Sullivan and with Aron in eighth, he needed two more places to clinch the title. Up in front, Barnard made it back-to-back podiums at Spa-Francorchamps to seal his maiden F3 victory ahead of Mansell. Teammate Bedrin was P3 in the end ahead of the third and final Jenzer García, who capped off a great day for the team in fourth.

Collet swept to fifth on the final lap after he found grip to pass Montoya and Floersch for a top five result. Aron ended up eighth with Martí ninth and Colapinto taking a pivotal 10th place, keeping Bortoleto behind and short of the title by just two points.

UPDATE: Following the conclusion of the Round 9 Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps, several drivers have received post-race penalties. Firstly, Hitech Pulse-Eight driver Luke Browning has been awarded a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision. During the race, the Briton made contact with Rodin Carlin’s Ido Cohen at Turn 8, with Cohen sustaining a puncture as a result. After examining evidence post-race, Stewards determined that Browning was the driver predominantly at fault.

With the penalty applied, Browning remains 23rd in the classification. Oliver Gray has received a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision. The Briton made contact with Campos Racing’s Hugh Barter at Turn 18, leaving both out of the race with damage. After analysing the incident and reviewing evidence, the Stewards deemed the Rodin Carlin driver as predominantly responsible for the collision.

Due to Gray not being classified in the Feature Race, his penalty is converted into a five-place grid drop that he will serve at the next race in which he participates in. Finally, Trident driver Oliver Goethe has been assigned a 10-second stop and go penalty for a breach of Article 37.5 of the Sporting Regulations. Trident team personnel remained on the grid after the 15-second signal had been given. With the Trident driver not classified in the Spa Feature Race, his 10-second stop and go penalty has been converted into a 10-place grid drop for the next race in which he participates in.

Enzo Fittipaldi took the sprint FIA F2 win in Spa-Francorchamps in dry conditions, as Ciao Collet took the F3 win with no points.

F2:

There was an extra formation lap after PHM Charouz’s Joshua Mason stalled on the grid and went around for a lap. He was handed a drive through penalty for the start infringement, as reverse grid pole-sitter Jehan Daruvala made a good start in sprint F2 race at Spa.

The MP Motorsport driver led the way well from Van Amersfoort Racing’s Richard Verschoor who had to hold off Carlin’s Enzo Fittipaldi and ART’s Theo Pourchaire. Campos’ Ralph Boschung was fifth from charging Prema of Fredik Vesti.

He took MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger with ART’s Victor Martins passing Carlin’s Zane Maloney for the final point. As the replays of the start were being played, Daruvala had his headrest come off in the final corner to retire in a bizarre circumstances.

The safety car was deployed to collect the headrest and also recover a spinning Virtuosi’s Amaury Cordeel. It meant Verschoor took the lead from Fittipaldi on re-start with Pourchaire in third. Vesti and Hauger were ahead of Boschung before safety car.

Having lost the place to Vesti early on, Hauger came back on him in the re-start to be fourth as Martins passed Boschung for sixth as Maloney came back on Doohan to be eighth, with Prema’s Oliver Bearman rounding out the Top 10.

Verschoor continued to lead the way from Fittipaldi who resisted Pourchaire early on where the Frenchman fell into the clutches of Hauger. He managed to shake off Vesti who had Martins on his tail while Doohan moved himself up to seventh from Boschung.

DAMS’ Ayumu Iwasa was the driver on charge having climbed up to ninth with Maloney in 10th with a time penalty for track limits. Just outside the Top 10, Bearman had a slight contact with DAMS’ Arthur Leclerc when the Monegasque tried a move on the inside.

But the door was closed which forced Bearman off the track and drop back. At the front, Fittipaldi clawed into the lead of Verschoor and eventually passed him on the Kemmel Straight to claim his first F2 win in sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps.

Verschoor had to settle for second from Pourchaire who defended third from Hauger with Martins in fifth after he cleared Vesti. The Dane even lost sixth to Doohan on the penultimate lap. He even came close to lose out to Iwasa in the final corner.

The two fought until the chequered flag where Vesti was pushed off and tarmac and he retained seventh from Iwasa. The move was put under investigation, as Boschung was ninth with Leclerc clearing Maloney on the final corner for 10th.

UPDATE: Richard Verschoor has been disqualified from the FIA Formula 2 Sprint Race at Spa-Francorchamps after a technical breach. The Van Amersfoort Racing #22 was found to have used a throttle map not in compliance with Article 3.6.5 of the Technical Regulations for both the Formation Lap and Race start.

As a result, Verschoor loses P2, promoting ART Grand Prix’s Théo Pourchaire up to second and MP Motorsport driver Dennis Hauger onto the podium in third. It also moves Campos Racing driver Ralph Boschung up to eighth and the final point-paying position. Enzo Fittipaldi is now awarded with the additional fastest lap point.”

F3:

Hugh Barter nailed his start to retain the lead into La Source ahead of Aron and Barnard, but wheelspin under traction for the PREMA Racing man allowed the #27 Jenzer Motorsport car to sneak through for P2 on the approach to Eau Rouge.

Collet followed the Briton in passing Aron, and on the run to Les Combes, the pair overtook Barter along the Kemmel Straight to head the field in P1 and P2 respectively. Aron and Jonny Edgar were also able to pass the Campos Racing driver before the end of the first lap.

Through Blanchimont, Collet swept around the outside of Barnard to take the lead of the race before the Safety Car was deployed to recover a stranded Sebastián Montoya, who had spun out before Turn 9 after contact with Rafael Villagómez.

Back to racing conditions entering Lap 4, and the two PREMA teammates of Dino Beganovic and O’Sullivan battled into La Source. The Briton was able to make the pass around the outside to take sixth, before moving by Barter into Les Combes for fifth.

Heading into Pouhon, Martí and Gabriele Minì fought over 10th but mid-corner contact left the pair spinning off. In his efforts to rejoin, the Spaniard collected the Rodin Carlin of Ido Cohen, putting both out of the race along with Minì, who’d ended up in the gravel after the initial contact. The incident brought out the Safety Car once again.

With the Safety Car withdrawn going onto Lap 8, O’Sullivan pressured Edgar into a lock-up at Turn 1, moving himself up to fourth. Bortoleto was up to ninth position having started 15th on the grid, passing Beganovic heading into Lap 9 but his joy was short lived. Slight contact after a lock-up for the Swede tagged the Trident driver’s rear left tyre, leaving him stranded on track and out of the running.

With the recovery of Bortoleto’s car taking until the end of the penultimate lap, there was no more time to go racing and the field finished in formation behind race winner Collet under Safety Car conditions. Barnard had to settle for second with Aron third ahead of teammate O’Sullivan in. Edgar held off MP Motorsport teammate Franco Colapinto, in fifth and sixth respectively.

Barter fell to seventh in the end with Nikola Tsolov eighth, Beganovic ninth and Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Luke Browning in P10. As the minimum of two racing laps were not completed without the intervention of the Safety Car, no points are awarded for the race as per the Sporting Regulations.

UPDATE: Upon review by the FIA, the points for this morning’s Formula 3 Sprint Race at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit have been awarded after the full race distance was completed. Race winner Caio Collet adds 11 points to his tally after securing the fastest lap alongside his victory.

With the top 10 all awarded the full allocation of Sprint Race points, it means that third-place finisher Paul Aron is now second on 102 points ahead teammate of Zak O’Sullivan in third with 101 and Josep María Martí fourth on 100. In the Teams’ Standings, PREMA Racing increases its tally with the Italian outfit leading the way on 298 points. Trident remains second on 274 while Hitech Pulse-Eight stays third, now on 156 points.

