Nick Cassidy kept Jaguar on top on Day 3 of Formula E test in Valencia by just 0.041s over Maximilian Guenther.

The Jaguar TCS Racing driver set a 1m24.617s to go quickest of all on Friday at Circuit Ricardo Tormo – and 1.5 seconds faster than the best time we saw at testing ahead of Season 9, the inaugural GEN3 campaign.

His late lap saw him pip longstanding timesheet-topping teammate Mitch Evans to the post, thrwarting his countryman’s pitch to seal a clean sweep in Valencia, having set the pace in both of the prior sessions’ running. Evans would end up third on the day.

Cassidy’s time wasn’t the best we’d seen this week, though, with Evans managing better in the opening session by a couple of tenths of a second. Maximilian Guenther had been quickest in three of the last four tests in the Spanish city and the Maserati MSG Racing driver had set the pace last year.

This time, he rounded out the third and final session in second spot between the Jaguars – 0.041 seconds back from Cassidy’s pace. Reigning champion Jake Dennis stuck the #1 Andretti into ninth spot come the chequered flag.

Robin Frijns on his Envision Racing return finished fourth, Pascal Wehrlein in the TAG Heuer Porsche fifth and Norman Nato, on debut for Andretti this week, rounded out the top six. Incredibly, all 21 runners on the day were split by just 0.7 seconds and a little over half a second separated the top 19 runners.

Mitch Evans remained on top on Day 2 of Formula E test in Valencia as they returned to the track post the fire incident.

The Kiwi led the way with a storming 1m24.791s at the last, with the session drawing to a close and meant it was two in two. The Jaguar TCS Racing driver himself then brought the four hour 30 minute session to a slightly premature end as his car stopped out on track.

Evans headed Antonio Felix da Costa, despite the Portuguese only taking part in the final 60 minutes of the running. Rookie Gabriela Jilkova had jumped into the Porsche beforehand for a 46-lap run. Da Costa wound up just 0.023 seconds back of the benchmark time.

Mahindra Racing’s Edoardo Mortara rounded out the top three just under 0.1 seconds back. This was a remarkable effort by the team given the challenges they faced to get a car out on-track following the firs in the paddock that affected their preparations earlier in the week.

He had been top for the vast majority of the session until Evans’ timesheet topper came along. Nick Cassidy and Robin Frijns closed out the top five in the session, Frijns seemingly adapting well to his return to the Envision Racing team, this time in a Teams’ title-winning car as barely half a second split the top 19 drivers.

Meanwhile, the sister Jaguar of Nick Cassidy rounded out the top 10, with both Maserati drivers also making it home inside the first 10 runners – Maximilian Guenther sicth and rookie Jehan Daruvala an impressive eighth. Oliver Rowland also reminded us of the pace he can produce despite a few months out of Formula E with the seventh quickest time of the day.

Back tomorrow…

We’re back on-track from 0830 UTC tomorrow morning, with action running all the way to 1830 UTC as teams take advantage of their only official chance to test together before Season 10 starts proper in Mexico City in mid-January.

Mitch Evans ended first day on top in 2023/24 pre-season test at Valencia, as Formula E had to cut short running due to fire.

Test Session 1 –

The 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship kicked off in earnest with the opening session of the Valencia test from Circuit Ricardo Tormo, as Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans fired to the top of the times. Mitch Evans flew out of the gates in the opening session of the Valencia test with the fastest time of the morning’s running on a 1m24.474s as the chequered flag approached.

The Jaguar TCS Racing driver headed TAG Heuer Porsche’s Antonio Felix da Costa, with the Season 6 champion winding up 0.143s back ahead of third-fastest Sebastien Buemi in the Teams’ title-winning Envision Racing car.

Edoardo Mortara (Mahindra Racing), Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche), Maximilian Guenther (Maserati MSG Racing) and rookie tester Taylor Barnard in the NEOM McLaren rounded out the top seven on the timesheet, all within last year’s fastest time from testing set by Guenther; a 1m25.127s – such has been the pace of development in 10 months since GEN3’s debut outing. We also caught a first glimpse of fast charging in the flesh, with each team trialling the technology for the first time proper in a live Formula E pit-lane.

Early running

Porsche had hit the ground running early on, with Pascal Wehrlein setting a 1m26.167s and da Costa following just a couple of tenths of a second back. The team looked strong throughout GEN3’s inaugural campaign and showed dominant pace through the opening throes. Team Principal Florian Modlinger says that qualifying and one-lap performance has been an off-season focus given their relative struggles in that department as Season 9 wore on.

Rookie Barnard set the timesheets alight to go top at around the half-way stage of the opening session, driving Sam Bird’s NEOM McLaren. The rookie steered to a 1m24.929s, which was well within Maximilian Guenther’s fastest time from the Valencia test last season (a 1m25.127s).

With just under an hour’s running left, Robert Shwartzman at DS PENSKE wound up off-track in Sector 3 required the use of the jib and a precautionary outing from the medical car. The final flurry of times saw Evans the cream rising to the top.

Formula E ends day early due to fire –

Following the incident earlier today, the FIA have advised Formula E and all teams that on-track activities have been cancelled for the rest of the day. This will allow for the area to return to safe working conditions. Further updates will be shared in due course.

UPDATE: Formula E shared an update regarding the person who was taken to hospital, as they have cancelled running on Day 2 with testing action to resume on Thursday once confirmed.

The growth of the electric car industry is undeniable, with more and more motorists swapping their fuel-powered cars for electric vehicles. Apart from the fact that charging stations are appearing everywhere, there’s another milestone you can use to measure the electric car industry’s success, and that is motorsports.

With the introduction of Formula E, electric cars have indeed entered the mainstream. Gone are the days of watching traditional cars whiz by as they try to grab the top spot; hyper-charged electric engines are here to make the point that they can be just as good as their fuel-powered counterparts.

Join us as we look at Formula E and what awaits us in this young and developing competition. It’s an ideal sport for sports bettors around the world. Betting on Formula E is offered on many of the same sites that offer online poker and online casino games.

With generous bonuses and on-the-go access, it’s no wonder more and more people are playing online casino games to bring some excitement into their lives. So, while you’re not playing casino games online, you can watch Formula E.

An overview: what is Formula E?

Formula E is effectively what it sounds like: it’s Formula 1 but for electric cars. The idea became a reality in 2011 after several meetings in Western and Central Europe, and it had its inaugural race championship three years later in Beijing, China. Formula E has had FIA World Championship status since 2020.