Oliver Bearman took feature FIA F2 race pole in Spa-Francorchamps after rain stoppage, as Joseph Maria Marti taking in F3.

F2:

Oliver Bearman didn’t waste a second from the get-go as he stormed to his third pole position of his rookie season. A torrential downpour mid-session meant the field had one shot at pole and the Briton put it all together with a 2:05.736 as the rain began to fall.

PREMA Racing took their first 1-2 Qualifying result of the season as Championship leader Frederik Vesti claimed his spot on the front row. ART Grand Prix’s Victor Martins secured another top three start in third. Starting out on a drying track and with the forecast predicting heavy rain, the field were out of the pits as soon as possible.

Before anyone could complete a timed lap, the Red Flag was deployed three minutes into the session after Joshua Mason found the gravel trap at Turn 9. It was a race against time once green flag conditions resumed, with all-bar Kush Maini opting to gamble on the slicks.

Having been advised by his team to finish every lap possible as he led the field back onto the track, Vesti skirted his way around the narrow dry line to clock in a 2:06.199. Carving out a path for his teammate behind, Bearman took full advantage, going fastest by 0.463s.

The PREMA duo were in the right place at the right time as rain began to fall heavily in Sector 3, leaving those behind with little hope of beating the Briton’s lap. Clocking in two purple sectors on his next lap, Bearman continued to go quicker. However, with conditions in the final sector too wet to improve, the Ferrari Academy junior’s job was done. The field headed into the pits to wait out the final 20 minutes of running, as the expected downpour arrived in earnest.

Martins’ sole effort managed to slot the Frenchman into third for his fourth-consecutive top three start ahead of Rodin Carlin’s Zane Maloney and Théo Pourchaire. Dennis Hauger popped himself up into sixth ahead of Ralph Boschung, Enzo Fittipaldi, and Richard Verschoor. After securing the all-important P10 spot, Jehan Daruvala will line up on pole for Saturday’s Sprint Race. Lights go out at 13:45 local time.

F3:

Josep María Martí pulled off one of his best Qualifying performances of the season, taking his second pole position of 2023 at a crucial moment in the Championship fight. Leaving his best to last, the Campos Racing driver took the top spot by just 0.016s ahead of Trident’s Leonardo Fornaroli. Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Gabriele Minì completed the top three, just under a tenth down on the pole time.

Grégoire Saucy picked up from where he left off in Practice, going fastest early on with a 2:26.165 to set the time for everyone to beat. Zak O’Sullivan went close, just 0.085s down to go second fastest in the opening exchanges. After sliding off into the gravel on his first flying lap, Kaylen Frederick was next to go to the top, setting a 2:26.077 with just under 10 minutes gone. Saucy retook the top spot very briefly until Nikola Tsolov bested his time with a 2:25.814 to make it an early 1-2-3 for ART Grand Prix.

That was broken quickly though with Paul Aron able to take P1 for PREMA Racing as track conditions improved lap after lap. Caio Collet was next to go fastest by just 0.002s from Aron with a 2:25.697 in his Van Amersfoort Racing car. Trident’s Gabriel Bortoleto lowered the time to beat to a 2:25.180 just before everyone returned to the pits to reset ahead of the final flying laps.

Into the final six minutes of Qualifying and Saucy went back to the top as the track dried rapidly. Further improvements moved Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Luke Browning into the top five before Bortoleto lifted himself up to fourth heading into the last minutes.

The PREMA teammates denied one another the top spot in succession but it was O’Sullivan that was the quickest of the trio. The Briton had been 20th after a laptime deletion but rebounded to usurp his teammates with a 2:22.551 to go onto provisional pole.

That didn’t last long though as Gabriele Minì pulled out a 2:22.254 at the chequered flag to take P1 until Martí went 0.094 better, on a 2:22.160 for pole. Leonardo Fornaroli was the last across the line but couldn’t beat the Campos driver, finishing just 0.016s down on the pole man.

Minì completed the top three ahead of Franco Colapinto, who made a late improvement to fourth. Tsolov was the lead ART driver in the end with P5 ahead of O’Sullivan, Beganovic, Jonny Edgar, Collet and Taylor Barnard in the top 10.

Championship leader Bortoleto will start from 15th in both races, pushed down from reverse grid pole in the final seconds. Instead, Hugh Barter will start from reverse pole after ending Qualifying 12th, and he’ll have Aron alongside him on the Sprint Race front row after the PREMA driver finished up 11th.

Jack Doohan dominated proceedings in FIA F2 feature race in Hungaroring, with Zak O’Sullivan doing same in F3.

F2:

It was a clean start from pole-sitter Jack Doohan in his Virtuosi car in feature F2 race in Hungaroring as Prema’s Frederik Vesti took second from ART’s Victor Martins with his teammate Theo Pourchaire just behind in fourth.

Hitech GP’s Isack Hadjar was fifth from DAMS’ Ayumu Iwasa who was on the medium tyre. MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger ran seventh from Carlin’s Enzo Fittipaldi after a good move by the Brazilian on the Brit who was on the medium tyres.

Both the Van Amersfoort Racing cars of Juan Manuel Correa and Richard Verschoor followed in 10th and 11th with MP Motorsport’s Jehan Daruvala in 12th on the medium. There was an early retirement for Trident’s Clement Novalak who stopped in the first sector.

The race steadied on with the soft runners pitting one after the another but there was a strange move from the medium runners as Daruvala, Iwasa and Bearman pitted even before the soft tyre runners with the red-walled tyres holding up well.

The front runners started to pit with a fight ensuing between Vesti and Pourchaire. That was hampered by Martins who pitted and returned to the circuit in front of the fight. Vesti managed to get through him but Pourchaire was pushed off track.

That allowed Hadjar to pass Pourchaire for track position with Iwasa close behind having stopped early on his medium tyre. Post the pit stop, Doohan still led the way from Vesti and Martins, with Hadjar in fourth from Iwasa and Pourchaire.

Hauger ran seventh from Fittipaldi, Correa and Verschoor in the Top 10 with Daruvala close behind ahead of Bearman – the latter duo on the soft tyre. At the front, it worked well eventually for Doohan to win the feature F2 race in Hungaroring handsomely.

Vesti came under pressure from Martins towards the end but managed to hold on second with Iwasa clearing Hadjar for fourth late on. Pourchaire hung on to sixth from Hauger, with Fittipaldi eighth ahead of the two Van Amersfoort runners.

Correa gained sixe places to be ninth from Verschoor who kept Daruvala at bay for long, with Bearman in 12th.

F3:

O’Sullivan wasted no time breaking clear out front, bolting off the line to cover off his teammate Beganovic on the run down into Turn 1. The Swede’s attention was on his mirrors to keep Leonardo Fornaroli at bay. Oliver Goethe tried to swoop around the outside of Colapinto, but the MP Motorsport driver fought back to cling on to fourth. Having lost P6 off the line, Paul Aron muscled his way past Jonny Edgar through Turn 3.

Gabriel Bortoleto found himself in a DRS train early on but utilised the slipstream to breeze past Jonny Edgar for seventh on Lap 6. After a disappointing Qualifying, Josep María Martí was on a redemption charge from 13th on the grid. The Spaniard moved up into the points, quickly dispatching Campos Racing teammate Christian Mansell along with Edgar on Lap 8 to move up into eighth.

Colapinto wrestled the final spot on the podium away from Fornaroli on Lap 9, sending a move up the inside and forcing the Italian to defend from fellow Trident driver Goethe. One lap later and the #6 car got the job done, as Goethe swept around the outside at Turn 2, with Fornaroli then dropping further back behind Aron and into sixth on Lap 12.