How Formula E got its start

Formula E’s beginnings were humble; it was supposed to be an environmentally-friendly alternative to Formula One racing, while displaying the potential of future electric vehicles and technology. It started as a simple idea, written on a napkin at a Parisian restaurant one late evening in 2011, and has since become a global phenomenon.

Nowadays, Formula E is one of the world’s most talked about motorsports, spawning over 35 races per year in 13 different cities across the globe. It has even garnered the attention of prestigious car manufacturers such as Audi, Porsche and Mercedes Benz, to name but a few.

How Formula E cars developed throughout the years

Since 2014, Formula E cars have gone through several generations of tech. Formula E is currently in its third generation of vehicles.

Here’s how the development went:

  • Generation 1, from 2014-2018: Engines had an approximately three-second acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph), with a FIA-regulated top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph). Motors were allowed to develop 200 kW in race mode, 230 kW in passing mode and 150 kW in power-saving mode.
  • Generation 2, from 2018-2022: Gen 2’s engines had improved acceleration, achieving 100 km/h (62 mph) in approximately 2.8 seconds. FIA also increased the allowable top speed to 280 km/h (174 mph). Engines were still only allowed to have 200 kW in normal race mode but were allowed to use 250 kW in boost mode.
  • Generation 3, from 2022-present: The current generation of engines enjoys an even higher legal top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph) and 350 kW engine power.

Notable Formula E drivers to watch

It’s to be expected that fans will root for their favorite drivers. If you don’t have one yet and are looking for a reason to support one, here are some top options:

Sébastien Buemi

Born in 1988, Sébastien Buemi is a Swiss professional racing driver who started his first professional tournament at the young age of 10. With many wins under his belt, he currently competes in the FIA Formula E for Team Envision. He was previously a Formula One driver, until 2014.

In the 2017 racing season, he became the first Formula E driver to take home three consecutive wins, and he went on to win three more races that season, in Monaco, Berlin and Paris. Sébastien is still racing for Team Envision, although his teammate left for Team Jaguar.

Lucas di Grassi

Lucas di Grassi is a Formula E driver born in 1984 and currently driving for Mahindra Racing. He became the 2016-2017 Formula E champion and had 13 victories that season. Previously having raced in Formula One, he became interested in Formula E in 2015 but was hesitant at first. He eventually came around to the idea of a more environmentally-friendly form of motorsport to get people to appreciate electric vehicles more.

Lucas has driven many vehicles in his career, from test driving with Pirelli and racing in Porsche Endurance races to racing in the illustrious 24-hour Le Mans race.

Sam Bird

Born in 1987, Sam Bird currently races for the McLaren branch of Formula E. However, his roots go back to 2005 with Formula BMW, where he really made a name for himself by taking home many trophies, including winning the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship. He was also a runner-up in the 2016 Endurance World Championship.

Nowadays, Bird competes actively in Formula E and frequently takes a spot on the podium. With 13 Formula E races under his belt, he is certainly someone to look out for on the racetrack.

Jean-Éric Vergne

Born in 1990 and known as Jev, Vergne started his motorsport journey at the young age of four, when he was introduced to karting. Jev became the first Formula E driver to win two Formula E championships, in the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons. Like most Formula E drivers, he competed in Formula One between 2012 and 2014 before jumping ship to electric racecars. With many podium finishes, he is undoubtedly a contender as one of the best Formula E drivers out there.

Mitch Evans

Born in 1994 in New Zealand, Mitch Evans is a serious contender in FIA Formula E. Evans enjoyed a promising start to his career when he became a champion 100cc kart racer. Although he has not yet won a Formula E championship, he has had many podium finishes with his team at Jaguar before finally finishing second in the 2021-2022 season.

Full of potential at 29, Evans can still win a championship based on his previous ever-improving podium finishes.

Final thoughts

Formula E is certainly still a relatively new sport but it’s just as exciting as Formula One. It’s also a much more environmentally-friendly form of racing that uses batteries rather than fuel. Its existence reminds us that when fossil fuels run out, we’ll still have a fun form of high-speed, high-octane racing for everyone to enjoy and watch, albeit in quieter circumstances than before.

Maserati MSG Racing has unveiled its livery for the 2023/24 FIA Formula E season ahead of the Valencia pre-season test.

After embracing a historic new era for the Trident in 2023, Maserati MSG Racing is proud to continue its journey in the FIA Formula E World Championship by revealing its Season 10 challenger, the Maserati Tipo Folgore.

Unveiled on the eve of pre-season testing at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain, the Maserati Tipo Folgore features the same proven race-winning technology from Season 9, paired with a new aesthetic, representing the Maserati brand’s distinguished heritage in motorsport and its continued innovative electrification journey.

Maserati Tipo Folgore – which refers to Maserati’s all-electric range – stands as a perfect bridge between the past and future, with the aim of representing the marque in the new era of motorsport: a choice perfectly in line with Maserati’s strategic plans and its predisposition for innovation.

The new Maserati Tipo Folgore showcases the Rame Folgore (Copper Glance) colour accents on the rear, evoking the characteristic tone of Maserati’s new generation of electric cars, which will represent the entire product range by 2030. Formula E’s ninth season heralded the Italian marque’s return to World Championship single-seater competition, as the Trident entered to the grid for the first time since last racing in Formula One 66 years earlier.

The campaign saw several breakthrough performances, including two pole positions, four podiums, and a landmark victory in Jakarta – a historic result which marked the Maserati brand’s first single-seater race win since the 1957 German Grand Prix.

Featuring an iconic blue hue, synonymous with Maserati, the Maserati Tipo Folgore’s Season 10 livery represents a statement of intent, and by incorporating contemporary copper detailing, points to the color of Folgore – the color of the future. Using Formula E’s ground-breaking Gen3 package – the fastest and most-energy efficient vehicle to compete in the World Championship to-date – the car represents the very benchmark of electric vehicle performance.

With a power output of 350kW, the car has a top speed of more than 200mph, while with 600kW regenerative braking capabilities, ensures that 40% of all energy used during races is sourced from regen. Courtesy of the development of race-to-road technologies, Formula E and Maserati MSG Racing will play a critical role in the Maserati brand’s electrification journey as innovation on the track is transferred to its automotive range.

Featuring 17 rounds, including a new race in Tokyo, Japan, Formula E’s 10th season will be the series’ biggest to-date and will commence on January 13, 2024, in Mexico City following the completion of pre-season testing.

Andretti Autosport has unveiled a new livery for the 2023/24 FIA Formula E Championship with a combo of red, white and blue.

When Andretti Formula E takes to the track in Valencia for official pre-season testing, the charter FIA Formula E team will be the first of the Andretti Global family of race teams to showcase the brand’s new identity. Season 10 teammates, reigning Formula E World Champion Jake Dennis and series race winner Norman Nato, will debut a special red, white and blue Andretti Global livery October 24 at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, the home of Dennis’ maiden series victory in Season 7.

The launch of Andretti Global is a significant milestone in the team’s distinguished legacy that has unified all aspects of the organization under a single identity. The American outfit currently operates in eight motorsports platforms racing across six continents boasting over 260 wins with an appetite to expand its worldwide footprint into other major motorsports series.

“Andretti Global is built on a foundation of racing excellence, and it’s been rewarding to see our history and success come together in such a seamless, visual way,” said Michael Andretti, CEO and Chairman of Andretti Global. “The special Formula E livery we’re running in Valencia is a great representation of what we set out to achieve with this rebrand, and it’s fitting that the first time the Andretti Global brand will be on full display will be riding along with a reigning World Champion.”

In addition to the special livery design, Dennis will sport a new number on his Porsche 99X Electric. As a fitting acknowledgement to his Season 9 success, he will run the prestigious No. 1 for the duration of Season 10, a privilege reserved only for the reigning Driver Champion. Having chosen to use the No. 1 for the upcoming season, Dennis added, “I’ve always wanted to earn the right to use the No. 1 at some point in my career, and to do so for the first time in our new Andretti Global livery makes the moment even more special.”

Joining the defending Champion on the track will be recently signed, Norman Nato. The Frenchman’s Porsche 99x Electric will bear the No. 17, a heartfelt tribute to his late compatriot and friend Jules Bianchi. Sharing his thoughts on his meaningful choice, Nato said, “I’m proud to race under the No. 17 for the upcoming season – the number means a lot to me. I started in karting and won championships with the 17, but Jules also raced with the number, which makes it even more special. It’s a tribute to a great friend and an outstanding driver.”

Pre-season testing will also provide another opportunity for Barbadian driver, Zane Maloney, to represent the team in the mandatory rookie session. The current Formula 2 driver previously enjoyed outings with the team earlier this year, participating in the team’s rookie sessions in both Berlin and Rome.

Andretti Formula E heads into the highly anticipated landmark 10th season having already achieved 10 wins, 12 poles and a Driver Championship dating back to Formula E’s inaugural race in 2014. The unveiling of the special Andretti Global livery in Valencia sets the stage for an exciting new chapter to be written into the team’s racing history.

The NIO 333 name is gone after the Chinese car company ends its term which leads to the team now being called as ERT Formula E Team.

ERT Formula E Team comes after the seven-season partnership with Chinese car manufacturer NIO draws to a conclusion as the long-standing team heads towards their 10th season in the all-electric racing series.

The outfit are coming off the back of one of their best seasons in recent years. In the hands of Dan Ticktum and Sergio Sette Camara, who will continue with the team in Season 10, the combined effort saw one the team’s best seasons in recent years.

The pair demonstrated an impressive one-lap pace with 10 Duels appearances, converting these top 10 starting positions into nine point-scoring finishes and ending the season in ninth in the overall Teams’ standings.

Based out of their headquarters at the Silverstone Race Circuit, as part of the ERT ‘rebirth’ the team will look to commercialise their technology and IP and apply this on-track learning to road products, along with supporting the wider industry to push sustainable transport solutions.

“We are proud to unveil our new identity as the ERT Formula E Team, it is an exciting step in our journey,” said Alex Hui, Team Principal for ERT Formula E Team on the new journey ahead. As the only manufacturer Formula E team that is not currently tied to an OEM, our powertrain and software development has been done independently, putting us in a unique position.

“Utilising what we have learnt on track, we have already identified that we have a lot to offer in terms of improving electric vehicle performance, not just in relation to powertrains but whole vehicle engineering support and solutions, something which is already proving of interest within the automotive and motorsport industries.

“It is a natural progression for us to move forward commercialising this knowledge with the increasing global adoption of EVs, particularly as Formula E provides such a strong platform for OEMs and as such our conversations with partners in this arena are already advanced.”

ERT have been in the series since the dawn of Formula E, with Nelson Piquet Jnr taking the inaugural Drivers’ title with the team in the 2014/15 season. There have been a few name changes since then with NIO joining the squad in Season 3 to kick off a seven-year partnership that most recently saw the team under the moniker of NIO 333 Racing.

The ERT Formula E Team are expected to unveil their fresh new look before the official pre-season test kicks on at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain next week.

The FIA Formula E has revealed the 2023/24 calendar as the Indian round stays on with China joining in but Jakarta is off.

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship today announced a return to China and India for the milestone 10th season of the world’s leading electric motor racing series, making it the only motorsport to stage events during 2024 in the world’s three most populous countries: China, India and the USA.

Shanghai and Hyderabad were confirmed as host cities in Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship following approval at the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting on 19 October. Formula E will race for the first time in Shanghai at the Shanghai International Circuit with a double-header of races on Saturday, 25 May and Sunday, 26 May 2024.

The first-ever Formula E race was held in Beijing on 13 September 2014 with a second instalment following a year later. Sanya then hosted the most recent Chinese E-Prix in 2019, with Formula E also racing in Hong Kong on four occasions over three seasons between Seasons 2 and 5.

There are two further updates to the Season 10 calendar. The event planned for Jakarta on Saturday, 8 June will not go ahead following the announcement of a campaigning period in the Indonesian presidential elections during most of June. This would impact the logistics of delivering a race on the streets of the capital city at the same time. Formula E and the authorities in Jakarta are exploring the feasibility of racing in the city on an alternative date.

The second update is a likely venue change in Italy for Rounds 7 and 8. This follows a review by experts at Formula E and the FIA into the Season 9 races in Rome, where the new faster, more powerful GEN3 car reached the limits of the narrow, sharp-turning circuit in Rome’s business district. Formula E is exploring alternative venues, including permanent circuits, to maintain an event in the key Italian market. An update on the venue in Italy is expected before the end of the year.