Championship rivals Bortoleto and Martí squared off against each other for seventh. The #23 Campos tried to pass the Brazilian at Turn 1, but a huge lock-up send him sailing wide across the run-off. Eventually able to get through later that lap, he then cleared a second Trident in quick succession, stealing the apex at Turn 2 to relieve Fornaroli of sixth.

Edgar began hounding Mansell at the tail end of the points. Mansell suffered a lock up into Turn 1 on Lap 18, allowing the Briton to breeze through, with his MP teammate Mari Boya taking advantage to demote him out of the top 10. With just three laps remaining, Bortoleto didn’t face a hard fight as he overtook teammate Fornaroli for seventh.

Out front, O’Sullivan had been in a league of his own, extending his advantage lap-by-lap to take the win by 2.3 seconds to Beganovic and equal the all-time winning record in Formula 3, with his third victory of the season and fourth in F3. Colapinto finished 6.8 seconds clear of fourth-placed Goethe.

Aron claimed back-to-back top five finishes, as Martí’s storming charge was rewarded with sixth ahead of Bortoleto. Edgar wrestled eighth away from Fornaroli on the final lap, as Boya rounded out the top 10 points scorers.

Dennis Hauger took the win after taking lead in sprint FIA F2 race in Hungaroring, as Gabriele Mini won in F3.

F2:

Reverse grid pole-sitter Kush Maini made a good start in sprint F2 race in Hungaroring in his Campos car but lost the lead of MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger after a lock-up. It allowed DAMS’ Ayumu Iwasa to follow through to take second.

Maini then lost to Prema’s Oliver Bearman too but the Indian came back on him in a fine move at Turn 1 to retake third. ART’s Theo Pourchaire was close behind after winning over MP Motorsport’s Jehan Daruvala, who tried a move on Lap 1.

ART’s Victor Martins was seventh from Hitech GP’s Isack Hadjar in the points places, as Virtuosi’s Jack Doohan jumped Prema’s Frederik Vesti in the Top 10. It was a steady race then on with Hauger leading comfortably and train led by Iwasa.

The Virtual Safety Car provided some drama when Trident’s Clement Novalak hit Campos’ Ralph Boschung which led the Swiss to retire as the incident will be investigated by the stewards. DAMS’ Arthur Leclerc was caught out too in this melee.

The re-start saw Hauger led Iwasa and Maini, while Pourchaire got Bearman just as it went green. The Brit wasn’t happy with it as he came under pressure from Daruvala, who had Martins on his tail along with Hadjar.

The last 10 laps saw the tyre game being played out with Iwasa starting to push in his chase of Hauger. But behind Pourchaire started to pressure Maini where the Frenchman finally made the move in Turn 1 when they had small contact.

Maini tried to cutback but made small contact with Pourchaire’s rear which allowed Bearman to clear him for fourth. The Indian driver then had Daruvala, Martins and Hadjar on his tail, with Vesti clearing Doohan in the battle for ninth.

The fight for podium took a turn when Bearman came on Pourchaire to snatch third. At the front, Hauger had enough at hand to win the sprint F2 race from Iwasa as Bearman held on third from Pourchaire in a tight drivers’ championship battle.

Daruvala took fifth on the final lap from Maini, who resisted Martins and Hadjar for sixth which kept Vesti and Doohan off the points list in the Top 10.

F3:

In his first front row start of Formula 3, Bedrin didn’t let inexperience phase him. Nailing his getaway gave him the run he needed to swoop around the outside of Minì and snatch the lead out of Turn 1. Bortoleto tried to execute the same move on Mansell for third, but the Trident driver couldn’t keep it within the white lines, going wide across the run-off. Meanwhile, Feature Race polesitter O’Sullivan also capitalised as the lights went out, making up three places to P9.

Further back, Tommy Smith and Sebastián Montoya made contact on the opening lap, with the Van Amersfoort Racing driver pitched into the air and across the gravel. They both pitted for repairs, joined by Hugh Barter and Ido Cohen, the latter retiring at the end of Lap 1. On Lap 3, Colapinto put the pressure on Tsolov for seventh, forcing the ART Grand Prix driver into a mistake to get the switchback done through Turn 2.

Having been waiting patiently behind Mansell, Bortoleto pounced for third on Lap 7. Utilising DRS, the Trident driver sailed from a long way back down the inside of the Campos Racing driver into Turn 1. Aron tried to do the same two laps later with a great run out of the final corner but couldn’t make the late move stick and ran wide.

Out front, Bedrin couldn’t quite shake off the #15 Hitech Pulse-Eight car and left the door open on Lap 8 for Minì to breeze past back up into the lead on the approach to Turn 1. Attempting to find his way through on Tsolov, O’Sullivan tried moves left, right and centre as the Bulgarian driver got his elbows out to defend eighth. Locking up at the apex, the #3 PREMA Racing car tagged the rear of the ART, forcing O’Sullivan to box with front wing damage.

Minì’s efforts to build an advantage over Bedrin and seven second gap to Bortoleto was swiftly wiped away on Lap 13. Montoya came to a halt between Turns 12 and 13 to trigger a Virtual Safety Car, which was quickly converted into a full Safety Car. Once racing resumed on Lap 17 the field faced a three-lap sprint to the line. Aron instantly forced Mansell onto the defensive for fourth. Having been unable to get past at Turn 1, the Estonian got the job done around the outside of Turn 3, enabling Oliver Goethe to also find his way through on the #24 Campos car.

Josep María Martí’s efforts to climb back into the points from P13 unravelled on the restart, as the Spaniard was tagged from behind by Tsolov, sending the pair spinning out of the top 10 and triggering a brief Virtual Safety Car appearance. With one lap of racing left, Bortoleto fought Bedrin hard for second as the Jenzer driver struggled with his rear medium tyres. Bedrin made his #26 car as wide as possible but a bad run out of the penultimate corner handed the Trident driver the opportunity he needed to snatch second place.

Minì reached the chequered flag 4.2 seconds clear of the duelling pair. Aron added more points to his rookie tally in fourth ahead of Goethe. Mansell ultimately had to settle for sixth ahead of Colapinto. Jonny Edgar, Grégoire Saucy and Dino Beganovic were all beneficiaries of the late restart to round out the final points scorers in eighth, ninth and 10th respectively.

Jack Doohan takes feature FIA F2 race pole in Hungaroring in cloudy conditions, with Zak O’Sullivan taking it in F3.

F2:

The F2 qualifying in Hungaroring started in cloudy conditions but the track was dry for the slick compound. There was rain spitting but not enough to hamper the running. It was Prema’s Frederik Vesti on top with a 1m27.931s lap initially.

He led the ART Grand Prix pair of Victor Martins and Theo Pourchaire, with Carlin’s Enzo Fittipaldi fourth from DAMS’ Ayumu Iwasa when the red flag was waved for a crash involving Trident’s Roman Stanek with about 19 minutes remaining.

Post red flag, teams tried to improve on old tyres but it didn’t work. The Virtuosi pair, meanwhile, went with a different strategy of late run where Jack Doohan was third after his run with Amaury Cordeel in 17th.

Towards the end, Doohan seemed to have taken the advantage to go fastest with a 1m27.676s lap after a late run to secure feature F2 race pole in Hungaroring by 0.052s from Alpine teammate Martins where Vesti was only 0.091s behind.

Pourchaire was fourth from Hitech GP’s Isack Hadjar, Iwasa, Prema’s Oliver Bearman with the MP Motorsport’s pair of Jehan Daruvala and Dennis Hauger, with Campos’ Kush Maini rounding the Top 10 and also securing sprint race pole.