Alberto Longo, Co-Founder & Chief Championship Officer, Formula E, said: “Without doubt our Season 10 calendar is the most compelling yet for drivers, teams, fans and viewers around the world. We are taking Formula E to Shanghai for the first time and are honoured to return to India thanks to the support of the Telangana Government and Minister K. T. Rama Rao. The combination of street circuits, which is in Formula E’s DNA, and established race tracks will allow drivers to push the capabilities of the GEN3 car harder and further after a first season that beat all expectations with triple-digit overtakes in most races and the world championship titles decided on the final weekend.”

Jeff Dodds, CEO, Formula E, said: “Formula E will lead global motorsport next season as the only world championship to race in the three biggest markets of China, India and the USA. Together with our debut on the streets of Tokyo and races in other major global markets like Brazil, Germany, Saudi Arabia and the UK, we have built a calendar that has the potential to engage billions of people in the exciting, entertaining, electric future of motorsport.”

Marek Nawarecki, Director, FIA Circuit Sport Department, said: “The 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season promises to play host to some fascinating action, with a range of circuits that will truly showcase the qualities of the GEN3 car. In addition to the return of Hyderabad, Formula E will be heading back to China, whilst also organising a brand new race in Tokyo. The growing presence of the championship in Asia is a very positive development, that will benefit fans and manufacturers alike.”

Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship begins in Mexico City on Saturday, 13 January 2024. There are 16 rounds scheduled in 11 cities before the season climax in London on the weekend of Saturday, 20 July and Sunday, 21 July.

Jaguar Racing and McLaren have unveiled new FIA Formula E challengers for 2023/24 season with a new line-up but somewhat similar livery to last year.

Jaguar –

Between Kiwis Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy, they hold 15 wins, 37 podiums, 11 pole positions and 1,076 championship points in Formula E, in addition to a lifetime of shared experiences as the duo grew up together racing in New Zealand.

Jaguar TCS Racing start the new season as a strong contender, having completed the 2023 season with four wins, 11 podiums, three pole positions, and 292 points, improving on and surpassing the achievements gained in previous seasons of Formula E. The 2023 season was also the third year in succession that the British team fought for the team or drivers’ titles up to the last race of the season.

The formidable Jaguar I-TYPE 6 made up both the first and second position in the Teams’ World Championship, after customer team Envision Racing won the overall championship. It demonstrates the pace and competitiveness of the Jaguar I-TYPE 6 as, with Envision Racing, it won half the races in the championship (eight), secured 20 podiums, six pole positions and 596 Championship points. With this record of results, the Jaguar I-TYPE 6 has established itself as one the marque’s most successful cars in a long and illustrious linage of competition cars.

Jaguar TCS Racing and their drivers kick off the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship at official testing in Valencia next week. Returning for the rookie test session is South African Sheldon Van Der Linde. It marks the third time the 2022 DTM champion has driven in a rookie test for the team after delivering successful sessions earlier this year in Berlin and Rome.

The team also continue to be joined by their world-class portfolio of partners that support and contribute to the team’s mission and constant drive to innovate new technologies to drive performance, advance electric vehicle technologies and provide inspiration for the next generation. This includes title partner Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wolfspeed, Dow, Castrol, and OpenText. Official suppliers Alpinestars and AERO will also continue to support the team.

Formula E continues to be a real-world test bed for Jaguar TCS Racing, as the team innovates and develops new technologies, improving efficiency and ultimately performance in their aim for World Championship success. This cutting-edge development powers race-to-road learning for JLR to support future road car programmes. The innovation and technology transfer from the Jaguar I-TYPE 6 will support the reimagination of Jaguar as an all-electric, modern luxury brand from 2025.

Racing in the world’s first net zero carbon sport with the world’s first net zero carbon race car aligns to JLR’s commitment to have zero tailpipe emissions and to achieve carbon net zero across its supply chain, products and operations by 2039 as part of its Reimagine strategy.

Team boss James Barclay: “Everyone at Jaguar TCS Racing is hugely motivated, recharged and ready to be racing again in the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Last season saw some incredibly competitive racing in the pinnacle of electric motorsport and we are all very proud of the car we produced and how we performed in what was our most successful season to date. As a team, we are always striving for the next step and we are incredibly motivated to once again fight for the World Championship in 2024.

“We have come incredibly close for the last three seasons and this consistency is testament to everyone in the organisation. With Nick joining the team alongside Mitch, I believe we have the driver line-up to help us with this objective. This tenth season of Formula E brings with it the addition of a new race in Tokyo, an iconic and important city that once again reinforces Formula E’s World Championship and pinnacle of electric racing status. We look forward to the new challenges it will bring and to seeing Japanese fans enjoying Formula E.”

Mitch Evans: “Last season the team and I experienced some amazing highs but also some lows together – which is common in motorsport. To achieve four wins was great and getting another top three finish in the drivers’ championship is something I’m proud of. 2023 was a good year, but obviously left us wanting more as a team. And that has ultimately spurred us on for the upcoming season and I am determined to fight for the World Championship again. I’ve come so close for a number of years now.”

Nick Cassidy: “Last season was my best performance in Formula E to date and it felt incredible to bring the fight for the World Championship down to the final weekend. Joining Jaguar TCS Racing is a really exciting move for me, and I am hungrier than ever. I can’t wait to see what Mitch, the team and I can achieve together when we hit the race track in January.”

McLaren –

The NEOM McLaren Formula E Team today unveiled its livery for the 2023/24 season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The design is centred around the unique NEOM McLaren Electric Racing signature linework, while still being recognisably part of the McLaren Racing family.

Ian James, Managing Director, NEOM McLaren Electric Racing and Team Principal, NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, said: “As we prepare to go racing in our second season in Formula E, we are building on everything we learnt in Season 9. We are continually evolving as a team and this livery represents that. I can’t wait to see the car with this new livery on track at all the iconic locations we will be visiting in Season 10.”

The 2023/24 season will mark the team’s second season in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, after entering the championship for the first time last year. The team finished P8 overall, with highlights including a P3 finish in Diriyah and two pole positions.

The NEOM McLaren Formula E Team will be in action later this month when official testing begins (23 – 27 October 2023, in Valencia, Spain) ahead of the first round of Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the Mexico City E-Prix, on 13 January 2024.

Porsche Motorsport has announced the retention of Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa for the 2023/24 Formula E season.

The countdown to season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship begins with the official test in Valencia from 24 to 27 October. The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team will conduct tests at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo with Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa, who will return in 2024 to compete as teammates in the Porsche 99X Electric. The first race of the new season will be contested at the Mexico City E-Prix on 23 January 2024.

For the eleven teams and 22 drivers tackling the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the tests in Valencia are an important benchmark to gauge where they stand before the new season gets underway. Six test sessions are planned at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo. The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team heads to Spain with the Porsche 99X Electric decked out in the same livery as last season and driven by its regular drivers Pascal Wehrlein (#94) and António Félix da Costa (#13).

While the pair contest their second Formula E season together, reigning world champion Jake Dennis will be joined by a new teammate in the successful Porsche customer team Andretti Formula E: For Norman Nato (FRA), 2024 marks the first season at the wheel of the Porsche 99X Electric for the team owned by the American motorsport legend Michael Andretti.

The FIA and Formula E have also included rookies in the programme at Valencia. The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team opens the door for Czech Gabriela Jílková to gain her first experience in the innovative electric racing series in the Porsche 99X Electric. To date, the racing driver from Prague has mainly contested GT4 championships.  She  celebrated her first victory in the LMP3 prototype class in Zandvoort earlier this year.

Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E“We used the time to take a deep look at last season. We analysed our strengths and weaknesses to gauge the potential that is yet to be tapped in our package. With regards to season 10, our priority was to work on further developing the software to make our four 99X Electric cars even more competitive. Another important aspect we were working on was to improve our qualifying performance. We’ll use the test in Valencia to continue to systematically and meticulously prepare for the upcoming season as manufacturer and team. Our goal for 2024 is to maintain our good race performance and make more improvements in qualifying. Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa will be joined by Gabriela Jílková in Valencia. She has already supported us in the simulator, now we’re giving her the chance to show what she can do on the racetrack as well.”

Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche works driver (#94): “The test in Valencia marks the start of the new season. We’ve been busy with preparations for weeks, and we’ve already done stints in the simulator. I’m certain we’ve made further progress. Last season we learned a lot, which we can build on now. For Valencia, it’s important to be well prepared to be able to roll out our test programme without any issues and gain further insights. There are some minor changes for the new season. Valencia will certainly help us to fully understand them. Then, we can get stuck in.”

António Félix da Costa, Porsche works driver (#13): “I’m looking forward to Valencia. The test is always cool because all of the teams and drivers are there. This gives us a chance to show where we stand against the competition, to see where we’re already strong and where we might need to make some improvements. The preparation for season 10 is going much better for me than last season’s preparation. I was new to the team last year and getting used to the car. This time everything is easier. I used the Formula E break to contest endurance races in the Porsche 963, spend time with my family and friends and prepare myself mentally and physically for the new season.”

DS Penske has showcased a tweaked livery for the upcoming Formula E season as they go for shiny gold and black combination.

DS PENSKE is excited to unveil the Team’s new racing car livery for the Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. This season, the DS PENSKE livery takes a dramatic and eye catching step forward, reversing the chrome and black from last year to give the Team’s Gen 3 car even more on-track presence.

This is combined with an aggressive new vector shape on the sidepod encompassing the team partner DS Automobiles and driving the car forward from all angles, even when stationary. Sean Bull, DS PENSKE head of Design, comments ‘With it being a clear and dramatic evolution on last year’s design we wanted to make the lines of the car fit even better with the exciting shapes of the Gen 3 car.

Extremely proud of this design and the combination of working closely with team and DS Automobiles we believe we have improved upon perfection.  Jean-Éric Vergne, two-time Formula E Champion, and Stoffel Vandoorne, 2022 Formula E World Champion will take the first laps in the new design  at the traditional pre-season testing days at the Circuit Ricardo Tomo, in Valencia, Spain, from October 24 to 27th, 2023.

Jay Penske – Owner & Team Principal: “The new livery launch kicks off the start of the season and ignites everyone’s passion and desire to go out and give 110%. I think this design, like the team is a great example of how we never stop moving forward, we never settle. It would be easy to run the same livery as we did in Season 9, but that’s not our approach and never has been. The livery like the team gets better every year. I’m looking forward to a very solid, productive and competitive pre-season testing in Valencia followed by a run at the championship starting in Mexico City.”

Jean-Éric Vergne – Formula E Champion in 2018 and 2019: “Unveiling the new look of the car is always an exciting time of year for the team and I share everyone’s enthousiasm. This livery is undoubtedly more modern, more golden. Most importantly It is a checkpoint in the pre-season calendar, we are two weeks away from the official test days in Valencia, the whole team has been preparing very hard for this event and I can’t just wait to get started!”

Stoffel Vandoorne – 2022 Formula E World Champion: “I like this new livery, it looks fast and aggressive ! We head into a new season and our ultimate goal is to deliver strong performances and return to points-paying finishes. Racing at the front requires resilience, hard work and determination, I will leave no stone unturned in the chase for every millisecond and get our black and gold car back in front!”

Lucas di Grassi is back with ABT Motorsport to join Nico Mueller for the 2023/24 FIA Formula E Championship season.

The most successful Formula E driver is coming home: from the new season, which starts in Mexico in mid-January, Lucas di Grassi will once again be competing for ABT – the team with which he experienced his greatest triumphs and most emotional moments. Together with the Swiss Nico Müller, the Brazilian forms the new driver pairing in the ABT CUPRA team, which was only founded last year. After its comeback with many challenges this year, the team wants to take the next steps in the new season.

“We are happy that we have brought Lucas back to ABT – he was and is a good friend of our whole team and is one of Formula E’s greats of the past ten years,” says Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO of the ABT Group. Ten years ago, ABT was the first German team to join the championship and returned as a private team in 2023 after a one-year break.

“We know about the great challenge of battling against international competition as a small customer team,” says Thomas Biermaier, ABT CEO and Team Principal. “That’s why experience, technical know-how and full passion for the joint project count all the more for us – with Lucas, we have the perfect man on board for the future.”

The 39-year-old Brazilian’s Formula E CV leaves few questions open: Lucas di Grassi has won the most trophies of all Formula E drivers (40), the most victories (13) and the most fastest laps (12). He is one of only two drivers to have been on the podium at least once in every season. He won the drivers’

championship in the third season (2016/2017) and the team championship a year later. After seven years with the ABT team, he first competed for Venturi Racing and this year for Mahindra Racing, whose powertrain ABT CUPRA sources as a customer team.