F3:

PREMA Racing’s Zak O’Sullivan stormed his way to his second FIA Formula 3 pole position and secured his and the Italian squad’s first pole position of the 2023 campaign around the Hungaroring. Dino Beganovic couldn’t quite get close enough to his teammate’s 1:31.091 and had to settle for second, 0.403s off the Briton’s pace. Leonardo Fornaroli led Trident’s charge as he secured third.

After a dry and humid Free Practice, conditions changed for Qualifying and the field faced a slippery albeit drying Hungaroring. Keen to get a banker lap in early, Fornaroli set the early pace on the wets with a 1:50.354 ahead of teammate Gabriel Bortoleto. With a dry line beginning to emerge some drivers opted to gamble on the slicks. Running the medium tyres, Caio Collet went almost five seconds quicker than the Italian, meanwhile Maxwell Esterson found himself facing the wrong way after a spin out of Turn 2.

The Red Flag brought the session to a pause with 22 minutes on the clock. Oliver Gray got caught out around the slippery track, hitting the barriers out of Turn 3, but managed to crawl his way back to the pits. Once green flag conditions resumed, Goethe became the driver to beat. His 1:37.440 put him over two-tenths clear of ART Grand Prix’s Nikola Tsolov, but personal bests continued as Mari Boya, Fornaroli and Bortoleto leaped up into P1 in turn.

Having set the pace in Practice, O’Sullivan set out to do so again, putting the #3 PREMA Racing car out front with a 1:34.150. However, the Briton found himself swiftly demoted as Josep María Martí pipped him by 0.006s at the halfway mark. As the clocked ticked down, so too did the lap times. Hugh Barter went quickest momentarily with a 1:33.784, before Boya, Gabriele Minì and Christian Mansell all found even more margin out front.

O’Sullivan responded, going fastest in all three sectors to lay down a 1:31.091 with four minutes to go, as Beganovic hopped up into second ahead of Fornaroli. As the medium tyres faded away, few could improve, and the Williams junior’s time remained untouchable. Franco Colapinto put MP Motorsport inside the top four ahead of Oliver Goethe, who ended the session fifth.

Paul Aron ensured that all three PREMA Racing cars will line up for Sunday’s Feature Race inside the top six, ahead of Tsolov in seventh and MP Motorsport’s Jonny Edgar in eighth. A mistake for Bortoleto on his penultimate attempt saw the Brazilian go wide across the run-off at Turn 4 and into Beganovic’s path. A slight improvement on his final run moved him up to ninth ahead of Mansell, Jenzer Motorsport’s Nikita Bedrin and Minì.

Victor Martins held off multiple safety car periods to win feature F2 race in Silverstone, as Oliver Goethe wins in F3.

F2:

It was a frantic start to dry feature F2 race in Silverstone in cloudy conditions where ART’s Victor Martins and DAMS’ Ayumu Iwasa went wheel-to-wheel for the lead fight which the Frenchman kept eventually. The move was under investigation though.

There was a moment when Martins went off track and rejoined which was taken to be as leaving the track and gaining an advantage. Prema’s Oliver Bearman was third from Carlin’s Enzo Fittipaldi and Virtuosi Racing’s Jack Doohan in Top 5.

Campos’ Kush Maini dropped from the front row to sixth as Prema’s Frederik Vesti gained places to be seventh from Carlin’s Zane Maloney, Hitech GP’s Isack Hadjar and ART’s Theo Pourchaire in the Top 10 points, as MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger had a spin in a fight.

He managed to continue on and in his recovery process, while fighting against Virtuosi’s Amaury Cordeel, the latter spun off to deploy the safety car. Before that, it was Martins leading Iwasa, Bearman in the Top 3 with Doohan clearing Fittipaldi for fourth.

Maloney was up to sixth from Pourchaire with Maini and Vesti dropping down. But as the safety car was deployed, several started to pit and switch to the hard tyres. Hadjar took the F2 lead from DAMS’ Arthur Leclerc, with Martins slotting in third after his pit.

Trident’s Clement Novalak was fourth from Van Amersfoort’s Juan Manuel Correa and Campos’ Ralph Boschung, with Iwasa in seventh from Bearman, Doohan and Maloney. The re-start was good from Hadjar but there was immediate safety car again for an incident.

It involved Trident’s Roman Stanek who was spun around by Vesti. The Dane was seemingly hit by Hauger as the field bunched up in the corner after re-start. While Stanek stopped immediately, Vesti and Hauger pitted to change tyres and fix damage.

But for Vesti it was a retirement as he left the pits and had his suspension broken. The re-start saw Hadjar lead Leclerc and Martins, with Iwasa jumping places along with Pourchaire. Bearman lost out after a wide moment as he dropped outside the Top 10.

Maini was chasing him and teammate Boschung when he tapped the back of the Swiss driver with both spinning to retire where Bearman was clean out. As the safety car was deployed, Martins was handed 5s penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.

The re-start was good for Martins from Maloney as Leclerc jumped Pourchaire to third with Iwasa in fifth from Novalak, Doohan, Daruvala, Correa and Bearman in the Top 10, where Correa also passed Bearman at the re-start being on the soft tyre.

As Martin led the way, Maloney started to drop off from him with Leclerc chasing second but his tyres started to drop with Pourchaire on his tail. Doohan cleared both Novalak and Iwasa to get up to fourth with the Frenchman losing out and dropping outside Top 10.

It was Martins ahead of Maloney and Pourchaire with Doohan , Iwasa and Daruvala gaining places, passing Leclerc. The Monegasque was fighting Bearman, Fittipaldi and Correa in Top 10. There was a 5s time penalty for Daruvala for speeding in the pitlane.

Martins at the front managed to stretch out a 5s time to win the feature F2 race at Silverstone from Maloney and Pourchaire as Doohan was fourth from Iwasa and Daruvala, where the Indian dropped to seventh due to his penalty allowing Bearman to sixth.

Fittipaldi was eighth from Leclerc and Hitech GP’s Jak Crawford in the Top 10.

UPDATE: Following the conclusion of the Silverstone Feature Race, two drivers have been handed post-race penalties. Firstly, Oliver Bearman has been handed a five-second time penalty for causing a collision. The PREMA Racing driver was found to have been wholly responsible for contact made with Kush Maini, which led to both Maini and Campos Racing teammate Ralph Boschung retiring from the Feature Race.

As a result, Bearman falls to eighth in the final classification. MP Motorsport’s Jehan Daruvala and Rodin Carlin’s Enzo Fittipaldi are promoted to sixth and seventh places respectively. Roy Nissany has also been handed a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision.

The PHM Racing by Charouz driver was found to have been wholly responsible for the contact with MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger, which then caused further contact between PREMA Racing’s Frederik Vesti and Trident driver Roman Stanek. As a result, Nissany drops from 12th to 17th in the final standings.

Rest all were cleared as Prema were fined twice: https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/decision-document/2023%20Silverstone%20Event%20-%20OFFENCE%20-%20Car%207%20-%20releasing%20the%20car%20in%20an%20unsafe%20condition%20F2%20paddock%20to%20F1%20pit%20lane.pdf

F3:

Fornaroli covered off his teammate to retain the lead into Turn 1 while Gabriel Bortoleto made immediate progress up to fourth position, going around the outside of Christian Mansell into Turn 3. Paul Aron cleared both of them though into Brooklands to move himself into P4. Further ahead, Martí cleared Goethe to take second position, albeit briefly. The Trident driver was able to retake the place with a great pass around the outside of Stowe later on in the lap.

Luke Browning made contact with Hugh Barter out of the final corner, leaving the Hitech Pulse-Eight driver with a broken suspension. It resulted in his retirement from the race and brought out the Safety Car. Jonny Edgar was also out of his home event on Lap 1 after contact with Caio Collet on the opening lap. The Brazilian was into the pits at the end of the lap for repairs, dropping down to the back of the pack.

Racing got back underway on Lap 7 with Fornaroli relaunching into a comfortable lead over Goethe but with DRS soon re-enabled, the top six were separated by under three seconds at the halfway mark. Gabriele Minì was doing his best to join the lead fight, passing Sprint Race winner Franco Colapinto with DRS on the Hangar Straight on Lap 11.

Aron was the closest to the driver in front in the lead pack and with DRS on Lap 15 and tried to pass Martí around the outside at Stowe. The PREMA Racing man didn’t have room to complete the pass and had to fall back in line behind the Spaniard. Up in front, Goethe was able to pass his teammate to take the lead of the race.

On Lap 17, rain began to fall and Robert Faria went off into the barriers at Woodcote. He was out of the car and OK, but the Safety Car was called upon once more. As the rain intensified, Tommy Smith was the only taker for wet tyres with three laps remaining, rejoining in 28th position. The Safety Car was called in on Lap 20 with Goethe leading the way on a greasy track surface.

Van Amersfoort Racing’s Collet was able to make great progress despite running the slick hard tyres, taking multiple positions on the penultimate lap to rise up to the points positions. Teammate Smith was able to take full advantage of conditions on the wets, going from 28th to 12th in the space of a lap and a half.

Goethe was able to cling on to victory ahead of teammate Fornaroli, with Martí third for Campos. Aron ended up fourth ahead of Mansell and Botoleto. Minì followed his title rival home in seventh with Sprint winner Colapinto eighth. Collet was able to climb up to ninth in the end ahead of Grégoire Saucy, who denied Smith his maiden F3 points by just over a tenth in a drag race to the line.

UPDATE: Following the conclusion of the FIA Formula 3 Feature Race at Silverstone, several drivers have been penalised. Caio Collet has been handed a five second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.

The Brazilian was found to have forced Rodin Carlin’s Ido Cohen off the track at Turn 15 in their battle, and the Van Amersfoort Racing driver did not give back the position. It drops Collet from P9 to P15 in the classification, promoting Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Sebastián Montoya to the final point-paying position in 10th.

Tommy Smith has been handed two separate time penalties for exceeding track limits. The Van Amersfoort Racing driver went beyond track limits four times during the Feature Race, earning a five-second time penalty as a result. He then went over track limits a fifth time, meaning he has been handed a further 10-second time penalty.

It drops the Van Amersfoort driver from P11 to P25 in the classification. Finally, MP Motorsport’s Jonny Edgar has received a grid penalty for the following race he will take part in. Edgar was found to have caused a collision with Collet at Turn 16 on the opening lap, earning a five second time penalty as a result. Because Edgar did not finish the race, his penalty is instead converted into a grid drop for the next race.

Frederik Vesti controls sprint F2 race in Silverstone in wet conditions, as Franco Colapinto did so in F3 in similar conditions.

F2:

The wet conditions in sprint F2 race in Silverstone forced for extra formation lap where the officials took out couple of laps from the count. There was a rolling start and Prema’s Frederik Vesti led the way from Hitech GP’s Isack Hadjar and ART’s Theo Pourchaire.

Carlin’s Enzo Fittipaldi was fourth from Prema’s Oliver Bearman, Virtuosi’s Jack Doohan, DAMS’ Ayumu Iwasa and ART’s Victor Martins in the Top 8 points place. There was a slow mover in the pack with Iwasa slowing down as the race kick-started.

As he slowed, Trident’s Clement Novalak tipped PHM Charouz’s Brad Benavides into a spin to retire. Before the safety car was deployed, Bearman passed Fittipaldi to take fourth, as Iwasa dived into the pits for the teams to work on his car.

The re-start was fine for Vesti and Hadjar but Pourchaire lost third to Bearman. The Brit moved up to second after clearing Hadjar a lap later to make it a Prema 1-2. But it wasn’t for long as a spin for Bearman cost him second to Hadjar.

A lap later, he lost third to Pourchaire who came alive. He fell into the clutches of Doohan who cleared Fittipaldi. The Brazilian had a supreme wheel-to-wheel battle with Martins to stay in front, with PHM Charouz’s Roy Nissany in eighth in points.

Behind, DAMS’ Arthur Leclerc passed Carlin’s Zane Maloney for ninth with MP Motorsport’s Jehan Daruvala close behind. At the front, Vesti held well in the lead from Hadjar and Pourchaire, but the latter eventually made the move to get second.

Bearman had a wheel-to-wheel fight for fourth against Doohan, who got ahead initially but the Brit came back on him quickly. The two continued their fight where the Prema driver seemingly pushed the Australian off track, much to the latter’s disappointment.

This battled joined the back of Hadjar with Fittipaldi, Martins and Leclerc joined the battle too. Bearman made the move on Hadjar to clear him for third with Doohan clearing him a lap later to stick with the Brit in the fight for second.

Hadjar, meanwhile, had to fend of Fittipaldi, Martins and Leclerc. Doohan finally pushed his way through Bearman in the final part of the circuit with the Brit going off which allowed Fittipaldi to clear him and Hadjar to be up to fourth.

Bearman rejoined in sixth where he had a touch with Martins too which allowed Leclerc and Nissany to get on his tail. At the front, Vesti dominated the proceedings to win the sprint F2 race in tricky conditions ahead of Pourchaire and Doohan.

Fittipaldi was fourth from Hadjar with Bearman in sixth but under investigation. Martins was seventh from Leclerc to score points, with Nissany and Maloney rounding the Top 10 ahead of the MP Motorsport pair of Daruvala and Dennis Hauger.

F3:

As rain began to fall ahead of lights out, all bar Grégoire Saucy started on slicks. Pole sitter Sebastián Montoya kept the lead from pole, while Taylor Barnard surged up to second, passing Jonny Edgar around the outside at Turn 1. Colapinto passed both in one move, diving to the inside at Village to go from fourth to second.

A scruffy run through Maggotts and Becketts allowed Barnard to retake second later in the lap, while Luke Browning dispatched Edgar for fourth at Stowe. Gabriele Minì cleared the MP Motorsport driver on the run to the Vale Chicane and Edgar fell further down the order, passed by Bortoleto and Paul Aron entering Lap 2. With DRS enabled, Bortoleto was able to pressure Minì ahead of him for fifth position.

The Brazilian was through on the Hitech Pulse-Eight driver with some clever positioning of his car, forcing a lock-up from the Italian into the Vale Chicane on Lap 6. The heavy rain finally arrived on Lap 8 and the Safety Car was deployed with all the drivers running slick tyres. Dino Beganovic took the opportunity to pit for wet tyres while the rest remained on track to join the Safety Car queue.

There were more takers on the following lap, led by Browning, who pitted from fourth position. He was followed in by Josep María Martí, Oliver Goethe, Zak O’Sullivan, Aron and the MP pair of Edgar and Mari Boya. Beganovic’s stop moved him up to P11 with only those on slicks and yet to pit ahead of him.

With positions one to 10 still on dry tyres and those behind on wets, the Safety Car was withdrawn entering Lap 13 with Barnard right on the rear wing of Montoya. The pair made contact at Turn 1, with Montoya falling to 15th and Barnard to third as a result. Aron was immediately on the move, up to seventh by his wet tyres and fourth with five laps to go. As the rain eased off, those on slicks began to build tyre temperature and things began to fall to those on dries.