“It just feels great to be back with ABT,” says Lucas di Grassi. “Not only did I win two titles with this team, but I also have endless memories with all the people who work there with so much passion. I couldn’t be more excited to return after two years and I’m really looking forward to working together. Together, we will give our all to get back, step by step, the results that the whole team deserves.”

Lucas di Grassi will compete alongside Nico Müller for the first time for his new old team at the official ABB FIA Formula E World Championship tests in Valencia. All drivers of the championship will meet in Spain from 23 to 27 October to prepare for the season.

DS Penske has retained both Jean-Eric Vergne and Stoffel Vandoorne for the 2023/24 Formula E season.

DS PENSKE is delighted to announce that Jean-Éric Vergne and Stoffel Vandoorne will continue to lead its driver line-up for the upcoming season. The duo has been paired together since the announcement of the partnership between Penske Autosport and the French automotive brand DS Automobiles in Season 9.

Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship saw the team compete in 16 races across 9 different countries.  After a fierce and highly competitive season, the Team took away a collection of excellent results. Two-time champion Jean-Éric Vergne brought home three podiums, including one historic victory in Hyderabad, India, second place in Cape Town, South Africa, and third place in Berlin, Germany. While, 2022 Formula E champion Stoffel Vandoorne set an outstanding pole position in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The Team with his partner DS Automobiles finished fifth in the Championship and is focused on more for Season 10. The team has one of the strongest pairing on the grid and is determined to fight to return to the very front of the pack where it belongs.

Jay Penske – Owner & Team Principal: “I am very excited to continue with Jean-Éric Vergne and Stoffel Vandoorne behind the wheels of our Gen3 car. It was a straightforward decision for the team to keep intact what is unquestionably one of the strongest pairings on the grid. Season 9 was one of growth and we have learned from every success but also every setback.  None of us were satisfied with finishing fifth in the Championship. We know we can do better and with JEV and Stoffel bringing an incredibly high racing IQ combined with an unwaivering desire to win we intend to be challenging for the World Championship in Season 10.”

Jean-Éric Vergne – Formula E Champion in 2018 and 2019: “Very happy to continue the adventure with DS PENSKE. Same team mate, same Gen 3 car. As one chapter closes, we have to focus on what is ahead. I love racing, and above all, I love winning, this is a very special feeling that I want to live again with the team. I have a real relationship of trust with the engineers and the mechanics, their dedication and hard work is truly inspiring. I want to reward the belief that Jay Penske and the rest of the team placed in me. At a start of a season, all the points start back to zero. With Stoffel, we form a solid duo. We had a couple of good races and we are working extremely hard to come back to the top.We just got to try and do better, we will not stop until we do. My absolute focus and determination are at the highest, my motivation totally intact, even greater than the years before to bring some new titles with the Team.”

Stoffel Vandoorne – 2022 Formula E World Champion: “I am delighted to continue the journey we started a year ago with the team. Consistency and stability will be the foundations of our future success. JEV and I are one of the best duos on the set. We have made some significant steps over the last season and we are getting stronger together. Consistency in performance is our aim for this upcoming season. The ultimate goal is to win the championship. I am excited to help continue to build on that momentum and pick up plenty of trophies with the team!”

A breakthrough 2019 season, which saw him emerge as a key title protagonist in FIA Formula 3, facilitated Jehan’s progression to Formula One feeder category, Formula 2, in 2020.

With four race wins and 18 podiums in Formula 2, the 24-year-old has forged a respected reputation as one of the series’ fiercest competitors, and with critical Gen3 experience, will bring a fresh perspective ahead of pre-season testing this October. Since becoming Formula E’s youngest race winner in only his 13th E-Prix start, Max has long been a driver destined for success and continues to be one of the series’ most promising young talents.

Despite being aged only 26, Max is one of the most experienced hands on the current Formula E grid and enjoyed a breakout first season with Maserati MSG Racing in 2023. By securing two pole positions, four podiums, and the Maserati brand’s first victory in World Championship single-seaters since Juan Manuel Fangio in 1957, Max not only completed his most successful season in Formula E to date but also rewrote history.

‍In Season 10, the German will embark on his sixth campaign in World Championship motorsport as he aims to reach new heights by building upon past successes. Max and Jehan will continue their preparations for the 2023/24 campaign in pre-season testing at Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo from 23-27 October.‍

James Rossiter, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing‍: “We’re excited about our driver lineup for Season 10, and we’re confident that the blend of Max’s experience with Jehan’s determination will prove to be a competitive combination. Max impressed us throughout the 2022/23 season, and continuing our relationship was a natural decision. He has brilliant speed, a strong understanding of Formula E’s Gen3 package, and with five seasons of experience – despite being aged only 26 – has an impressive amount of knowledge. That experience will be invaluable for Jehan, who has already shown good promise in his two rookie test outings with Mahindra earlier this year.

“Over the past four years, he has shown hunger and determination in Formula 2, and has clearly demonstrated that he has what it takes to win races. Now, Jehan is ready to do the work it takes to succeed in Formula E. In Season 9, we faced many highs and lows, but we learned a great deal from every scenario we faced. After making some positive performance gains over the Summer, we’re looking forward to getting Season 10 underway, and with our lineup, we’re confident that we can be in a position to fight at the front of the grid.”

Maximilian Günther, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing‍: “I’m very proud to continue with Maserati MSG Racing. We had a great first season together, particularly with the momentum we built in the second half of the year with one win, four podiums and two poles. Continuing to build on this base is something that I‘m very much looking forward to in 2024, alongside working with Jehan as my new teammate. After seeing our performance trajectory unfold this year, I‘m confident we can go on to achieve bigger and better things in the future.”

Jehan Daruvala, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing‍: “Formula E is a championship that I have admired for a long time, and after taking part in two test sessions, I’m very happy to have the opportunity to step up to a full-time race seat. From my experiences so far, the Gen3 car is completely unique to drive, but I’ve found it to be a very rewarding experience. I would like to thank James and Maserati MSG Racing for giving me this chance and I can’t wait to learn more about the car and get to know the team better in pre-season testing, before hitting the ground running in Mexico City in January.”

Giovanni Tommaso Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse:  “We’re delighted to welcome Jehan to the Maserati family. Together with Max, they will form a talented young pairing, and we are excited ahead of the new season. Every year, Formula E fields experienced drivers alongside some of motorsport’s most promising young talents, confirming itself as the series of the future. We’re confident that Jehan’s arrival will give an extra boost to the whole team.