Minì had lost out to both PREMAs but was back up to fifth after passes on Beganovic and Aron on consecutive laps, still running on his dry tyres. Hugh Barter and Leonardo Fornaroli followed through to take sixth and seventh respectively on Lap 16. After his spin, Montoya was back into the points and eighth, passing both of the wet-shod PREMAs down the Hangar Straight with three laps to go. Ido Cohen moved himself up to ninth at the expense of Aron as the track was now too dry for the wet tyres.

Out front, Colapinto remained out of trouble to secure the Sprint Race victory ahead of Bortoleto, who extended his Championship advantage. On the final lap, Collet closed to within half a second of Christian Mansell in the fight for the final podium place but couldn’t find a route through on the Campos Racing driver, finishing fourth for Van Amersfoort Racing.

Minì was fifth in the end ahead of Hugh Barter, who secured his best F3 finish so far. Fornaroli secured seventh for Trident ahead of a recovering Montoya and Rodin Carlin’s Cohen, who earned his maiden points for Rodin Carlin. Martí made it three Campos cars inside the top 10 to round out the points.

Victor Martins took feature F2 race pole amid red flag stoppages in Silverstone, as Leonardo Fornaroli took pole in F3.

F2:

Victor Martins will start from P1 for the second time in the space of a week. The Frenchman was the man to beat once again in Qualifying, setting a 1:39.832 to secure the top spot around Silverstone. Kush Maini made a late improvement to jump up to P2 for Campos Racing late on, while Ayumu Iwasa moved himself into third with his final effort.

Practice pacesetter Iwasa was quick to set the early benchmark with a 1:41.100, matched exactly by his teammate Arthur Leclerc to the thousandth. This was swiftly beaten in quick succession as the Japanese driver dropped to the tail end of the top 10, before Martins put himself top of the timing sheets. His 1:40.576 was over a tenth clear of second placed Richard Verschoor.

The first of two Red Flags came at the 19-minute mark after Amaury Cordeel spun off into the barriers at Copse. After the #15 Invicta Virtuosi Racing car had been recovered, a short green flag spell was broken up by the second Red Flag but running resumed with eight minutes of the session remaining.

The curtailed session meant there were quickfire improvements throughout the field. Iwasa returned to the top spot for a matter of seconds before Oliver Bearman shot up to P1, until he himself was quickly displaced by Martins. Maini hadn’t been near pole until going second for Campos in the final minutes, improving to within 0.113s of the leader.

There was time for one final effort but only Iwasa could improve after Championship leader Frederik Vesti came to a halt in the first sector, bringing out the yellow flags. The Japanese driver moved himself into the top three but couldn’t displace Martins from P1. Jack Doohan finished up fourth for Invicta Virtuosi Racing ahead of Bearman in P5.

Enzo Fittipaldi headed up the Rodin Carlin charge in sixth ahead of teammate Zane Maloney in P7 after both made late improvements to break into the top 10. Theo Pourchaire was eighth ahead of Isack Hadjar and title rival Vesti. The Dane will get Saturday’s Sprint Race underway from reverse grid pole when the lights go out at 13:15 local time.

UPDATE: Following the conclusion of Formula 2 Qualifying at Silverstone, two drivers have been assigned grid penalties. Zane Maloney has received two separate three-place grid penalties. After the Qualifying session, it was found that Maloney has impeded the ART Grand Prix car of Théo Pourchaire at Turn 11. Stewards determined that Maloney had unnecessarily impeded the French driver during a push lap, earning a three-place grid drop as a result.

Separately, Maloney was also found to have impeded the #14 Invicta Virtuosi Racing car of Jack Doohan during the session, this time at Turn 9. Once again, Stewards determined that Maloney had impeded the Australian driver during a push lap, earning another three-place grid penalty. The two penalties drop Maloney from 4th to 10th on the grid for Saturday’s race.

MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger has also been given a grid penalty following Qualifying. During the session, double waved yellow flags were displayed at Turn 4. Hauger was found to have not aborted his push lap, contravening the FIA Sporting Code. The Stewards assigned Hauger a five-place grid penalty for the Sprint Race as a result. The Norwegian Qualified 14th but will now start the Sprint Race from 19th.

F3:

Leonardo Fornaroli headed up a Trident 1-2 around Silverstone, taking his maiden Formula 3 pole position with a 1:45.520. Teammate Oliver Goethe followed in second after making a late improvement, while Josep María Martí led the Campos Racing effort in third. The Spaniard was narrowly ahead of teammate Christian Mansell, who secured his best F3 Qualifying result in fourth. Championship leader Gabriel Bortoleto rounded out the top five on a good day for the Trident team.

Gabriele Minì set the early pace with a 1:46.619 which was swiftly beaten by teammate Luke Browning to the tune of three-tenths. The Tridents of Gabriel Bortoleto and Oliver Goethe crossed the line to split the two Hitech Pulse-Eight drivers, with the top three covered by just 0.120s. With 10 minutes gone, Paul Aron became the driver to beat, setting a 1:46.191 in the #1 PREMA Racing car.

Just beyond halfway through the session, the lead changed hands once again as Leonardo Fornaroli put his Trident onto provisional pole with a 1:45.717 to head the field by over four-tenths. MP Motorsport’s Franco Colapinto closed the gap down to 0.375s to slot into P2. The track filled up once more after a swap to fresh tyres with less than 10 minutes remaining of Qualifying.

Minì, Browning and Aron each improved on their next efforts but only the Estonian got to within a quarter of a second of Fornaroli’s provisional pole time. The Italian was able to find even more margin and lowered his personal best to a 1:45.520. Teammate Goethe slotted into second with his last lap, 0.126s back in P2.

Martí and Mansell popped up to third and fourth respectively for Campos Racing on their last laps, with Bortoleto ensuring all three Tridents were in the top five with fifth. Aron ended up sixth for PREMA ahead of Minì and Browning for Hitech. Colapinto slotted into ninth ahead of British duo Taylor Barnard and Jonny Edgar in 11th. Sebastián Montoya will line up on reverse grid pole for Hitech Pulse-Eight in the Sprint Race on Saturday, set to get underway at 09:20 local time.

Richard Verschoor came through 11th to win feature FIA F2 race in Austria, as Zak O’Sullivan took the mantle in F3.

F2:

It was a clean start for Frederik Vesti in the Prema car from the front row in dry feature race to take the lead from ART Grand Prix’s Theo Pourchaire and his teammate Victor Martins, who dropped to third after starting from pole.

Campos Racing’s Kush Maini steadied in fourth from Virtuosi’s Jack Doohan, MP Motorsport’s Jehan Daruvala, Carlin’s Enzo Fittipaldi, Virtuosi’s Amaury Cordeel, Van Amersfoort’s Richard Verschoor and MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger in the Top 10.

As Vesti led the way, there was a battle for third as Maini passed Martins at Turn 3 but Doohan used DRS to pass both at Turn 4 to jump to third from Maini and Martins. Behind them, Fittipaldi on the soft tyre started to hurry Daruvala on the super soft.

Cordeel was passed by Verschoor for eighth as Hauger pressed on well but in the lead-up to Turn 3, the Norwegian was put on the grass which cost him time and places to both the DAMS drivers Ayumu Iwasa and Arthur Leclerc in the next couple of corners.

In fact, Iwasa even cleared Cordeel into ninth, as pit stop kick-started where Fittipaldi took the lead on the alternative strategy from Verschoor and Iwasa. Post the pit stops, net race lead Vesti stood at ninth from Pourchaire and Doohan in the Top 3.

There was an incident noted for Hauger for crossing the white line when entering the pits. He was handed a 5s time penalty with Maini too getting one for track limits. The net lead fight, meanwhile, saw Doohan pounce on Pourchaire for track position.

There was a Virtual Safety Car deployed initially for Leclerc’s lose wheel post his pit stop, but it was converted into a full safety car. It was Vesti ahead of Doohan and Pourchaire, Martins and Verschoor in the Top 5 from Iwasa and Carlin’s Zane Maloney.

PHM Charouz’s Roy Nissany was eighth with teammate Brad Benavides in 10th behind Fittipladi. The likes of Daruvala, Maini, Hauger, Trident’s Clement Novalak, Campos’ Ralph Boschung and Cordeel went for a second stop under the safety car.

The re-start saw Vesti and Doohan hold on but Verschoor gained couple of places to be third from Iwasa with Pourchaire in fifth from Martins, Bearman, Fittipaldi, Maloney and Daruvala in the Top 10 until the VSC period to clear Maini’s car.

The Indian had a contact with Hauger which left Maini with a puncture. The re-start saw Verschoor and Iwasa pounce on Vesti and Doohan to pass them both to be 1-2. The Dutchman fended off the Japanese to win the feature F2 race in Austria.

Vesti had to be content with third from Doohan as Bearman was fifth from Fittipaldi, Pourchaire, Hitech GP’s Jak Crawford, Martins and Daruvala in the Top 10.

F3:

Grégoire Saucy held onto pole from lights out while Bortoleto had to fend off pressure from Paul Aron to keep hold of third. Further back, Gabriele Minì had slight contact at with Luke Browning at Turn 4. The #15 Hitech Pulse-Eight driver was sent across the gravel and was left out of the race. It prompted a Safety Car on Lap 2.

Racing got back underway entering Lap 5 with Saucy able to build up a small gap to Dino Beganovic behind him. The ART driver couldn’t escape the one-second DRS window though, and the Swede was through for P1 on Lap 7 under braking at Turn 4. Like Saucy though, without DRS, he was unable to break away and the top five were separated by under two seconds. Aron made a late dive down the inside of Bortoleto at Turn 3 to take third position on Lap 10.

One lap later and he tried the same on Saucy but had no room to make it stick. The pair made the slightest of contact and it resulted in a puncture for the Swiss, tumbling down the order after a necessary pit stop. Aron dropped behind Bortoleto and O’Sullivan to fourth with front wing damage.

In the fight for the lead, Bortoleto was able to slipstream his way past Beganovic for P1 into Turn 4 on Lap 13, while Aron was finally forced to pit for a new front wing. Teammate O’Sullivan was the next to make a DRS pass, demoting Beganovic to third.

The Briton wasn’t finished, diving down the inside of Bortoleto to take the lead. Franco Colapinto got himself involved in the podium fight with a sweep all the way around the outside of Beganovic to take third in his MP Motorsport car. Further back, Caio Collet and Sebastián Montoya made progress up the top 10, passing Kaylen Frederick to take fifth and sixth places.

Mari Boya was the next through on the ART driver, taking seventh position on the way up to Turn 3 with DRS on Lap 17. The American tried to fight it back and the two made contact at Turn 5. It left both with front wing damage and the pair were in for repairs at the end of the lap.

Collet continued his push up the top 10, passing Beganovic with a late dive into Turn 3. Montoya followed through for P5 with a brave move around the outside of the Swede at Turn 7, even after dipping two wheels into the gravel before corner entry. The Colombian wasn’t done there, as he overtook Collet for fourth on Lap 23, diving to the inside at Turn 4 to pass the Van Amersfoort driver.

Onto the final lap and the top five were covered by just two seconds. O’Sullivan held on for his first Feature Race win ahead of Bortoleto, but there was last lap drama in the battle for the final podium spot. Montoya was side-by-side with Colapinto, but the pair made contact at Turn 6. It allowed Collet to sneak through for the final podium place ahead of the Argentinian.

Beganovic was fifth ahead of Jonny Edgar, Christian Mansell, Hugh Barter and Sophia Floersch, who captured PHM Racing by Charouz’s first points in FIA Formula 3 from 20th on the grid. Montoya fell to 10th in the end after his final lap clash with Colapinto.

Jak Crawford lost sprint FIA F2 lead in Austria but regained to win in tricky conditions, while Paul Aron makes a late pass to win in F3.

F2:

Light rain ahead of the race meant half the field opted to start on the wet tyres. Utilising the dry soft tyres, reverse polesitter Crawford held the lead through the opening corners but it was Arthur Leclerc who made the most of his choice to start on wets. The DAMS driver went from third to the lead of the race by Turn 4 after the Hitech Pulse-Eight ran wide.

Jehan Daruvala spinning off into the gravel at Turn 7 brought out an early Safety Car at the start of Lap 2. This gave the wet tyre runners a chance to switch to slicks, with Théo Pourchaire, Frederik Vesti and Dennis Hauger all stopping, having run inside the top five.

Out front, Leclerc opted to stay out held the lead at the restart on Lap 4. Second-place Richard Verschoor dropped a wheel over the sausage kerb and spun off at the exit of Turn 1, necessitating another Safety Car. Leclerc chose to pit, handing the lead back to Crawford ahead of Juan Manuel Correa.

Back to racing on Lap 8, Kush Maini, Zane Maloney and Enzo Fittipaldi went three-wide up the hill into Turn 3. Diving to the inside, Maloney was through on both, but soon dropped down the order as the track dried and softs became the tyre of choice.

Their battle allowed Martins through into third and he quickly closed on Correa. Late on the brakes, the ART Grand Prix driver went up the inside of Turn 3 to pass the #23 Van Amersfoort Racing car.

Another beneficiary of the soft tyres, Novalak had already made up 16 places after dispatching Isack Hadjar for fourth and soon caught Correa. On Lap 18, the Trident driver was through on the inside to take third, allowing Hadjar the room to follow his compatriot through to take fourth. A spin for Fittipaldi between Turns 3 and 4 after catching the grass led to the Virtual Safety Car being deployed for two laps.

Having fought his way back up into the points, Oliver Bearman couldn’t hold onto a scoring finish. After overtaking Hauger earlier in the race, the MP Motorsport driver repaid the favour to take eighth. With the benefit of the switchback, the Norwegian was then able to get the run on Jack Doohan to take seventh on the final lap.

Nobody could deny Red Bull junior Crawford his maiden victory around the Red Bull Ring. Martins fought through to second, as Novalak returned to the podium for the first time since Zandvoort last year. Hadjar ensured both Hitech cars finished in the top four, as Correa’s valiant defence was rewarded with fifth ahead of Roman Stanek. Hauger ended up seventh with Jack Doohan rounding out the points-scorers in front of PREMA Racing’s Bearman and Vesti.

UPDATE: Clément Novalak has been disqualified from the Formula 2 Sprint Race in Spielberg after it was found that the #21 Trident car breached Article 12.9 of the Technical Regulations. Following post-race scrutineering, the Stewards ruled that the car’s rear tyre pressures were below the limit required. As a result, Isack Hadjar is promoted to the podium in third, whilst Oliver Bearman moves up to claim the final points paying position in eighth.

Kush Maini has been given a drive-through penalty, converted into a 20-second time penalty for forcing Enzo Fittipaldi off track between Turns 3 and 4. Maini moved to the right to try and block an overtake forcing the Brazilian off track. The penalty demotes the Indian driver from P12 to P16 in the final classification.