“He will also be making a major contribution thanks to his previous experience as a test driver. For us, Maserati Corse means going beyond competition, a concept perfectly encapsulated in our spirit to “race beyond”; by confirming our adventure in Formula E with a deserving driver like Max and a promising rookie like Jehan, we approach the new season with the determination and passion needed to once again make a difference on the track and hopefully in motorsport history.”

Nyck de Vries will make his Formula E return alongside Edoardo Mortara in an all-new line-up at Mahindra Racing.

Mahindra Racing is delighted to announce the signings of Nyck De Vries and Edoardo Mortara on multi-year contracts to compete for the team from Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Season 10 marks a new chapter in the history of Mahindra Racing – the only Indian team on the grid and the last of FIA Formula E’s founding teams to compete in its original identity. The signing of two drivers of Mortara’s and De Vries’ calibre and experience is a positive step on the team’s journey towards becoming Championship contenders once more, after a difficult start to the new Gen3 regulations in Season 9.

De Vries returns to Formula E, in which he became the inaugural World Champion back in Season 7, after a stint competing in Formula 1 for Williams and Scuderia AlphaTauri. With four career ePrix victories, and a further four podium finishes to his name, the 28-year-old’s experience and status as a Championship contender will be an essential asset to the team moving forward.

After an impressive career in karting, the Dutch star enjoyed an equally-celebrated rise through the single-seater ranks, first winning the 2014 Formula Renault Eurocup, before building on subsequent front-running campaigns in Formula Renault 3.5 and GP3 Series with the 2019 FIA Formula 2 title.

De Vries will be joined at the team for Season 10 by another of FIA Formula E’s biggest stars – Swiss- Italian driver Edoardo Mortara. The 36-year-old burst onto the scene in 2010, winning both the Formula Three Euroseries crown and triumphing twice on the world-famous streets of Macau.

After a long-standing career as one of the DTM’s leading lights, Mortara returned to single seaters in 2017 with his Formula E debut in Hong Kong, and made an immediate impact, scoring a podium with second place on his first weekend in the category. He took his maiden victory at the same venue a year later and has since added five further triumphs – plus six additional podiums – to his CV.

Notably, this new driver pairing forges a partnership between the two chief title protagonists in Season 7, with Mortara finishing just seven points adrift of eventual World Champion, De Vries. The acquisition of two of the sport’s most exciting talents marks a new chapter in the team’s history, with a vision to return to Championship contention in the coming years. A striking new livery for the team’s cars will be unveiled prior to the season opener in Mexico City on January 13, 2024.

Speaking on the acquisition of De Vries and Mortara, Mahindra Racing CEO Frédéric Bertrand said: “I am delighted to welcome Edo and Nyck to the Mahindra Racing family.  As a team, we are all embarking on a journey to bring Mahindra Racing back to the front of the grid in the coming years.”

“With their speed and experience, Nyck and Edo will play a key role in driving the team towards that goal, and I know everybody is feeling very motivated to work with them. Equally important for the team are the drivers’ appetites for a long-term project, which makes them the perfect fit for Mahindra Racing at the beginning of this journey.”

“We anticipate next year will be another year of development and progress, and in a championship like Formula E, success is impossible to achieve overnight. But the signing of Nyck and Edo, along with new recruits within the wider team, puts down a solid foundation on which we can build.”

“Much as Mahindra Automotive seeks to lead a revolution in the commercial space, we aim to match that ambition and innovation on the track. The support and synergy across the brand between both programmes will be invaluable as we aim to similarly make progress on-track.”

Edoardo Mortara commented: “I’m extremely excited to be joining Mahindra Racing. It’s a team that I’ve been looking at for several years now, they have been in Formula E since the beginning of the Championship, so there’s a lot of experience there.”

“What I could also feel from the people here is that we share the same values. We have a great project in front of us, but I can see a lot of determination and motivation from everyone in the team, and this is so important.”

“Mahindra is also such a big automotive manufacturer, with a worldwide reputation. I’m extremely proud to join and be a representative of this prestigious group. I can’t wait to get started, and I’m sure that, if we put in the necessary amount of work, we will be able to be successful in this very competitive championship in the future.”

Nyck de Vries commented: “It’s really exciting to be joining such a major automotive manufacturer as Mahindra, and to represent them in Formula E.”

“I’m particularly excited about the future plans for the team. The basis is already strong, and the team has all the attributes to succeed. I believe going forwards we will be able to extract even more potential from the project and the organisation, so to be a part of that process was very appealing for me.

“I think it’s no secret that the team has had a bit of a rough start to Gen3, although there were positive signs of improvement during the second half of last season. I believe the team can continue to build on those learnings, and with the additional changes and plans in place for the future, we can make even greater steps forward in performance at the start of our new journey together.

“Coming back to Formula E will feel like coming home. I’ve been part of the Formula E family for three seasons, I know everybody very well. I’m looking forward to being back in a familiar environment, and to be back somewhere where ultimately, I’ve always enjoyed my racing.”

De Vries and Mortara’s preparations for Season 10 will step up another notch next month [23-27 October] at the series’ official pre-season test in Valencia, Spain, at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo.

Lucas di Grassi and Mahindra Racing have mutually decided to part ways and not continue their partnership for 2023/24 Formula E season.

Lucas di Grassi, Formula E’s record appearance-maker wiith 115 starts to his name from the very first race of the GEN1 era, is set to leave Mahindra Racing, the team have announced. The Brazilian stated that his and the team’s visions no longer aligned and said in a statement on X: “I want to express my gratitude to all our team members for the experiences we shared during what proved to be a challenging year.

“This decision ultimately benefits us both, as our perspectives and visions have diverged. I wish Mahindra Racing the brightest future ahead!” The Season 3 champion is also Formula E’s joint-record race winner – tied with Sebastien Buemi on 13. His win percentage is right up there too, third in the overall charts.

Di Grassi also won the series’ first race in Beijing, back in 2014. “On behalf of everybody at Mahindra Racing, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Lucas for his contribution to the team over the past year,” said Fred Bertrand, Mahindra Racing CEO.

“Lucas has played a valuable and integral role since joining us ahead of the GEN3 era, but both parties feel the time is right to pursue other options for the future. He will always remain part of the Mahindra Racing family, and leaves with nothing but our best wishes for his future endeavours.”