Maini’s teammate, Ralph Boschung, has also received a 10-second time penalty for forcing Amaury Cordeel off track between Turns 3 and 4. The Swiss driver moves from P18 to P17 in the final classification, as a result of Novalak’s disqualification. Lastly, Fittipaldi has received a three-place grid drop for the next race he participates in for colliding with Maini at Turn 3.

F3:

After a Safety Car-led formation lap, Martí retained his lead off the line, but Oliver Goethe didn’t pull away cleanly, dropping from fourth down to 27th. Aron was flying though and up to third by the end of the first lap.

On Lap 2, Trident’s Gabriel Bortoleto dropped down to 14th having been in ninth position after a slow exit out of Turn 3. The Brazilian was quick to start his fightback, taking 13th from Mari Boya and then 12th from Dino Beganovic in quick succession.

Aron cleared Kaylen Frederick for P2 on Lap 8 and set his sights on leader Martí, who’d built up a 3.6s lead in the opening stages of the race. The Mercedes junior immediately set the fastest lap of the race in clean air to take four-tenths out of the Spaniard.

Frederick was on the defensive once more on Lap 9 as this time, Minì passed the ART Grand Prix driver around the outside of Turn 4 to take third. Collet was through on the following lap into Turn 3. Franco Colapinto attempted to take sixth from Zak O’Sullivan but got too deep into Turn 4 and took a trip through the gravel, falling to 19th as a result.

The Safety Car was deployed on Lap 11 after contact between Oliver Gray and Rafael Villagómez at Turn 4. The VAR driver was spun around following contact with the #20 Rodin Carlin, and the Briton had nowhere to go to avoid him.

Racing resumed entering Lap 14 and Martí put a small buffer between himself and Aron at the restart. Meanwhile, Beganovic was able to clear Luke Browning at Turn 3 to take ninth from the Hitech Pulse-Eight driver. O’Sullivan moved himself into the top five on Lap 16, diving to the inside of Frederick up the hill into Turn 3.

Aron had closed on Martí gradually lap after lap following the restart and on Lap 18, he cleared the Spanish driver into Turn 3, fending off Minì in the process, who’d put them all three-wide entering the corner. The Hitech Pulse-Eight driver was able to move himself into second at Turn 4, dropping Martí to third.

Collet dived to the inside of the Campos racer at the final corner on the penultimate lap to move himself into third, and O’Sullivan capitalised on his lost momentum to pass Martí for fourth. Edgar swept through to take fifth at Turn 5 to cap off a tricky day for the reverse grid pole sitter.

Aron made up for his disappointment after missing out on pole with a superb victory in the spray. The PREMA held off Minì, who took P2, with Collet third in front of O’Sullivan. Edgar scored his first top five of the season for MP Motorsport, having started 16th on the grid, whilst Martí ended up sixth for Campos. Frederick was seventh in the end ahead of Beganovic, Montoya and Bortoleto, who took the final Championship point in 10th.

UPDATE: Oliver Gray has been given a 10-second time penalty after the Rodin Carlin driver was judged to have caused a collision. The Briton made contact with Van Amersfoort Racing’s Rafael Villagómez at Turn 4 on Lap 11. Following a post-race investigation by the Stewards, Gray was judged to have been wholly responsible for the collision.

With the Rodin Carlin driver not finishing the Sprint Race as a result of the contact, his time penalty has been converted into a five-place grid drop for the next race in which he competes. Jenzer Motorsport’s Nikita Bedrin has also been handed a 10-second time penalty following the conclusion of the Sprint Race. Bedrin was found to have been wholly responsible for an incident with Trident driver Leonardo Fornaroli during the race. The penalty drops the Jenzer driver from 17th to 25th.

Victor Martins took feature FIA F2 race pole in Austria, while Gregoire Saucy did so in F3 amid lap deletions.

F2:

The F2 qualifying in Austria saw loads of lap deletions in the first run where ART Grand Prix’s Victor Martins led the way at the halfway mark with a 1m14.926s time. The Top 3 had Virtuosi’s Amaury Cordeel and Prema’s Frederik Vesti.

Martins’ teammate Theo Pourchaire slotted in fourth from Virtuosi’s Jack Doohan. There was black and white flag shown to Prema’s Oliver Bearman for too many track limits, while the likes of Jak Crawford, Brad Benavides and Enzo Fittipaldi did not have a good time.

The second run saw Martins still set the pace early on with a 1m14.643s lap from Vesti and Pourchaire. There was an off moment for MP Motorsport’s Jehan Daruvala, while PHM Charouz’s Benavides was shown a black and white flag too for track limits.

The last few laps saw improvements but not much on the standings with Martins eventually taking feature F2 race pole in Austria from Vesti and Pourchaire. Campos’ Kush Maini was fourth from Doohan and DAMS’ Ayumu Iwasa, who set a late quick lap.

Fittipaldi was seventh after recovering from early blip like DAMS’ Arthur Leclerc in ninth behind Cordeel. The Top 10 was rounded by Daruvala, who has sprint F2 race pole. Just after the session ended, Iwasa had his time deleted from sixth.

It put Fittipaldi in sixth from Cordeel, Leclerc, Daruvala and Hitech GP’s Crawford who moved up a place to have sprint F2 race pole.

F3:

ART Grand Prix’s Grégoire Saucy secured his first Formula 3 pole position in Spielberg after a dramatic Qualifying session around the Red Bull Ring. PREMA Racing’s Paul Aron had ended the session fastest of all but dropped to P4 after losing his best time for exceeding track limits.

His demotion moved Saucy’s 1:20.457 up into to P1 and PREMA teammate Dino Beganovic onto the front row. The Swede was just 0.004s off Saucy’s pole time, while Championship leader Gabriel Bortoleto secured third place in his #5 Trident.

With patches of rain on the weather radars, everyone was out immediately at the green light. Caio Collet led the way as the rest jostled for track position, and the Van Amersfoort Racing driver set the first time to beat with a 1:21.078.

Franco Colapinto and Mari Boya went quickest consecutively for MP Motorsport before Aron secured the top spot for PREMA Racing on a 1:20.578. He shaved a few hundredths off that on his next effort, lowering the benchmark to a 1:20.518. Beganovic then edged just 0.003s ahead of the Estonian for P1 to cap off a frenetic opening 10 minutes.

Having been bumped down the order as others improved, Collet moved back up to P7 and was one of the only drivers to improve on their second run on their first set of tyres.

With 15 minutes gone, Beganovic headed up Aron, Gabriel Bortoleto, Josep María Martí and Gabriele Minì in the top five. After everyone returned to the pits to fit a fresh set of the soft Pirelli tyres, the track was busy once again with nine minutes remaining.

There were improvements throughout the field, but nobody could leap ahead of either PREMA driver prior to the final two minutes of the session. Colapinto moved up to third while Oliver Goethe went ahead of Bortoleto, fourth and fifth for Trident respectively.

On the final laps, the Championship leader improved to take provisional pole by 0.044s until Beganovic and then Aron usurped him again. The Mercedes junior managed to go fastest of all once more with a 1:20.283, while Saucy was one of the few late improvers ahead of the chequered flag.

There was one final twist though, with Aron losing his would-be pole lap for exceeding track limits. He wasn’t the only driver to lose their lap. Nikita Bedrin had been inside the top five for Jenzer Motorsport but dropped down to P22 after the session finished.

It meant that Collet ended up fifth ahead of Zak O’Sullivan, Colapinto, Goethe, Kaylen Frederick and Christian Mansell inside the top 10. Gabriele Minì and Josep María Martí will start Saturday’s Sprint Race on the front row, with the Campos Racing driver on reverse grid pole after ending Qualifying 12th.