A tough Season 9

After winding up fifth, having challenged for the title in GEN2’s swansong season, di Grassi switched to Mahindra for the inaugural GEN3 campaign. A strong start with pole and third position come the opening round in Mexico City would be his high for the season, with just two points finishes following. He outscored his teammates, however, with Oliver Rowland leaving the outfit mid-season being replaced by Roberto Merhi. Mahindra Racing ended Season 9 in 10th position in the Teams’ World Championship.

Edoardo Mortara has decided not to continue with Maserati MSG Racing in FIA Formula E as he bids goodbye after six seasons together.

Following on from the conclusion of Formula E’s ninth season, Maserati MSG Racing and Edoardo Mortara would like to take the opportunity to confirm that the Swiss-Italian driver will not continue with the team into Season 10 of the FIA Formula E World Championship.

Edo joined the team in 2017 under its previous guise as Venturi, and after finishing on the podium in only his second E-Prix start, kick-started an acclaimed six-season collaboration which would become one of the longest-standing and most successful driver-team partnerships in the series.

Together with the team, Edo won six races, scored 13 podiums, and secured two pole positions to collect 422 points, and in Season 7, memorably became Formula E’s first official vice World Champion before continuing to fight for title glory in Season 8.

Maserati MSG Racing would like to sincerely thank Edo for his incredible contribution to the team over six brilliant years and wish him nothing but the very best for his future endeavours.

Edoardo Mortara: “The past six years of my career have been quite a journey, and it has been an honour to represent the team during this time. Since 2017, we have experienced a lot together, it’s been a rollercoaster at times and by learning from the tough moments we faced, we grew to become a competitive outfit, fighting for race wins and World Championships. I’m proud of the role I played in this. I want to take this opportunity to thank the team for their trust in me and their support, I wish them the best of luck for the future.”

‍‍James Rossiter, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing: “We would like to thank Edo for his efforts and success over the past six seasons. His experience, knowledge, and expertise have been pivotal in our journey and development as a team. On a personal note, it has been a privilege to work with him and we all wish him every success for the future.”

‍‍Giovanni Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse: “Maserati would like to thank Edo for his contribution and for his constant commitment to the team throughout Season 9. His resilience helped the team in achieving positive results and to contributing to the outcome of Maserati’s first season in the all-electric series; he also demonstrated his capability to recover from difficult moments. He is a successful driver and we have been delighted and honoured for him to have been a standard-bearer for the Trident all over the world. We wish him all the best for his racing career.”

Andretti Global has signed Norman Nato as a replacement of Andre Lotterer to complete its 2023/24 FIA Formula E line-up.

Andretti Global announced today that Norman Nato will join the team’s Formula E driver lineup for the upcoming milestone Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship alongside confirmed teammate and reigning World Champion Jake Dennis. Nato will pilot the No. 17 Andretti Porsche 99X Electric in his third full season of Formula E competition.

The Frenchman finished Season 9 in strong form, scoring a season-best second-place result for Nissan in Rome and consecutive point-scoring outings in the last six races of the 2022/2023 campaign. His impressive season finale fourth-place finish helped Nissan outscore their customer team NEOM McLaren in the standings while also securing a top-10 finish in the Drivers’ World Championship standings.

Throughout his 33 Formula E starts, Nato has scored one win (Berlin – Season 7), two podiums and has led 36 laps. In addition to his Formula E experience, he has competed in Formula 2 (formerly GP2), the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship among others.

Nato will take to the track for the first time with Andretti Formula E for preseason testing in Valencia October 23-27 before heading to Mexico City for the season opener in January.

MICHAEL ANDRETTI, CEO AND CHAIRMAN, ANDRETTI GLOBAL: “I’m confident of the direction that Andretti Formula E is heading as we gear up for Season 10. The addition of Norman to our roster reflects our shared mindsets for the pursuit of victory and passion for winning. Norman brings great experience and skill with him, and he caught our attention with his progress throughout the season. After Jake’s remarkable victory in the Driver’s Championship this year, the bar has been set high, and we’re hungry for more.”

Andre Lotterer has bid goodbye to formula racing along with Formula E after leaving Andretti with the focus on sportscar.

The German sportscar legend, multiple Le Mans winner and FIA World Endurance champion hailed a “life-changing” time in Formula E, rating the series as the “most challenging and fun championship” he’s raced in.

Lotterer ‘grateful and proud’ of Formula E career

“I would like to personally thank Alejandro Agag, his team and the FIA for bringing Formula E to life,” says Lotterer. “It has been a fantastic journey, and you have changed the lives of many of us.”

“Formula E was the most challenging and fun championship I have ever taken part in!” continues Lotterer. “I’m extremely grateful and proud to have driven in Formula E, to have promoted sustainable technologies and to have met the amazing people in this paddock, some of whom are now my best friends. Thank you all for the amazing support in all these years.”

Closing a decades-long chapter

“It’s time for me to close my 26 year-long chapter in formula racing,” said the 41-year old on Instagram. “I’ve decided to no longer take part in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in order to fully concentrate on my challenge with Porsche Penske Motorsport at Le Mans (for the fourth time) and in the FIA WEC.”

Andretti confirmed the news via social media, adding “we would like to thank Andre for all his efforts and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”

“It was a great ride from Formula BMW and Formula Renault to Formula 3, Champ Car, Formula Nippon, Super Formula, Formula 1 and all the way to the Formula family I joined at the start of Season 4 in 2017.

“I would like to thank the people who helped me to join this innovative and exciting championship: Leo Thomas, Julian and Alexander Jakobi, JEV and the TECHEETAH team! The experiences together were great!”

Fond memories, silverware but the win remained elusive

Lotterer started out at TECHEETAH, in the 2017 double-header in Hong Kong and celebrated a maiden podium at just his fourth race in a memorable battle with teammate Jean-Eric Vergne.

Eight podiums, two Julius Baer Pole Positions and three TAG Heuer Fastest Laps were his haul, but he never quite managed to convert the win in electric racing’s top tier. A move to the factory TAG Heuer Porsche squad on the German giants’ Formula E debut in Season 6 followed before Lotterer headed to Andretti for the first GEN3 campaign.

“A big thank you also to TAG Heuer Porsche for giving me the opportunity to lead the team on its Formula E debut in Season 6! Last but not least, I would like to thank my engineer, Fabrice Roussel, who supported me from the start and throughout has been incredibly supportive throughout the three Formula E teams, as well as the Avalanche Andretti for their confidence in Season 9.”

Andretti have yet to announce who’ll race alongside Formula E Drivers’ World Champion Jake Dennis.
